Steve McClaren has said in his press conference today that Newcastle will review their goalkeeping position in January and if necessary will bring in another goalkeeper at that time.
It will depend on how Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow perform before then, but the loss of Tim could be huge for Newcastle as McClaren has said today he gets Newcastle 18 to 20 points a season.
Rob Elliot – in goal against Norwich City
It seems like Steve McClaren is still recovering from the shock of losing his number one goalkeeper last Saturday night when Tim was in goal for the Netherlands in Kazakhstan.
This is some of what Steve has said in his press conference today:
“Tim was vital, very important. He will get us 18 to 20 points a season. To lose that is devastating. I think the shock of getting injured is starting to show.”
“We wish him well and we will look after him.” “In the mean time it is for Rob to fill his boots and step up and perform.” “We could have sent Karl away on loan but we like him and kept him here.”
“I certainly think by January we will know but that’s something we were planning behind-the-scenes anyway. January is now an important window”.
“There’s a lot of work in the background. In one respect, we’re working towards that, but we need to win football matches in the meantime.”
The other news is that McClaren has no intention of recalling 18 year-old Adam Armstrong from his loan spell at Coventry City and that’s understandable.
Much better for Adam to have a full season out on loan and score those goals in League One and build his confidence up.
Then he can return in pre-season next July and challenge for a first team place and hopefully we will still be in the Premier League at that time.
We do expect Newcastle to bring in another striker in January to bolster our goalscoring capabilities and with only six goals scored in eight league games we need more players who can score goals for us.

Comment #82…and when we get to putting the floor in our new ReBuilding, it’s time we got the planks in. And we’ve done a great job I think everyone will agree! By Jan Jan sure what will have all the fresh planks nailed on.

Comment #84I’ve had a flick through our next batch of fixtures and reckon we could pull at least 2 draws out the bag.
Norwich draw, Scumderland defeat, Stoke scrappy draw, Bournemouth will ravage us, Leicester will ravage us and Palace will ravage us.
That selection of 3 fixtures – Bournemouth, Leicester and palace are the most ball-achey because them 3 teams have everything we cant deal with – pace and balls man

Comment #85Wonder if Marveaux will get back in the match day squads or not, he’s one of a few that can create chances for Ayoze and Mitrovic.

Comment #91Marv needs to take a leaf out Obertans book. Both are apparently lacking, in almost opposite ways, but you’d think Marv could actually make changes and be a part of it. i.e.at least run about a bit when the opposition has the ball. It’s the EPL pal, you’ve got no hope if you won’t do it.

Comment #93We should remember that we still have the ace that is Steve Black up our sleeves.
QPR were bottom of the league with four points after eight games last year.
And they’re not now.

Comment #95Our toon u and others misunderstand my opinion on pardew. I think he is a middling manager but was vilified unfairly here. Remember, many were saying palace were going down last season when he went there. They were all wrong and look like fools to the media that geordies always fawn after. Yes we look like muppets now. I dont want him back and dont want to see palace do well believe it or not. As for his management of zaha…last time i saw him he was tearing some left back apart. Seemed to be doing fine under your old mate. As for steve,, i think we have a bluffer.

Comment #96A big issue re smc and pardew is carrs dominance in the club and of course ashleys approach to buying young. I have a feeling this is going to change because ashley will have little choice. Smc might have a chance if he brings in his own players and dumps the softies we have.but he does seem like a bluffer to me…

I think McClaren may well bend under the pressure more than Pardew. He already looks and sounds a bit ragged.
Pardew had a steely self-regard that makes McClaren look soft.
Alan was always uppermost in his own mind.

It matters how the team trains. You can’t use your first eight games as your pre-season, as a grinning Makro, the man who doesnt look at the league table, seems to believe.
But, if they’re not even training, or playing games, what chance? Players who should’ve been flogged got the opportunities for match fitness while the man who didn’t turn up got the captaincy.
Yet, swallowing all the “great coach” hype, the sky blue optimists were praising Makro for having the lads working with the ball as opposed to doing the hard slog. It’s modern. It’s progressive. No it’s not. It’s bollocks. And to date it’s proved to be nothing but a shambles.
And still the same discerning fans would have us believe we are seeing a new and refreshing Makro brand of football and before long it will all come together. All the signs are there that the football is improving, and it’s no surprise that duffers like Blackley can’t see it.
It’s just a pity we’ve lost our top goalkeeper, the heir to Shilton and Schmeichel? Hahaha. You couldn’t make it up.

Comment #103Carr likes to boast that he does his homework on the players he brings in. He never scored higher than a D minus for his homework but he doesn’t tell you that.
