A 6-2 win is great, but it masked deficiencies in our play.

Far better from Sissoko today, although far from a complete performance. Interesting to see Norwich visibly target the flank he was on. Wonderful ball in for Wijnaldum’s second, and also for Mitro’s goal. Happy days. If he can do it regularly and do better off the ball then everyone wins!

A good way to prepare for the derby, but far from a polished performance, and one that would likely see us lose more than win.

    Sutty,
I’d say Tiote should start every week as long as he can get back to the player he has been for us. He wasn’t outstanding today, but he was solid enough and kept it simple. He needs outlets he trusts, and today (partly because Norwich are abysmal off the ball) he had them.

more worrying is people not commenting on a goal but then commenting on a poor bit of play happened quite a bit today strange for me!

The Mitrovic/Perez partnership looked wicked today. Mitrovic winning everything in the air and Perez using his craft in the space created. They constantly look ready to pounce – that is the area of the pitch we have the least worries.

I cannot remember the last time we had two strikers that were compatible.

I agree that we need to be much more solid defensively. However I think we went from being the better side in 20/30% of the game previous weeks to dominating a good 80% of this game.

I was impressed we continued to attack through the match, not sit on narrow leads, much better.

From a coaching point of view (you’re the experienced head there) there is a lot to analyse, from a fan’s point of view it was terrific and just what was needed.

I’ve been in Ghana all week at Right to Dream (they beat our youths 3 times over the summer) and there head coach is a guy who knows Cathro well. He was saying that there were some ‘complications’ between Simpson, McClaren and Cathro that saw Cathro’s role diminish after the first 2 games. Apparently they were resolved before the City match.

He wouldn’t go into detail sadly, so not sure where the issue was. Hopefully the resolving of issues is a catalyst for us improving.

When we see how poor sunderland’s defence is i could see us go on to beat them, our trouble is going to come up against the more solid defences. We’ll not have as many chances to score such easy goals leaving us more vunerable to a loss because we must have one of the worst defensive line ups in this league

That was a huge monkey off of our backs no matter how it came about, if we can take that in to the next game then a few easier games it could make the Lpool and Palace games very tasty indeed.

    Delighted with the result
It confirms what I thought about our superb offence
    But the defensive problems remain
We cant score 3 goals every game let alone 6
    But thats for another day
    Congrats to the lads today
Its a relief to finally get three points

Haidara in at LB with Dummett moving to CB in place of Colo would give us a better defence up to the January window when we’re going to have to buy a RB and a decent CB.
Forget Austin. Mitro’s the boy !

    Sage,
Yeah, we were far better for longer today. Although we were also unconvincing at times and Norwich had opportunities that better sides would punish. They dominated the early part of the second half, but couldn’t capitalise. Still, I appreciate that most just want to enjoy the result for now, so won’t be too critical!

    Toonking,
Defensively we were poor at times, but it was mainly in the wide areas. Nobody played particularly badly, just lapses in concentration. Again, details but often the occasional result papers over cracks.

    Rotonda,
Good day mate. My U11’s beat an Under 12 side 3-2 and my Under 12’s beat an Under 14 side 7-0. Then the Newcastle result, happy days. You often talked of the good moments in Pardew’s reign as papering over cracks (as did I), I’m just providing the same balanced (isn) perspective as I always would.

We won’t be getting Austin. He is injured at the moment and he would not start ahead of Perez or Mitrovic. I don’t think he would be content to be a bench player.

It might sound weird saying this but i think our hardest game between now and liverpool will be leister!

That game may need us to get as many as 4 goals in the first 60 min because looking at how well they’ve been in the final 30 minutes a sloppy defence like that of us will have a very tough time in the final minutes

On another day we could have lost that 6-2, Norwich will probably feel hard done by that they lost, more possession, more shots, well tough shit, we won!

Siisoko thanks for coming back we really missed u the ignition of our attacks. Mitro / Perez that wat I call a partnership. Wijanaldum did we really pay 14.5m for that guy we really good that was a steal.

I always believed in Mcca. he will get us playing. The defence will take away all my nails. CB was a miss. but lets wait till January. I think its Matip coming.

Thauvin was the only miss. its like Carr had a thing with his mum. Guy jst wld nt give up.

    Will Die,
I personally hope it isn’t Matip coming. He is a future defensive midfielder, but a shockingly inconsistent and erratic central defender.

LG, I definitely thought Tiote offered something that Colback and Anita cant.
Centre midfield and centre defence are the two areas to target in Jan without doubt.

Some of that footy today took me back to Keegan 90’s days. Fair play it was only Norwich but the boys done good and need to carry that through to derby day.

I’m certainly not going to do what I’ve done in the past and get confident that we will win because it always kicks me in the plums. Play the derby by ear and see how it goes eh.

    Sutty,
If Tiote can get back to his past form, then an upgrade on Colback would be good. Defence has to be the priority, and a wide player/forward who will work hard and weigh in with goals/assists. It has to be the right player though, we need experience and leadership qualities, codetermined characters, and fighters.

The two goals that we conceded were the fault of wiji n Sissoko not tracking back, but in essence everything else they did was top drawer, we looked brutal going forward, Tiote looks cattled to be fair, his legs look shot, our cental midfield pairing of colback n Anita are still for me to weak? They do put a shift in but all the creative stuff comes from other areas, holding maybe but now and again attack the space in front of you. Great effort today all around.

I’m not sure what from the game can be attributed to good coaching. We dont really have a style you can hang your hat on. We dont play possession or tippy tappy or hoofball or counter attack. How would you sum it up? It’s just kind of end to end, make it up as you go football, which I’m not sure how or why you would specifically coach. Is it just more like “get our there and win by whatever means possible”?
Reminds me more os Hughtons Toon team.
