Former Manchester United Defender Could Arrive At Newcastle

10:55 pm, Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Newcastle were linked with 22 year-old Burnley center-half Michael Keane, who came though the Red Devils Youth Academy before joining Burnley permanently last January after being on loan there since the previous September.

Newcastle will almost definitely bring in a center-back in January and Michael could be that central defender who comes in.

Michael Keane – 22 year-old Burnley center-back

Keane came through the Youth Academy at Manchester and had loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley before signing full time for the Clarets early this year.

Newcastle head coach McClaren knows all about Michael Keane,  because he was manager at Derby County when Michael was on loan there from November 2013, through January of the next year, when he played 8 times for County.

Keane has been playing well for Burnley, and he is starting to attract the interest of some Premier League clubs.

The 6ft 2ins defender is said to have been impressed with Steve McClaren while he was at Derby County, and Newcastle have to look to bring in a center-back who can eventually take over at the club when Coloccini finally hangs up his boots.

It’s expected that Steven Taylor´s  contract will not be renewed when it comes to an end at the end of June and Mike Williamson could sign for Wolves in January – six months before his Newcastle contract is due to run out.

Michael Keane played for the England U19 and U20 sides and 16 times for the England U21 side, and he is a classy defender.

He has played 39 times for Burnley so far with three goals and one assist, and in his career – including his loan spells – he has 92 total appearances with 9 goals.

This season he has played 16 times for Burnley with three goals.

We think Keane would be a very good acquisition for Newcastle.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I am a patient supporter of Newcastle United Football Club.
Is it too much to ask from the owner that we should set some realistic goals and realistically strive to achieve them?
All we ever read or hear is lip service and platitudes.
I really am beginning to despair at the lack of leadership which somehow translates into mind numbing performances on the pitch.
The brief optimism brought about after the ” horse and cart ” statement has evaporated and been replaced by a vacuum.
Please return the football team I support to the 1951, 1952, 1955 era or any of the SBR, King Kevin eras.
At present the football only exists to further the interests of Mike Ashley and Sports Direct.
Apathy pervades NUFC in its entirety.

    I feel much better now.

Judging by the silence on here, it seems we’ve stumbled across a more effective cure for insomnia than Horlicks .

This guy just seems like he is in the same boat as Lascelles, bringing him in will block Lascelles progression.

We need an Mbemba quality player in now, then use Lascelles as reserve for a season or 2 to let him come through.
