This Emerging Star Ready For Another Chance

6:42 pm, Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 60 Comments

Newcastle United 20 year-old prospect Kevin Mbabu has played for all the Swiss Youth sides through U19 level and was outstanding when he played against Chelsea and also in the first half at Manchester City when he helped set up the go-ahead goal by Aleksandar Mitrovic in the first half – before the team collapsed completely in the second half.

Kevin picked up a hamstring injury, but he’s fit again and was on the bench at Bournemouth and came on late in the game for his fourth first-team appearance of the season.

Kevin Mbabu in action for Newcastle this season

In fact given the great game the Swiss lad had against Chelsea at left back he may be the best left back we currently have at the club and we’d love to see him given another chance in the first team.

Mbabu is also keen to get back in the first team:

“Maybe I will be on the bench in the next few weeks,” “But I am working hard every day.”

“I want to show the manager what I can do and I want a chance. I’m ready.”

Local lad Paul Dummett has returned to the team after taking some time to recover from his own hamstring injury – and currently he is McClaren’s first choice at left back.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the January transfer window and then Steve McClaren will have a decision to make on Kevin Mbabu – and that is whether to loan him out so he can get some first team games.

Kevin shocked a lot of fans  by his outstanding play this season where he was good going forward and also in defending.

When he arrived at Newcastle almost three years ago as a 17 year-old he was very highly regarded in Europe and specifically wanted to join Newcastle with other top clubs also after him.

He’s looked a very good player in the first team for us and hopefully Kevin will get another  chance soon – very soon.

Comments welcome.

Eds blog is stale same statements repeated week in week out
    Its boring he is boring
    ED OUT

    hey superstar,

without ed, there is no blog for your idiotic, juvenile insane rants….

    Well said dok

  • 6 remember69 // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:12 PM

The blog is not boring, but I can see why supporters get jaded by the relentless and repetitive negative comments by the same old squatters.

The fact that many comments are not based on fact, prove the author has their own agenda, or have no substance in any way makes such opinions a waste of time to read.

Ed does what any fan would want him to – he collates (factual) information, adds his own opinions and puts out for general comments. If you find the blog boring feel free not to participate.

BTW – Ashley in!!!!! (at least that is POSITIVE…)

  • 7 Jib // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:18 PM

I hope you are wearing a crash helmet or hiding under the table !

    well said

on the keeper front ! imo we dont need another we have elliott/woodman fit or almost fit and darlow back very soon.

3 very capable keepers or quality when krul comes back and one very good youth keeper who’s more than capable of playing the odd game or so now if needed.

  • 9 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:22 PM

Let’s all think of a positive statement so as not to jade our sensitive souls Remember69.

    Worldwide Pandemics – IN!

    (at least that’s a positive)

I guess the blog isn’t suffering because the team isn’t doing so great, and there is rarely anything genuinely exciting to discuss.

I guess it isn’t that the situation creates a degree of disharmony, which turns people off.

I guess the only and the whole problem with club and blog is one or two usual suspects with agendas who lack the requisite positivity to send us galumphing up the table.

  • 10 Jib // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:24 PM

If the Salvatore Sirigu rumour has any basis in truth it is a very postive sign , he is heir apparent to Bufon and rated in the top 10 in the world .
A winning team always starts with a class keeper.

  • 11 croftus5678 // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:24 PM

i honestly think charlie austin would be a big positive for us 😉

Latest news tonight, my dad will be having an operation in the next three weeks.

  • 14 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 7:41 PM

    Well, it’s only football.
The world’s most important unimportant thing, as the man on the telly just said.
It isn’t a matter of life and death, as things are for Welshgeordie and his dad.
    And it isn’t war.
Let’s hope this international is packed with incident.
    None of it fatal.

    Howay Football!

    But I HATE Chanel.

  • 24 croftus5678 // Nov 17, 2015 at 8:10 PM

    @18 dok

erm…i dunno is he a very good youth keeper ??? if so i erm guess but if not i dont think so !

4 keepers is too many squad numbers for one team i’d rather have 10cb’s in the squad maybe we wont let as many goals in then 😉

  • 25 bladeuser // Nov 17, 2015 at 8:38 PM

    Eds next classic statement
Should we take Carroll back or nufc plan bid for Austin
    ED OUT

  • 26 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 8:51 PM

    Poor Dele Alli.
    Just think.
He could have been on loan at Barnsley now.
Getting some football under his belt.

  • 27 dok - the horrid colonial // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:07 PM

suffice it to say, bladeuser, take your meds, you need them, or at least anger management classes… youre as boring as watching paint dry…

  • 28 dok - the horrid colonial // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:09 PM

actually he is… hes doing quite well this season, 11-4-1, and getting a tryout with the u-12 squad in may for the number 1 keeper spot as well…

  • 29 Jail for Ashley // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:10 PM

We dodged a bullet with Delly Ally, young flash Harry who only cares about money, if they don’t want to be here we don’t want them.

  • 30 dok - the horrid colonial // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:10 PM

and I have always advocated pards formation of a 10-0-1, lol

  • 31 bladeuser // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:14 PM

Dok or is it dick watching paint dry is akin to watching Nufc or reading this outdated repetitive blog 90% of it isn’t football related anyway
    ED OUT

  • 32 Jail for Ashley // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:14 PM

Why didn’t we get him in the end anyway, were we really after him, did we stall on the fee or did he just plain turn us down ?

  • 33 croftus5678 // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:15 PM

    @28 dok

cool hope he gets a break.

and ye those pards 0-0’s and 1-0’s to us pushed us well up the tabl……oh hang on !!!

another cb in jan though jokes aside and another big lad for up front ! i’d also <3 willems.

  • 34 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:19 PM

He’s only warming that England place for a proper player like Jack.

Hatem, meanwhile, will be thinking they took him off to tighten the defence and conceded in five minutes.

Well, Hatem lad, if there’s a highway down your side of the pitch, with a third-rate full back like Gibbs running riot, what’s your coach gonna do?

At least get your shirt wet, hun.

  • 35 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:31 PM

Salvatore Sirigu would be an upgrade on Krul and Elliot would love us to sign him a good goal keeper for 10 million could make all the difference points wise later on in the season !

  • 36 martoon // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:33 PM

I actually wanted Ben Arfa to do well but it was a typical performance by him. A couple of good bursts forward. one brilliant pass but then the rest of the time he kept giving the ball away!

  • 37 dok - the horrid colonial // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:35 PM

think cb is a must, and first, any other spot is secondary imo

  • 38 dok - the horrid colonial // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:36 PM

    bladeuser ——-ooooooooouuuuutttt

btw, nice 5th grade response there, well done, hope you came up with that all by yourself, big boy… muppet

  • 39 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:37 PM

I’d love to see Mike on that Football Manager game.

He’s set his coach and scout search to zero.

Then he’d set THEIR searches to zero.

If all goes well, he need never know that £10m goalkeepers even exist.

  • 40 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:41 PM

He’d set all his players to “not needed.”

And all his asking prices to £40m.

Then he’d sit their like a big, fat, spoiled 11-year old waiting for all the conkers to drop into his lap.

  • 41 Jib // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:42 PM

Moussa (I want CL footy) Sissoko is on.
By gum Gary Cahill doesn’t like Olivier Giroud !

  • 42 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:42 PM

Last time I played that game was a couple of seasons ago and Joe Kinnear was trying to sell Tiote behind my back while also blocking moves for some players I wanted to buy…..

    Bloody realistic !!

  • 43 martoon // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:54 PM

Jib @41 – I only saw him touch the ball about 3 times – lets hope he didn’t strain anything 🙂

  • 44 manxpie // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:55 PM

    Martoon he’s clearly been dechamped!

  • 45 Jib // Nov 17, 2015 at 9:58 PM

    Sissoko actually tackled someone!!
It was from behind like , and therefore a foul , but he tried.

  • 46 martoon // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:02 PM

    manxpie & Jib LOL 🙂

  • 47 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:03 PM

I missed something out from my “TwentyYears On” scenario.

“McClaren hails 53 year-old Colocinni as signing of the season.
“Meanwhile the Newcastle Sports Direct United and Hotels Ltd blog has only one burning topic.
“Were we not right about Pardew, like?
“Would we not have him back…. in a heartbeat?
Even though he no longer has one?
“Bow down, you peasants…bow, bow, bow.”

  • 48 martoon // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:07 PM

Seriously I know France were probably a bit subdued but I thought England played pretty well – even sicker now we didn’t get Alli when we had the chance.

  • 49 Tsunki // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:22 PM

The pensionable Colo could be grafted onto a cutting edge exoskeletal frame in order to revive this tired legs. A glitch in the motor software inexplicably turns his body 180 degrees when presented with a shot at goal to defend….

  • 50 Tsunki // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:28 PM

Thought hba played well actually. Created most of the few bits of decent play. I don’t think he was subbed for any other reason than to mix things up.

  • 51 lesh // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:28 PM

Yup, Charnley’s should have a lot to answer for for no doubt pi$$ing about over a few quid when supposedly having Alli all but signed.

He deserves to have his backside kicked – out of the door.

  • 52 BandB // Nov 17, 2015 at 10:30 PM

    Jib, Jib, come back!!!
