It’s the stat we’ve been looking for and on the Newcastle web-site today they say it’s 21 years since a Newcastle player has had three assists in a game.
Moussa Sissoko had three assists on Sunday – and by the way they were all great ones – and that helped Newcastle to a terrific win and the performance wasn’t too bad – but our defense still looks poor and Norwich twice hit the bar – but we got some breaks when it mattered.
Moussa Sissoko – after making first goal for Gini Wijnaldum
It was over five years since Newcastle last hit six goals and that was our first home game back from the Championship in August 2010 when Chris Hughton’s team beat Aston Villa 6-0.
The 26 year-old French International midfielder made his 100th appearance for Newcastle against Norwich and he hasn’t had the best of times at Newcastle so far this season – but that’s not unlike a lot of our players.
But Moussa produced the goods on Sunday to fire Newcastle to our first win of the season and only our second league win in the last twenty league games played.
This is what Sissoko has said on the Newcastle web-site today:
“I’m happy with it.” “The most important thing is that the team gets the three points but if I can help with that, by scoring or making assists, then I am happy.”
“I had the chance to give a lot of assists against Norwich so I am pleased. But it was just my job – I was doing my job for the team.”
“We are all happy with the result because the start of the season was hard for everyone.”
“We had some good performances but the results were not good. But against Norwich, everyone was ready, focussed and we got the three points.”
“We showed some good things right from the beginning until the end, and we needed to take the three points.”
“I’m happy for Gini,” “He works so hard in training and is a fantastic player for us.” (he’s right there). “I hope he can continue in this and keep scoring goals for us because he is a big player.”
And it’s pretty obvious why the lads played so well against Norwich City – they wore their new club suits to the game – and they are dark charcoal grey with the Newcastle badge integrated into the material on the left breast of the jacket – they look excellent.
We need another display from the lads at the Stadium of Light on Sunday – and we have lost the last five games against the Black Cats and haven’t beaten them for over four years.
Now is as good a time as ever to beat Sunderland on Sunday.
Howay The Lads!!
