Shearer’s Twitter Reaction To Sixth Derby Defeat In A Row

4:28 pm, Sunday, October 25th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 64 Comments

Alan Shearer has reacted on his Twitter account to Newcastle’s sixth defeat in a row to Sunderland –  this time 3-0 – and Alan is right – although we had plenty of possession we had not cutting edge today up front. That’s now 13 goals conceded in the last three games.

And the reasons (sometimes known as excuses) keep mounting up as to why  Newcastle have now lost six games in the first 10 league games and have conceded a massive 22 goals – which is the same as Bournemouth who were hammered 5-1 at home today  to Spurs.

We have 6 points – one win and three draws – and are now second bottom of the table above only Aston Villa – whose manager Tim Sherwood was fired this morning.

alan shearer recent

Alan Shearer – penalty yes – red card no

Just like last week was two steps forward – this week was three steps back.

We should be two steps forward again next Saturday night after we have played Stoke City at home.

We hope we will be two steps forward again next Saturday night after we have played Stoke City at home.

Comments welcome.

I am not sure here people get the fact that we are going to be fine?

Where is the fine coming from. You kind of make your own luck, its pointless playing well when the entire back 4 sabotage the game game in and out.

Every collapse was to the back 4 and the mid 2’s not tracking back.
We are not safe at any point until we are safe.

And has this what it has come down to? Being safe???

    Count me out

    Ashley out!

Shearer has beaten me to it. Just about to say that we were poor with delivery of final balls and finishing. The game should’ve been out of sight.

  • 6 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:33 PM

Terrible mistake from Colo but with 11 men there was only going to be one winner, shame a red card ruins us again.

As for the denying a clear goal scoring opportunity, that rule needs to be reviewed. I’m not 100% sure it’s a clear opportunity as I think either Elliot gets there first or quick enough to totally another it.

Also he foul gave them a penalty, which in fact gives them a clear goal scoring opportunity. I think that rule has to change.

Can see why the red gave the red though, very tight margin so can’t really complain, Colo should have handled the situation much better and not given the red the opportunity to make a decision.

We were also wasteful with our chances and really that makes the defeat a deserved one. Got to be clinical, especially with 10 men.

  • 7 JamesToon // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:34 PM

I disagree. 1st goal was purely colo’s fault. 2nd goal was poor defending from a set piece. 3rd goal was Court on the counter due to having a go to get back in the game with only 10 men

  • 8 welshgeordie9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:34 PM

Argentina have already got a player in the sin bin.

    Ha ha ha

  • 9 toonking // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:37 PM

you are right mate we seem to be playing much better football now than we had been during pardews later spells as manager but all it needs is a mitrovic, mbemba and wij injury and we’ll see it back to square one with a willo colo CB pairing, a goufran or obatan wide man and a cisse perez front men

  • 10 Jib // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:38 PM

Wijnaldum is awesome , when we get some more players in January , and the team gets it’s shit totally together , what a team we’ll have !!!
Poor Mackems , we even had more possession with 10 men , they are doomed .

  • 11 welshgeordie9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:39 PM

At the end of the day the mackems were lucky, out of the last couple of the games against them today was the best, we showed more guts today than the other matches put together, we turned up today unlike other matches, just we didn’t score, the score dosent reflect the match.

  • 12 welshgeordie9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:41 PM

I think the only player that didn’t play well apart from colo is colback, the rest were pretty good.

  • 13 Jib // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:41 PM

This semi is all about who has the chance to be slaughtered by the All-Blacks next week.

  • 14 welshgeordie9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:43 PM

It looks like it’s going to be the Aussies vs the all blacks, even though it should be Scotland playing tonight.

  • 16 toonking // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:48 PM

Whilst entertaining and attacking football might be good to watch it’s not going to guarentee us those results. Not every game will have a team with as shambolic a defence as that of norwich but what every game will have is a shambolic defence like that of newcastle and whilst our attacking players might look strong today showed us they not as certain to get them scored as that of a top team.

If it’s entertaining football we want the best route for ourselves is dropping down into the championship where our team will be a higher than average team but in the premier league we’re just too vunerable at the back to consistantly push men too far forward.

  • 17 Tsunki // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:49 PM

Go talk about rugby on a rugby blog. What a pair.

  • 18 Blackstarbullet // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:49 PM

13 goals in 3 games is definitely relegation form. For me the only good thing to come out of the match is that Colo will now be missing from our defence which can only be a plus.
His pace has gone and to be outpaced by Fletcher says it all. Who will be Mbemba’s new partner, Dummett, Lescalles, Williamson or Taylor? None fill me with confidence but must be worth giving Lescalles his chance, can’t be any worse than what we have now.

  • 19 Tsunki // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:51 PM

Lesson from today – build a proper back four with two highly competitive subs. And replace Tiote, Colback and Anita with a good defensive mid pair and a proper engine that wants the ball forward.

  • 20 Mister Tuff // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:51 PM

Whilst opinions drives football debate I think one ore two on here today have revealed their football credentials are lacking in respect of the penalty analysis.
Clearly an unfair barge – not charge – by ol’ permed hair. Nothing at all the matter with a 50/50 shoulder charge -but it wasn’t that at all.
So I would say yes penalty but not a red card -yellow -yes.

How long are we going to say well that was a decent 45 minutes, that was a decent 70 minutes, we played better football. Lads n lasses in case you forgot the object of the exercise is to get some points in the bag – not being appreciative of what might have been.

The penalty analysis on MOT2 tonight will be very interesting.

  • 25 Smileytoon // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:57 PM

Having a hard time wrapping my head around Mitovic. Doesn’t appear to read the game and more concerning, he just seems lazy. Perez and Wijnaldum never stopped hustling.

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 4:59 PM

What’s Klopp doing right that Rodgers didn’t I mean they might as well have kept Rodgers, then again rushing in to things, a bit like us some might say.

  • 29 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:06 PM

I’ve definitely seen positives recently with us getting more bodies forward to give options. We need a top draw leader at the back to organise that defence and probably an inform Tiote or a new holding player.

Colo only missed one game which is a shame

  • 30 daffy // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:14 PM

    Jib @ 10
    Are you simple ?
    You’ve lost again 3-0 , six in a row
    Embarrassed for you

  • 31 dpatte4r43 // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:17 PM

Very disappointed today, yes a penalty because of colo, but certainly not a red card, then colbach gets a yellow for arguing his case with the ref, who was appalling, meanwhile That filthy B****** Cattermole runs around fouling everyone without so much as chat with the ref, I counted three yellow card offences. Perhaps the ref can sit at home tonight wearing his scumberland shirt, disgraceful.

  • 32 Jail for Ashley // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:17 PM

We played you off the park until the ref spoilt it, and we still had more possession than you, the way you played today it should be you that’s embarrassed!

  • 33 daffy // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:22 PM

First half you dominated – no doubt , Defoe coming on & the pen changed the game
Cant say for certain if it was a pen – Shearer thinks so

  • 34 Jail for Ashley // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:26 PM

I think it was a pen as he blatantly shoved him out of the way but it was never a sending off

  • 35 bettyswallocks // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:27 PM

Just watching Liverpool. We really missed out out on Van Dijk. Very solid , reds the game well and class on the ball.

Thought we controlled the first half today and would have gone on to win without the sending off.

  • 36 AncientC // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:35 PM

It has to be a red card if it was a penalty, Colo was the last man.

  • 37 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:36 PM

not a clear scoring chance and not a penalty the first offence was clattermole

  • 38 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:37 PM

    fcuking robbed

  • 39 stuart no9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:39 PM

yes we can blame the back 4 for the loss , but our final ball in the box was again dire. That performance today was a mile better than what ive seen all season. the football i thought neat , our movement was exceptional
we found our men, but that final ball just wasnt there. Robbed ?? yeah i think we were , never a sending off and with 11 men on the pitch there was only one winner. The way i look at it is , if we keep playing football the way we did today we will be fine , yes we need to strengthen in the new year but i enjoyed our attacking play today . lets face it , we were still the better team with 10 men . lets not be too harsh on the lads today , its coming but we have to work defensively , we all knowe that but its getting there while sunderland will go down . for sure .

  • 40 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:39 PM

It’s about denying a goal scoring opportunity, nothing to do with theast man. Depends if the ref see Elliot getting their first.

I think elliot might have been getting their ok, but can totally see why the ref sent him off as could argue fletcher might have got a toe to it first

  • 41 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:40 PM

a toe would not have beaten him

  • 42 Mister Tuff // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:40 PM

Well here we go Wally -with over a quarter of games played we are second bottom with six points. Whilst Mr Tubbs is the main culprit in the demise of NUFC you are his agent and therefore represent him.
A points haul of 6 is shocking – roughly extrapolating the games/points further we could get around 24 points at the season end – this is relegation form.
You have failed the ten game test – set by yourself. As well as being complicit is whatever dark deeds were at play in extending ol’ permed hairs’ contract.
You, I’m afraid are yesterdays man.

  • 43 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:41 PM

but a hand then a deliberate pull back should have been punished

  • 44 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:42 PM

A few bad balls but we still had a few good chances to score, we just wastes them. Brought about our own downfall

  • 45 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:42 PM

    judged and found guilty

  • 46 SUTTY1978 // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:43 PM

I see Jib’s two favourites put on some show today, Colo being sent off and Thauvin being his usual useless self.
That’s the negatives out of the way. We should have blown them away in the first half but if you don’t score when you’re on top you usually live to regret it.
Ref bottled it all game and was definitely a home banker.
Thought some of the play was excellent. Sissoko had a very good game again although some of his crossing was wayward. Mitro battled all game, unlucky not to score a couple. Perez was quiet, couple of good touches and moves but not as influential as recently.
Where does McClaren go from here, the managers round about us have been sacked for having the same results as us.
I’ve changed my mind from a couple of weeks ago, I’m prepared to give him more time, not sure how long yet but performances in the last four games haven’t been relegation standard even if results have.
Some serious work to do for Carr in January, two words for him, Power, Pace.

  • 47 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:44 PM

Well regardless if you see it bad luck, bad referring or bad defending the result is gutting….and imo once again self inflicted

Elliot had it covered, Colo is experienced enough to know if you make contact as the last man you give the ref a decision to make, it was a ridiculous mistake that once again cost us dearly

Ill discipline also cost us in regards to the fact the move could of never made it the box if Tiote hadn’t picked up his standard yellow card rendering him useless in protecting the back four
During the break he had a chance to make the tackle, he didn’t in fact he pulled out of the challenge….
Our two most senior players once again in this fixture cost us the game and personally would be more than happy if neither pulled on the black and white stripes again

  • 48 Shadow_Shearer // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:45 PM

If colo challenge is not considered a shoulder barge, then either should catermoles challenge on wijnaldum 60 seconds before the penalty was awared

  • 49 Laurent Robert 32 // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:45 PM

Stuart, I agree. I’d also say that some of the shots weren’t clean strikes – powder puff. In the long run, it bodes well, with our general attacking play. Mitro is integral to that, though.

Never did we play those type of pre-planned link ups in the last few years. Off the cuff, yes, the odd time as it’s bound to occur, but there seems to be a lot more thought into the coaching, which is good to see. Nice that the possession was 70% in the first half away from home.

Short-term of the game – not great. Development – much improved.

  • 50 Munster Mag // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:45 PM

As i said earlier, peno all day. Red card probably debateable. Colo brought it all on himself. Was mbemba at fault in some way too? Again wtf did old man carr see in thauvin. He looks third rate.

  • 51 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:46 PM

i would give him till February but by then it will have been adios pl and the money

  • 52 Laurent Robert 32 // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:48 PM

Ironically, their MOM was a much linked player with us in months gone by.

  • 53 toonarmydownsouth // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:49 PM

    As for the positives…

We’ve got a slightly improved style of play….that’s about it
We’re certainly not fine, were planted in the bottom 3

To rub salt in the wounds it seems Villa could well be getting Garde, absolutely sick today

  • 54 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:50 PM

    Mister Tuff

Could not agree more. I don’t get the delusional fans with we will be alright. We are not alright. Things are not working in all areas of pitch bar, Janmaat, Gini, Mitro to an extent, he was frustrated today. We have no LW we have no RW, we have no CM, we have the worst defence in a very long time and we have always had a shit defence.

Nothing positive going forward. If I was Ashley I would seriously start thinking of how I was going to recover all the lost money as we are a serious contender for relegation outright.

I just don’t see us winning any games from the top 10 clubs. Leaving us with very few games that we can contest going forward.

No player will want to join us in January and I don’t see why would they.

  • 55 Transfer Sage // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:50 PM

Like you say, debatable but don’t give the ref the opportunity to make the decision, just defend properly.

Hopefully we play well next week and Colo doesn’t get back in the team.

  • 56 Jib // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:51 PM

    Mr Tuff

    How melodramatic.

I am judging him after 10 games also.

We have a good squad , it needs tweaking for sure , but no way we are relegation fodder .

Every match there is observable improvement , with a pledge of more spending in the next 2 windows , the scum got lucky , their own blogs admit it .

Altogether now “The only way is up etc etc “

  • 57 John Tudor // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:53 PM

go back on their blogs then all is not well and we can still drop further

  • 58 West Lancs Geordie // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:56 PM

Should have let Pards take Colo – he’s done!. Could have then brought in someone younger like Van Djyk. Badly need a CB & full back in January if it’s not too late by then. Looks like a dogfight between ourselves, Mackems, Villa , Bournemouth & maybe Stoke for the drop. Why he didn’t start Anita before Tiote never know. Thauvin another weak lightweight Frenchman who chickened out of the tackle for last goal. Sissoko drives hard at the heart of defences but then does too much & loses it. Suspensions on top of injuries is now very worrying even though yet again we had an excellent first half.Perez, Gino & Mitro continue to be bright lights though

  • 59 TroubledToon // Oct 25, 2015 at 5:58 PM

Have been watching Van Dijk play ever since he joined the EPL… N every time I do, I cringe in my seat thinking what could have been had we been firm enough to actually sign him. He’s good on the ball, solid.. No nonsense kinda defending.. Good in the air… Plus good option for set pieces cuz of his height. He’s already shown that he’s adapted well in the league. A pairing of him n Chancel wudve been class…
Wishful thinking tho…. N what pisses me off even more is that the money that cudve been used to sign him was spent on that damn Pretty Boy Thauvin!!!!!
    Damn u Carr!!! Damn u!!!

  • 60 AncientC // Oct 25, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Transfer Sage – If Coloccini is the last man back and gives away a penalty, he has by definition (as far as the ref is concerned) “denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick.” Deemed a red card offense.

  • 61 Mister Tuff // Oct 25, 2015 at 6:00 PM

gorgonzola – just got to look at the table – 22 goals conceded – worst in the league -along with Bournemouth. They say the table does not lie. /the table agrees with what most fans think about the defence – over a 3 year period. Clearly no enough emphasis in rectifying this over the summer.
We are told lessons have been learnt – I would suggest they haven’t.

  • 62 Shadow_Shearer // Oct 25, 2015 at 6:02 PM

I can not believe ppl are sayin colo should not have challenged fletcher. If fletcher had scored u all would be sayin colo should have at least put a shoulder in. Although colo is not that good anymore, there was nothing wrong with his challenge, only thing that was wrong was the ref decision.

  • 63 stuart no9 // Oct 25, 2015 at 6:15 PM

transfer — do you not agree that the football we played today was miles better than what theyn have been serving up lately ??

  • 64 Mag52 // Oct 25, 2015 at 6:49 PM

The better football we are playing these days might be on account of the recent additions to the team of Gini (voted top Dutch player last season), Mitro (Serbian international cf) and Mbemba. Good football though won’t mean anything without points on the board come the end of the season.
A couple of scrappy wins would come in pretty handy about now IMO.
