Newcastle To Make Move For England International In January

8:00 am, Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

Newcastle were said to be interested in signing 24 year-old Tottenham winger Andros Townsend in the summer and there is a report today in the Sun that his London club are now ready to let him go out on loan in January.

If that´s correct then Newcastle will be interested but according to the report we will have competition from at least Swansea City.

Andros Townsend – available on loan in January

Newcastle will need reinforcements in January if we are to stay in the Premier League this season and it would seem the England International would be a decent acquisition on loan.

He´s played in the Premier League and therefore wouldn´t need much settling in time, which is usually the problem for players Newcastle sign – since they are usually from the continent and need time to settle in to the much faster pace of the Premier League.

Newcastle probably need to change their transfer policy so that we sign more British players and that gives us some advantages.

They usually have played in the Premier League and can produce immediately and they are known quantities.

With some of our signings from the continent, there´s a much bigger risk and players like Remy Cabella and Manu Riviere just don´t make it.

Tottenham are said to want to bring in Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace, but they would seem to have little chance of doing that.

Alan Pardew has much more control at Palace than he ever had at Newcastle, which is one reason he’s doing so well there,  and he´s not daft enough to let his top player leave half-way through the season.

He was forced to do that by the Newcastle hierarchy with Yohan Cabaye a couple of years ago, and the team slumped for the rest of the season.

We don´t think the Palace hierarchy are so obsessed with making money as Newcastle are – they want to build a good side.

We think Andros Townsend would be a good loan signing for us if we can get him.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Can he play CM or CB or LB or RB?

  • 2 optimistic prime // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:07 AM

Wouldn’t want him on loan either, what’s the point? We have Aaron’s and Thauvin not playing and Sammy out on loan plus young Roberts coming through.

And there’s probably someone else I’ve forgot.

Waste of a squad place IMO

Mbabu is a CB/RB originally, right?
Dummet also LB/CB, we also have Llaceles and Willo if Colo is banned for 3 matches.
I kinda like Mbabu and Mbemba -Mb CB combination.
I still wish we play we 3 CB in 352 or 343 formation, these formations served Juventus-Conte so well.

Townsend seemed like a player when he first burst on the scene but now I’m not sure he is any better than Thauvin?
On the subject of Williamson he is probably not a bad option against Stoke but I’m don’t think McClaren fancies him because he hasn’t even made the bench recently!

The logical January move we should make is to recall Arma.

  • 6 firebug666 // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:09 AM

Aye there will be plenty more of these stories from now till the end of January.

I think it would be easier to say who we are not link with in a transfer saga.

In a nut shell, the perfect example of where reading the headline is just enough.

  • 8 optimistic prime // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:11 AM

Haha, I got to English players and gave up.

  • 9 Jail for Ashley // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:12 AM

He is plying his trade at the moment in League one, the third division, let him enjoy his football instead of throwing him into a relegation battle with five minute cameos.

  • 10 optimistic prime // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:15 AM

We don’t need British or English players we need expirienced players coming into their prime instead of young prospects learning their trade in one of the toughest leagues in the world.

If we bought British English I’d expect they’d be from the championship and be untested in EPL, Ashley don’t pay top dollar!

I prefer Arma than Townsed if we are going to get winger or forward. I really think we are going to lose Cisse and MArv in January, not sure about Obertan.

Arma shouldn’t come back. I’d say that isn’t logical at all. Move him t a Championship club if possible so he continues his progression, but he shouldn’t be recalled to play a bit part in our second half of the season.

Townsend is a poor player. That is why spurs want rid of him and want to replace him. I hope this isn’t true. Firstly, useless, secondly it doesn’t fix any of the major issues in the current starting 11. Hopefully this is just some journalistic fantasy.

Anyway I don’t think we have any interest in Townsend. He would probably move to Villa or Sunderland.

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:21 AM

Saying you would rather have Arma back than Townsend is a moot point as it is just another one of Ed’s non articles trawled from some site that he’s hooked up to.

    Cyprus last thread.

I see what you mean fair point in Mbemba.

For me it has to be dummet in at CB if colo is banned.

His long term future is at CB in my opinion.

  • 17 Santon03 // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:21 AM

If Mbabu can do well without loan, I don’t see any reason to extend the Arma loan.
He didn’t get as much chance as Mbabu under pardew, he only played 10 minutes in 2 or 3 games in hoofball system.

  • 18 Lilongwe Geordie // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:25 AM

Mbabu is 2 years older than Arma and physically far more mature. Arma has done well on his loan so far, why bring him back unless he is going to be starting?

I’d argue Mbabu should be out on loan if he isn’t going to play, unless they have decided that he will be released in the summer and are just keeping him for cover.

  • 19 Jail for Ashley // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:25 AM

We won’t buy players that other British clubs have already paid the bargain price for, it is an Ashley trait and he’s making his ‘board’ members stick to it, e will not allow the likes of Celtic to profit from players they have picked up as bargains, whether it’s a personal thing that he doesn’t like to see others profiteering from him or he thinks it’s good business is a mystery but it certainly prevents us buying any players with PL experience.

  • 20 Santon03 // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:25 AM

I don’t think Cisse, Marv will stay. Cisse will definitely go if he can’t get any start. We will need another forward/winger but definitely not Townsed.

  • 21 Lilongwe Geordie // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:26 AM

Mbabu didn’t get any chances under Pardew. He went to Rangers for the latter part last season.

  • 22 Santon03 // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:28 AM

Are we going to get Austin again?

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:29 AM

Then we need to buy someone with proven quality and let Armstrong learn his trade where he can enjoy his football.

  • 24 Lilongwe Geordie // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:33 AM

I can’t see QPR letting Austin leave for anything less then top dollar if they are still in with a chance of promotion. If Austin gets the goals then he is far more valuable through promotion then a sale. Austin will also then likely get more suitors and a higher wage if he gets the goals.

  • 25 martoon // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:39 AM

Santon03 @22 – Two different people supposedly ‘in the know’ have told me that Austin is a done deal for January – contracts agreed etc. Of course they could easily both be wrong 🙂

  • 26 The overrated Frenchman // Oct 27, 2015 at 8:51 AM

Before we sign another winger can we get rid of Obertan and Thauvin, and make sure Cabella and Ferguson don’t come back? And either play or sell Aarons while we’re at it. Just a thought. And Ed, the Palace/Pardew love-in is wearing a but thin, man…

  • 27 lesh // Oct 27, 2015 at 9:20 AM

Is a winger really a priority when we’re leaking so many goals?

  • 28 The overrated Frenchman // Oct 27, 2015 at 9:33 AM

Lesh, the notion of building a decent defence is so clearly beyond the collective intelligence of Charnley, Carr and McClaren there’s really no point going there.
