Our Man Of The Match Continues To Impress

We dominated the second half against Stoke City on Saturday but could get a goal to win the game – so we still have just one win in the 11 league games this season and only four wins in 30 league games this year – and that´s a terrible record.

But we did have some decent performances from the Newcastle side on Saturday and we managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time since August we drew 0-0 at Manchester United – and the Stoke game turned out to be our second 0-0 result in the league this season.

22 year-old Ayoze Perez – improving all the time

Our best performer on Saturday was 22 year-old Ayoze Perez who continues to improve this season and he works well with 21 year-old Aleksandar Mitrovic, but neither could get us a goal although the Serbian International hit the post with a good header in the first half but we have no luck and the ball hit goalkeeper Butland but was then cleared.

Ayoze has 39% of the vote with his strike partner Mitrovic in second place on 19% and another new signing Chancel Mbemba having a solid game at center-back and he´s on 10%.

Perez has two goals for us in nine appearances this season and since joining us from Tenerife for £1.4M last year he has 9 goals in 48 total appearances for the Magpies.

    There you go Hibbitt 🙂

Wijnaldum is a decent player too. Probably more effective that Perez too.

Still, for me, Perez was the standout player, but I think that was part of the issue, a decent enough team performance, but no one standing up and providing that cutting edge.

According to this site it was 50 games on Saturday for Ayoze (must be cup games as well)
The folk back home are clearly very proud of their boy.

Hibbitt…It is a part of his game he needs to work on, but then again, he is still young and has time.

That’s my issue to some extent with our recruitment. Goals are so important in the PL and dumping the responsibility on Perez and Mitrovich was always a big ask.

Obviously Cisse is still kicking about, but getting a few minutes at the end of a game is unlikely to play to his strengths.

From the last window I can see where we might be heading, what we might be building, but there are two big issues for me, the here and now and whether with the long term strategy we’ll ever see anything close to the finished article that some are expecting.

A lot of that will depend on what they’ve told the players and whether they believe the club are following up on that. I feel in the past that hasn’t been the case.

Excluding the Norwich game we’ve struggled in front of goal.
Cisse may not offer the attributes of Mitrovich or Perez but he’s a proven scorer at this level.

Why isn’t he getting a chance up front with Mitrovich, I’d like to see what he could do with the service currently going into the box. I like Perez but he flatters at times and goals win games not chances.

IMO Cisse gets a hard time, he’s a poacher who plays off the last defender not a target man or winger.
His record even with a virtual season on the wing is decent. I def think he should get a start.

OP…Or at the very least 15-20 minutes to get in to a game.

Depends on the tactics, but Cisse should be tried with both Perez and Mitrovich. If Perez can create the moves and space, Cisse could benefit in a big way, just the same with Mitrovich holding the ball up.

Except a short time with Ba I can’t rember Cisse playing with a partner.

He needs a shot IMO, S Mc shouldn’t have to change to much to replace Cisse with Perez, I agree he should be getting last 20 mins atleast.

The lack of goals is a result of Wijnaldum changing his his role in the game because of the injury to Colback . With Tiote rapidly returning to form we should see Gigi getting into more attacking positions in the next few games and the goals flowing again.

OP…My concern, and where I think Perez has been a big part of our play, is in the build up. Yes, his finishing can be poor, but for me, he’s usually involved in getting the ball in to the better areas.

Would Cisse be getting the same service without Perez in the team? I don’t see how he gets dropped tbh. Then again, given our plight, perhaps lack of goals in enough reason. However, surely that applies to Mitrovich too.

Screw it, play 3 strikers Steve, our defense is usually rubbish anyway.

Jib…Didn’t Wijnaldum play the same position as he has previously, until the De Jong sub?

Or are you talking responsibilities when you say his role? Been asked to protect Tiote until he’s up to speed?

I do think Wijnaldum is some player, but the lack of goals aren’t just since Colback was injured.

Bournemouth is must win by the way lads. I watched their game yesterday and it was very easy for Southampton.

I think when they had Wilson fit i was worried, but now they have Glenn Murray who gives you next to nothing, hopefully even old man Coloccini can cope with him.

And their defence should crumble against ours, probably the biggest risk is matt Ritchie from distance. He can hit the ball and our defence have a problem with not closing out players, however were far better at it on Saturday. Including Tiote his best game in ages.

Take heed of Sparky, he’s not keen on the notion that Charnley has any vision or ambition. The naughty step’s in the back yard and not a good place to be – especially if it’s pi$$ing down!.

Jail, nowt to do with me but you know Bobbybee’s suffering pain and prone to mood swings. Mightn’t it be better not to push your arguments too hard?

I think folk are worrying about nothing. Most fans seem to rate both Perez and Mitro yet are worried about not scoring.

It doesn’t make sense. It would if they were brubbish and everyone thought they were but the opposite is true.

What you have to understand is that if another striker is played then Perez will always be the fall guy. He is rated top performer by yourselves so can’t be doing that bad a job now can he?

He needs to play and will get better and better. Cameo appearances as a 20 minute sub are not the way forward. He is a vital cog in our machine.

There are lots of goals in this team so I am not worried at all.

Players are adapting to playing ‘footy’ and we are creating chance after chance.

Our strikers have the ability to start banging them in and will.

We hit Butland on form and had Collo sent off in a game which I thought we would score a boatload in the second half.

Roll on Bournmouth is what I say. Our team is starting to click despite previous results and we are going to start going to town on teams. Bournmouth I feel will only be the start.
