Newcastle Again Linked With Former Top England Defender

Newcastle are again linked with Roma and former Arsenal, Chelsea and England left-back Ashley Cole – who turns 35 just before Christmas.

And while we were linked with Cole in the summer we doubt whether Newcastle are really interested in the former world-class left-back, who is currently at Roma – with one year left on his contract.

Ashley Cole – now at Roma

Cole has not made an appearance yet for Roma this season and is simply struggling to play in Rome after he appeared only 16 appearances last season – his first season in Rome.

There is a report in Corriere dello Sport that Roma are trying to offload the former England International in January – so that’s hardly surprising.

There was a report that Newcastle has bid for Cole in the summer bit that he turned a move to Newcastle down.

As we said before we’d be very surprised if any of this news is accurate with Newcastle having three young players in Paul Dummett, Sadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu fighting for the left back spot at Newcastle.

This seems like the Andy Carroll story that comes up in every transfer window – so we’ll be linked with Cole in January and maybe even next summer too – when he will be a free agent again.

We’d be shocked if there is any truth in this report about Newcastle being after the soon to be 35 year-old.

What do you think?

If we have 22+ points by New Year and the injuries situation isn’t looking too bad I don’t think we’ll buy anyone.
For that to happen MClaren will have had a decent two months, and they will figure he can’t possibly go on a losing streak like Carver.
God knows they have told us often enough they don’t like doing business in January unless the right deal becomes available.
Mbemba has done well and Colocinni is captain and first name on the team sheet. We have three spares, and you only need one.
Colback is the heart of the midfield – a firm favourite with club and fans and very reasonably priced.
We might sign if the right deal comes along for Tiote, Cisee or Sissoko.
Tenth was never stated as a definite target for this season, and the fans will see progress in a safe 16th without too many frights.

Yeah, ideally the other midfielder would have more to their game then any of the options at the moment. But all three of the midfield would still need to work as we the opposition will commit players forward. With three more attacking players then we couldn’t get away with Sissoko having one of his lazy days and one of the days (like Bournemouth) where he doesn’t win a single tackle or make an interception.

Gini isn’t much better, so for me both doesn’t work.

Can’t imagine there’s much truth in this although he probably is still a better fullback than both of dummy & haidara.

If we could sign any LB at the moment who would you sign?

Never ever happening in a billion years, this is just made up rubbish. It makes no logical sense at all, more chance of Gazza making a come back into the starting XI

We don’t need a LB we need a CB replacement for Collo, some capable wingers, a solid DM and maybe a striker or goalkeeper then a left back if we get all those first.

We’d be better off making a move for Old King Cole!
