Newcastle Player Refutes Claims Against Him

It must be difficult being a professional footballer these days when there seems to be all kinds of stories made up about the players – and some of them are even true.

A few months ago the news at Newcastle was that Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote were the bad eggs in the Newcastle dressing room and they were damaging the Newcastle team spirit – we’re not sure where that story actually started – but anyway it did the rounds.

Of course, it wasn’t true and we remember at one of Steve McClaren’s press conferences he was asked about the story and the coach denied it immediately and was surprised it was even a story.

That shows Steve is also wise and doesn’t read many newspapers – at least not the football sections.

Cheick Tiote was interviewed in the Chronicle about that particular rumor and this is how he answered it:

“It didn’t affect me, I know myself that I didn’t do anything bad. Everybody at the club and my partner knows that.”  “I just do my best for the team, that is the most important thing. All I want is to see the team go forward and win games.”

“I am a footballer and I have a job to do. I don’t read too many newspapers. I just come in train hard, do my best for the team and if the manager gives the opportunity I will do my best in the games.”

“Every player wants to play every week.”  “It wasn’t easy for me. But I know myself, and I know I have to do everything right and try to work hard to come back. That’s what I was doing. Now I have to do the same things.”

In fact last week before the win at Bournemouth Steve McClaren said that Tiote had been like a breath of fresh air at Newcastle and we are hoping he can get back to his best form.

However, like a number of our players the Ivorian did  not have a good game last Saturday – but we still scraped the win – thanks to goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

That’s a good 7 points from our last four games and hopefully we can get our third win in five games against Leicester City a week on Saturday.
