We have to admit to liking Rob Elliot because he seems such a good team players and he’s exactly what you want as a backup goalkeeper in that when he does play for us he comes in ready and does hist very best.

Rob is a good goalkeeper and he will improve with the more games he plays for Newcastle.

Rob Elliot – Newcastle goalkeeper

Elliot a good professional and a good example to the rest of the Newcastle playing staff of showing loyally at Newcastle even though you are not a regular starter.

Here’s what Rob has said in the local press today:

“McClaren just said: ‘Go out there and enjoy it. Do what you do.’ Which was nice,” “He said he had no worries with me at all – no talks, no nothing, just go out and play.”

“I’ve been quite lucky since I’ve been here that I’ve always been out of the team for a while, then played for a while, then been out of the team, maybe not for 10 months.”

“But he was excellent with me so I’m just pleased to repay his faith.” “Hopefully I can carry on doing that.”  “Then I was injured so I started as No 3, which is no secret, but the manager’s been absolutely fantastic with me.”

“He’s just encouraged me to be myself and play how I play. Like he said he had no issue with chucking me in and it’s been good.”

Do you think Rob likes Steve McClaren?

The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international had not started a game since back in December of last year at home to Chelsea – when his right thigh eventually gave way – and young Jak Alnwick had to come in for the second half – but we still won 2-1.

Let’s hope we can get our second win on the trot at Sunderland on Sunday.

I posted last night without much response saying although I’m biased I prefer our squad to the makem’s which made me think would I take any of their players? I think I would only take 2: Lens and Defoe what do others think?

Lens would be a definite, defoe maybe but I’d take O’Shea for sure. In my opinion he’s their best player, would have definitely been relegated by now without him. Johnson or Toivenen as a squad player if I had to pick anyone else
