Is This Newcastle´s Best Team Against Norwich?

8:22 am, Saturday, October 17th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

We now have a decent idea of Newcastle´s injury situation and after only two months of the season it´s already pretty bad and the worst one (again) in the Premier League.

For the home game tomorrow against Norwich we have Krul, Taylor, Mbabu, Aarons, Obertan, Darlow, Riviere, Good and Marveaux not available.

Janmaat, Colback, Cisse, Tiote, Haidara and Dummett are available so we are at least covered at the left back spot.

cheick tiote

Cheick Tiote – could start tomorrow

It´s going to be a difficult team choice for Steve McClaren after the last game – a very good performance in the first half at Manchester City followed by a complete collapse in the first 20 minutes of the second half when we conceded five goals.

Rob Elliot will be in goal and Freddie Woodman will be on the bench after Tim´s terrible season-ending injury a week ago playing for the Netherlands at Kazakhstan.

Here´s the team Steve McClaren could put out tomorrow in a game we really have to win given our current plight at the bottom of the league table.

We expect the team to play in a 4-4-2 formation.

Elliot
Janmaat Coloccini (c) Mbemba Haidara
Wijnaldum Tiote Colback Sissoko
Mitrovic Perez
Subs: Woodman Dummett Lascelles Anita de Jong Thauvin Cisse

What would your team be for tomorrow?

We have Haidara starting at left back and Dummett on the bench  simply because Sadio has played some games this season and Paul  is short of match practice.

We also have Tiote in for Anita to see if the experienced Ivorian can add some bite and consistency to central midfield.

On paper that looks like a strong side and the bench isn´t bad either, but we have a strange team at Newcastle at the moment and they can be very good one minute and then hopeless the next.

Consistency is what we lack and we are looking for the good side to turn up for the whole game tomorrow.

If that happens we could even get our first win of the season and only our second win in the last 20 games.

Here´s hoping.

    You never learn ED!
Definition of madness = doing the same thing over and over expecting different results
As long as Colocinni plays we will not win!
    The best lineup is

    Janmmat Mbemba. dummett..Haidiara
    ,,,,,,,,,,,ABC……ABC….ABC
    ……….ABC……..ABC…ABC

ABC = Any one but Colo

Tiote has done nothing to warrant a starting place or convince anyone he has got his head back on the job…yet. Bench and prove yourself first, in my opinion.
Mind you that doesn’t count for much in this squad. The example of Colo springs to mind.

    toonbrother
I tend to agree with you regarding Colo, but I don’t think you can throw Dummet straight in after such a long layoff. We will have to play with Colo tomorrow.

At home to Norwich we need to stretch their defence, put it under pressure and prevent counter attacks.
    Thauvin———-Mitro———–Perez
    Colback——–Sissoko———–Gini
    Haidara—Collo—Mbemba–Janmaat

last season under P45 from august 1st 2014 to 16 october 2014 we played 7 matches, we had 4 points scored 7 conceded 14 and we were 3rd bottom but only on goal difference, all 3 teams had 4 points.

from 16th oct to dec31 2014 we took 22 points ad were 5th best in that period , moving to 10th overall for the season so far.

shteve has time to turn it around and then push on, something P45 could never do, it was ground hog day with him

Read some rubbish on here Ed but suggesting Tiote and Haidara are part of the build up of our best available starting 11?

    ‘Kin hell man

    Jimmy,
Good value or not, the club openly said that those weren’t planned transfers for that window, and they were done then because of the threat of relegation. Just because you don’t pay over the odds, doesn’t mean it isn’t done out of panic.

  • 8 Lindisfarne // Oct 17, 2015 at 8:46 AM

If Schteve sticks with his principles we will see
    4231.
    Mitro
    Gini—Perez—Sissoko
    Colback—Anita
    ….you get the picture.

lilo – definitely panic when the five were bought – club later said some of them were not planned to be bought then, but ” brought forward” from the summer – that is panic buying.

    Bad week for us though

Krul ruled out for the season, granted mostly bad news due to lack of any real quality in the squad as Krul has also been utter pish for a good couple of seasons

Jonas Guti has decided enough and has taken steps to start legal action against the club over their treatment of him during his cancer treatment and subsequent rehab – good on him, they were happy to coin in on the publicity of his miraculous return

Colo – finally our captain speaks, unfortunately it’s to suggest that the club he “loves” made him choose his responsibilities as captain over his kids, which essentially confirms everything we ever knew or suspected about our captain, he’s a spineless gutless characterless yes man
Sadly Redknapp’s assessment of this bloke is spot on

SMC has given a number of interviews each more confusing and contradictory than the last, a mix of embarrassing ramblings, p1ss poor excuses, rehashing of expectations and even moving the goalposts on his own judgement period
All this whilst suggesting the players left aren’t good enough to keep us up
Well done Schteve keep up the good work

And to top it all off poor Kath has had enough and jacked it all in, who will we blame now!

  • 11 jimmysmith // Oct 17, 2015 at 8:59 AM

I don’t think those 5 were considered to have been bought in any sort of a panic, rather it was considered to be swift, timely and very good business. Although time has shown it to be not as good as it first appeared, but still pretty good.

I think they’d had them in the pipeline and when the time came, albeit perhaps prematurely from their perspective, they didn’t mess about.

They will likely want to buy in January, but I’d be surprised if they bought in a panic, or buy players that don’t fit the profile, or pay out desperate money, and I wouldn’t be reassured at all if they did.

  • 12 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 17, 2015 at 9:00 AM

    Really Schteve it’s simple mate

Lose the next 2 and fans will be judging you know, not at the end of May…
We can spin it, we can blame in factors you feel have gone against you, we can blame it on any number of circumstances

    But don’t
    Stop talking sh1t
    Start winning games
Let the fans judge by what the see on the pitch, at this moment in time what we are seeing is embarrassing

    Why not try some wingbacks…

    Jimmy,
Got to head out, but I really can’t agree. They weren’t planned for then, and 2 of them cost more than the club had wanted to pay for them. It was brought forward out of panic because of the threat of relegation.

I don’t want us to go out and pay daft money for players. I’ve never wanted a City, or Chelsea type owner at the club, and still don’t.

This Jan isn’t likely to be panic buys, as they have said they are planning to spend and looking at players. Traditionally it is difficult to get bargains in Jan – unless contract is coming to an end and the current club has little to play for. It is one of the three windows that the club talked of, and if their targets are young, talented players then they will have to overpay on fees or wages to get them to come here if we are in the relegation battle even McClaren is now anticipating at that stage.

  • 15 davy // Oct 17, 2015 at 9:29 AM

i know it was only Northampton but Janmaat and Thauvin looked like they could play together and as I’ve had it with Sissoko that would be my right side of the team.
I’ve also had it with Cisse but because we have no options I wouldd playy him up front with Mitro and play Perez left midfield where he can graft all day.

4 4 2 with the midfield being Colback deep, Thauvin and Perez wide and Gino box to box with Mitro and Cisse up front.
    Attack, attack, attack!!!!!

At least tiote is a battler and gets stuck in holahan is their best player is needed keep him under wraps colo should have been ran out a the club summer Steve must be having long conversations with himself over that could be a deal breaker or job losing decision that. Both jannmat and haidara offer no protection to the cbs mbabu and summer would be my wing back move janmatt rb

  • 17 The next Mike Williamson // Oct 17, 2015 at 9:34 AM

At least people won’t walk past tiote like they do Anita. despite all the whingeing about injuries that’s a full strength team minus krul and possibly Dummett. yet I’m sure if we lose it will be down to injuries to fringe players

  • 18 The next Mike Williamson // Oct 17, 2015 at 9:40 AM

The Norwich team is similar to the one that went down and that was struggling in championship. difference is they appointed a young manager on the up and he’s transformed what looked like poor players into decent ones. We’ve got an old manager who was making his way down the ladder after getting lucky with a few big jobs.

when u look at mcclarens jobs he’s always been given tonnes of money apart from at forest. and Twente is his only success.

    Stop talking nonsense, Ed!!!!
Tioté will never ever start for NUFC again!!! 🙂
