Tiote, Colback And Dummett Start For Newcastle

nufc emblemNorwich City .svg

Steve McClaren has just announced his team for the vital game this afternoon against Norwich City and the head coach has recalled Paul Dummett, Jack Colback and Cheick Tiote.

We had a feeling that Cheick would get a recall in one of the central midfield positions and Dummett is preferred to Sadio Haidara for his first appearance of the season for Newcastle after recovering from a hamstring problem which was a carryover from last season.

Teams:

Newcastle (4-4-2): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback, Georginio Wijnaldum; Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Massadio Haidara, Jamaal Lascelles, Vurnon Anita, Siem de Jong, Florian Thauvin, Papiss Cisse

Norwich (4-4-1-1): John Ruddy; Steven Whittaker, Russell Martin (c), Sebastien Bassong, Martin Olsson; Natahn Redmond, Alexander Tettey, Graham Dorrans, Robbie Brady; Jonny Howson; Dieumerci Mbokani
Substitutes: Declan Rudd, Andre Wisdom, Ryan Bennett, Gary O’Neil, Wes Hoolahan, Matt Jarvis, Cameron Jerome

Referee: Anthony Taylor (Greater Manchester)

Rob Elliot comes in for the injured Tim Krul and Freddie Woodman is on the bench and Vurnon Anita gives way to Tiote.

Newcastle will play in a 4-4-2 formation with Mitrovic and Perez up front and Cheick Tiote and Jack Colback in central midfield.

The bench is strong with Woodman, Haidara, Lascelles, Anita, de Jong, Thauvin and Papiss Cisse.

This is what head coach Steve McClaren has said about today’s game:

“We’re at home against Norwich, but it doesn’t matter who the opponent is this weekend – we have to perform.” “Norwich have been very good. It’s not surprising because they’ve got the confidence of promotion and have added very well.”

“They’re proving they can be a real handful and probably deserve to have picked up a few more points than they have done thus far.”  “It’s about winning but it’s also about performance.”

“I’m not looking at the table just yet but I am looking at the performance and we’ve got to give one on Sunday.”

“We owe that to the crowd – we’ve got to fight and show the same level of support and effort against Norwich, as we saw against Chelsea.”

“Now is the time for our players to focus on doing their job, performing for 90 minutes and giving the fans what they want – do that and we will win games.”

More than one in two fans expect us to win this game today.

if dummet is good enough to start at left back he’s good enough to start at LCB
    Mclaren has bottled it !

2 holding midfielders at home vs Norwich……..

Creative football at its finest then

Fully expect the defence to struggle with the bombardment of free kicks gifted to the opposition through the pairing of two of the clumsiest tw@’s to ever grace our midfield

Jib Jibberish – are you commenting on the match today in your guise as Jib or Jane. If the later – do you go the whole hog and get dressed up as a woman – you know frillies, high heels and a splash of make-up.
I have a vision of you stumbling and tripping up with your high heels on (a la Dick Emery).

I can’t understand the thinking of Tiote starting, when did he last play?
When did he last have a decent game?

Hope he proves me wrong but IMO it’s a bad move.

Not sure wat to think……my footie predictor is goin well and I have us down for a win, a clean sheet and mitrovic to score – go big or go home ha ha
Telford Utd won (that never happens unless the Toon win lol)
My family r all ill but I am fine (good sign or is the illness saving the best for last?)

I will go for a Toon win of 3 nil

    Poor nufc
Imagine spunk1ng £10m + Cabella on a winger not good enough to start at home Vs Norwich ahead of players played out of position

    Great stuff Carr

SdJ and Thauvin coming on , on the hour , I hope.

From memory he last played properly around New Years, so 10 months ago…..
Can’t understand dropping Anita for him, had to be Colback, regardless of what anyone thinks of Anita there’s no denying playing 2 players who are identical in every way is utterly f**king pointless

JC CT – Can only pass sideways……if they can’t tackle it then there useless
Such a negative midfield, and once again with Gini wasted out wide, and Sissoko wasting a spot, where’s the service for the forwards come from?

My worry is with Tiote, he gives away a lot of free kicks around our 18 yard box.

Heart says we should win today, but the head thinks we will grind out a dull draw.

I can see this formation with the payers selected being an absolute mistake.

No pace on the left. Dummet can do lb if he has a winger with enough pace to support him.

Gini and sissoko are not wingers. We can get away with playing one on then img but not both.

Getting a result here will solely rely on janmaat. If Norwich realise that they will very easily be able to kill any threat.

    Tads

    Looks like desperation to me.
Mclaren doesn’t want to lose with the Derby coming up, Tiote isn’t the answer.

I said last week I’d be interested to see Mclarens selection today, am I allowed to say he hasn’t a clue yet?

Square pegs round holes and we’re making things hard for oureselves from the start. We played more attacking teams against Cheksea Citeh and Man U!

I suppose it’s a good idea to go a bit defencive against the attacking might of Norwich as the other 3 teams are shite.
