Over 1,300 Geordie fans made the long 720 miles round trip to Bournemouth yesterday getting picked up by the buses in Newcastle at around 2:00 am on Saturday morning.
As the commentators said on NBC Sports yesterday – those are the real supporters – and of course they are absolutely right.
Steve McClaren and Eddie Howe before the game yesterday
As usual Newcastle got great support on the road yesterday and they were rewarded with a great 3 points even though the performance was poor.
Rob Elliot and Newcastle were able to keep their second clean sheet in a row – but it was mainly due to the brilliant efforts of Rob Elliot in goal – and Rob has revealed he even played against doctor ‘s orders yesterday.
Steve McClaren has admitted that getting out of the relegation zone was the main thing yesterday, but it was also our first road win since January and that would have sent the supporters back home happy with all 3 points.
They could talk about that Perez goal and the many Rob Elliot saves for the seven or more hours it would have taken to get back to Newcastle after the game.
What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening – and the beer would taste even better?
🙂
This is what McClaren said after the game about getting out of the bottom three:
“I think that is the most important aspect.”
“That and sending those 1,300 fans back home with a smile on their faces after what must have been a long journey through the night and a long day going back.”
“That’s the most pleasing thing for me.”
Newcastle didn’t play well and we will expect a vastly improved performance at home against Leicester City in two weeks time – and we need another win in that game.
We can do that if we can play somewhere near our best against a good Leicester side.
Comments welcome.

Yup.. Kane was at Arsenal as 8 year old b4 they let him go. It was apparently brought to Monsieur Wenger’s notice a few days back which in his words “made me very angry because we sold him”
Happened to read an article on it on Friday…
And as far as the us vs Pardew battle goes, its an argument thats pointless and beyond its sell by date… its best that v save our energy n support/moan about our lads…

I’m not bothered how other managers are doing or teams I’m just focused on us getting out of the mess an old manager and owner got us in.

this pardew talk is a offical part of the blog, the anti pardew crew are too embarressed to just admit to others pardew is a mid table manager with boring football. They desperate for him to relegate palace whilst we ourselves remain in the premier league.
I can see the manager LVG and even morineo being considered a league 1 manager on this blog because of all that boring defensive football they do.

Comment #87Tuff probably more accurate to say that you should be eating jellied eel pie. Problem with you and rotunda etc is that you cannot accept a balanced argument. You cant accept that we once got 5th and did well in the europa. You just cant accept it and only see the relegation fight. Then you cant accept that he saved palace at a canter despite people saying they were going down. Then you cant accept that he is doing well now. And you cant accept that our players and senior management were seriously at fault too. So you just blame pardew
Meanwhile reasoned argument from mag52 etc says that pardew is not useless. We say he is average, and better than you say. but you cant accept it. Hilarious stuff.

Comment #88We’ve seen enough to realise the football under Macca is much better. Surely nobody would deny that? Yesterday was a poor performance yet we stole three points. Now we need consistency. To play well and take our chances will see the results improve until we can add to the squad in january. Hopefully Macca will have more say in who we buy this time, although i am happy with who we bought in the summer. This is to be a complete rebuild and will take the three windows Macca asked for. There’s light at the end of the tunnel for the first time in years. No overnight miracle, but two more windows isn’t that long to wait imo. That’s when I’ll judge Macca and if it isn’t working he’ll get both barrels, but until then I’ll see how it goes. If he can get consistency, that’ll do for starters.

Comment #91Three points was great and much needed yesterday and well done to Elliott.
But the rest of the team should hang there heads in shame, our play was a disgrace.
I will say Thauvin at least tried and didn’t give the ball away quite as easily.
we had NO energy and totally unfit.

in recent week i’ve began calling it the pardew blog myself. The most suprising thing about all this is the guy most desperate to see him out is most keen to still create pardew talks. mid week this block was in a abusive style which appeared to kick off from catchy himself.

Comment #93Precisely why I say save your energy mate. Some may idolize Pardew, others despise.. Fact is he’s gone… And its a new era under Macca. I’d like to focus more on that and the nerve wracking experience it is being a Toon.
And with that, let’s put an end to the P****w topic, before we get accused of furthering it!!!

Comment #94This bloody Pardew debate isn’t about proving whether he was a good manager, a bad manager, or a mediocre one.
I didn’t like him. And I still don’t like him. You could twist my arm til I screamed out that he is the best manager that ever lived. And I still wouldn’t like him.
I don’t like him because he regarded us as a little club in the sticks who would do until he rebuild his reputation as a reliable pair of hands at cheap and cheerful clubs. He regarded beating Stoke as punching above our weight.
He had no respect for this club. He was an apologist for systemic mediocrity.
And I don’t care if he becomes Pope and wins the Grand National in his underpants. I don’t care if he’s any good.
I don’t like him. Get it?

Comment #95Moanster – alot of things there which you attribute to me in respect of not accepting certain aspects of King Percy’s tenure at SJP and at his current job.
Indeed a mega list of things which I supposedly cannot accept – also a list of things which you have just bloody invented on the hoof.
I don’t mind fellow posters having a challenge on what I’ve said but to make up a list, to invent a list is not good form at all.
Please supply evidence of your allegations as soon as possible.

I agree with you mate we are seeing us play a much better way and we will have a complete new look team when next season kicks off, with macca on the board he will have much more say on transfers, like I said earlier we will have more games like yesterday along the way of this rebuild, I’m behind macca 100% he is a good coach and we are looking a better team with him here along with his staff.

it’s not really the likes of yourself who all this decent or crap manager generally realates to it’s the extremists like catchy who rabbit’s on and on each and every week, we’ll finish above palace, palace will lose and sound like a fan of there opposition when palace win.
Why can’t they just forget about pardew and palace, just focus on mac and newcastle, he’s gone that’s it

Comment #101I was one who didn’t want Pardew to leave, purely because I was worried who’d take his place. Overall i think he did a decent job under extremely difficult circumstances, but it no longer matters, surely? Those who wanted him out got their wishes, so why the obsession in how he does now? Not many wanted Hughton to go and he’s unbeaten this season, yet not a peep about him. I don’t see any point in even arguing about him – we’ve had two managers/head coaches since he left. It’s canny boring because it’s none of our business any more. Frankly I’m enjoying seeing Palace, Leicester and West Ham giving the big boys long needed competition and hope we can join then next season. The hatred of Pardew mixed with the love in of traitor Cabaye – both at Palace – is, to be honest, one of the most bizarre things I can remember. He didn’t suit us, whereas currently he is suiting Palace. It certainly doesn’t keep me awake at night, why can’t we just let it go?

He’s been at Crystal Palace for a year and you’d think he was the hottest topic in town.
A lot of people on here say they are now looking forward to match day for the first time in years. That’s not because they are all convinced that things will be different or even better under McClaren.
It’s just the hope it won’t be the same old story, which many were sick of seeing and hearing.
I’m not anti-Pardew. I’m just sick of the sight and sound of him.

Comment #106Moanster – I’ll take that as you have no evidence and that you admit you made it all up.
I expect that with a Palace victory – you’ll already have the eel pie in the oven and will be doing a few Irish Jigs around the house to the music of Chas n’ Dave (Cockney/rockney).

Comment #112I look forward to the games now more than in the recent past because we actually play football – yesterday being the exception that proves the rule, obviously. There are brief occasions when the one touch football comes off that the whole stadium is lifted. The fans who go to games are back on board and that makes it enjoyable all the more, despite being bottom, as we were. 47k might be poor for us, but show me another team who’-d get that many if they were bottom end for three seasons running? The only time we should be even thinking about other teams, players or managers is when we play them. Leicester next is a big enough worry, but i think Mbemba can match Vardy for pace. Either way, another good game in the pipeline. Bring it on!

Comment #113Ian, i appreciate your – and everyone elses. – concern, i honestly do. It shows humanity is alive and well out there. 😉 I am concerned that we haven’t heard from our Leeds friend for a while and truly hope he’s well. I am how i am and it’s not prying to ask or I wouldn’t respond. 😉 Hopefully this scan will result in me getting treatment I need, because until they know what the cause is, they can’t start to treat me properly. I’ll let you know the results as soon as I know, because your concern is genuine. Until then, it’s matches in the wheelchair for me! 😉
