This Stopped Steve Harper Immediately Rejoining Newcastle

8:29 am, Wednesday, October 14th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

Steve Harper is available as a free agent and we know Steve can do a job for Newcastle in the absence of Tim Krul this season, although Newcastle may have wanted to move on and use their current remaining experienced goalkeepers in the squad – 24 year-old Karl Darlow and 29 year-old Rob Elliot.

Karl´s foot injury comes at a bad time after he picked it up a few weeks ago before Tim Krul´s devastating ACL knee injury that could see him out of the game for up to a year.

Steve Harper – could rejoin Newcastle in January

Newcastle already have a full 25 man Premier League squad so if we had some places available it´s very likely that Steve would have joined Newcastle again and could have even started playing for the first team – based on his form in training.

The 40 year-old has vast experience in the Premier League and at Newcastle, and we may still sign him in January when we can change the PL squad.

This is what Steve has said today:

“I’m keeping myself fit but it is irrelevant sadly as they have a 25-man squad which they can’t add to, but I’ve had a load of phone calls over the summer.”

“I played the last seven games of the season and I enjoyed last year. I kept four clean sheets in nine Premier League games, not bad for an old man.”

“But we’ll see; I’ve had a million phone calls from all sorts of agents asking me about this, that and the other. It was Denmark last week and a couple of calls more recently.”

“I’ll keep ticking over, obviously you can’t go on forever but if something does come up which ticks all the boxes then I’d certainly jump at the opportunity.”

Newcastle will be signing some outfield players in January to strengthen the squad and the goalkeeper situation will also have to be fixed.

But that depends on a number of things – how Rob Elliot plays – and whether Karl Darlow is fit again shortly and how he plays.

In the worst case Newcastle could bring in Steve Harper and in the very worst case we suppose we could also go after Victor Valdes of Manchester United – who seems desperate to play in the Premier League.

So there are two goalkeeper possibilities as a contingency plan in January depending on what happens between now and the end of the year with Elliot and Darlow.

Newcastle must start picking up points very soon and the sad awakening so far this season is that our squad doesn´t seem to be good enough for the Premier League.

Comments welcome.

I assume you live outside the UK.
Since the Summer Idman has been blocked when I try it in Spain , I can only assume it is part of that countrie’s internet policy , it may be the same where you are.
The match on Sunday is on

Steve Harper would have been a good man to have aboard at this time, not only for his goalkeeping ability, but for his long history of involvement ay SJP and what he could contribute to team unity and spirit on the pitch and in the dressing room.

I have looked all over the Spanish and Argentinian web.

There are lots of articles dated 9 Oct saying saying how delighted he is to be playing for Depor however nothing about legal action.

It is hard to see on what grounds he could sue the club.

Feels like a bit of mischief making to me.

Probably by Kid Jensen and his crew.

By the way Solano – Keegan sued the club for £9 million.

He was offered £2.6million out of court and ended up with £1.8 million after judgement.
    Whoops

Beats me how we get so many keeper injuries when they are only in action for 5% of the game.

We need more than a goalkeeper, we need divine intervention
