Usually there are positives to take out of the game, but today there were very few positives to take out of the game – we guess we could say the result could have been 5-0 with Leicester missing some chances and easing off – but other than that – nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
It was an appalling display from Newcastle and when you look at our record in the league this season that´s abysmal too.
Steve McClaren and Paul Simpson
Here´s our league record this season.
Steve McClaren agrees the display today – especially in the second half – was appalling as he had this to say after the game:
“It was the worst performance we’ve had this season, very disappointing,” “And off the back of what has been a very good run.”
“We’ve had a big setback today, but that wasn’t us, that was nowhere near good enough, and all we can do is lick our wounds and work hard and make sure we’re better next week.”
The results of only 10 points in 13 games suggests that performance today was us – since the display was consistent with that record.
And we don´t know why it is taking Steve McClaren and his coaching staff this length of time to get Newcastle going.
Yes – he is a new coach with a new coaching staff – and we have some new players in the team – but there are a number of other managers in the Premier League who came in last summer and they are doing well this season.
One of them is Claudio Ranieri whose Leicester City team – after they tore us apart today – are at the top of the Premier League.
Arsenal lost 2-1 at West Brom and Liverpool dismantled Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad.
And another new manager – Jurgen Klopp is already having an immediate impact at Anfield and his players are playing like men possessed – they certainly played like that today.
After our game at Crystal Palace next week there is a big test against Liverpool at home and we don´t fancy our chances in that game if the Reds play like they played today at the Etihad.
But maybe our players will decide to turn up for that game with Liverpool being such a famous club.
Quique Sanchez Flores of Watford is another manager who has come in and is getting the best out of his players at the Hornets.
We´ll not even mention Alan Pardew who has completely transformed Crystal Palace as soon as he arrived at the London club in early January.
And Mike Ashley has to be asking himself exactly what he got for the £53M Newcastle invested in the summer.
The team and players are letting the fans down this season but those at the top – the Newcastle Board and the owner are doing no better – and they have hardly covered themselves in glory with their decisions this year.
And make no mistake – this year´s results are the worst in the history of the club.
The way the club is being run has never worked in the eight years Mike Ashley has been the owner – we have finished in the top ten only twice and been relegated once.
But we are not changing anything in the way the club is run – and doing the same old things – and we are expecting better results?
There´s something very wrong with Newcastle United – and if we don´t correct things soon we´ll be a Championship club next season.
Yes – we are trying to be patient but a big turnaround has to come – and soon – and we´ll have to spend some really big bucks in January to improve the squad.
This article is not meant to be overly negative – it´s just the facts and the results that are negative.

Comment #42Banjax, i dont think we are sleepwalking to relegation. I think frauds like Sissoko ( I first called him a fraud over 2 years ago so at least i’m consistent) know we are, but care little. Under Pardew, many of these guys showed they are more than capable of walking into relegation , and we really should have gone down, except that Swansea beat Wigan ( so yet, Pardew was a useless twat at times, just was hung out to dry by Ashley and his little friend Carr ) so i have no doubts that guys like Thauvin ( can anyone please explain this signing to me ? Well done Sparky for nailing ur flag on this ages ago ) and Sissoko and Cisse wont be doing much. I do believe that guys like Perez, Wini , Elliott, Dummett have professional pride, but the club is infected with a mediocre disposition built by Ashley. Steve wants better than this , and so do his staff, but he needed more than the signings he got this summer. Even beyond that, I think he is a better coach than a manager. This shower need a Brian Clough, but he would have walked out on Ashley after a month.

You’re like the man in the high castle, nobody can see the bigger picture but you, I guess each and everyone of the 47K who wouldn’t let Pardew out of the dug out against Cardiff we’re obsessive idiots too. Make your mind up, in some posts it’s a few obsessive idiots in others lonly some. I’ve said this to you before, it is you who couldn’t see the bigger picture, Pardew had to go because things simply had to change and unfortunately Mike Ashley has been stubborn, stupid and spiteful enough to make decisions that have changed us for the worse by the look of things, those wanting Pardew out were hoping for a vast improvement not a MKII. You slate those obsessive idiots for gpoing on about Pardew, you literally never shut up about him and now you’re going on about Carr and making out that everyone thinks he’s a super scout bar you when the reality is that the majority know that he’s a failed lower league/conference manager who in no way shape or form be deciding the 20th richest club in Europes policy along with a tea boy and a club ambassador, take a look at yourself Munster before pointing out everybody elses misguided faults.

Comment #45After the shocking performance of today, I think the most important signing of the January transfer window will be to find a midfield general. We need someone in the middle who can distribute the ball and take charge of the game while also good on his defensive duties. Someone with good leadership qualities too. Players in the same mold of Cabaye and Barton when they were at their best.
We also need to get rid of Sissoko. I think he has the biggest negative influence of the entire squad the way he plays at times. When you think about it, it seems like the team rise and fall with him. When he plays at his best the team normally plays well, and when he doesn’t the team suffers. Unfortunately his good performances have been few and far between.
Those are the 2 main things the club need to address in order to take this team forward imo.

Regardless of their qualities as managers at normal football clubs, Pardew and the McClaren were both appointed HERE primarily as glib patter merchants who could gild the poo with endlessly inventive tales of hard work and progress behind the scenes.
It is a bright, exciting new era in which boring old Jam Tomorrow has been replaced with brand new improved Jam Tomorrow.

Comment #49There was a point in the game when one of players was down and Colo walked past him oblivious – no eye contact, no pat on the back, no words of encouragement . No clue. Disengaged. Hopeless.

The poor squad, poor management, poor scouting and poor director and all down to one person….Mike Ashley.
Ultimately he is he head of the club and he either signs things off himself or puts others in positions of authority which they are not capable of.
Kinnear was poor, Pardew was poor, Carver was poor, McClaren is poor, many of the players we sign are poor…it’s all coming from once place.
Ultimately we need a guy running the club the right way, spends the money on the right players at the right time. Not buying players in the hope they can be sold on.

I did say I saw a little progress in a couple of games but today and last week was worse than anything else I’ve seen in years for us.
Other managers have gone into clubs and made a change in a much more positive and timely manner.
Look at liverpool, Klopp hasn’t got them as title contenders yet by a long way but you can at least see they are closing down, adapting to his style, being more positive and they look like they enjoy it.

Comment #57We wont ever get a good manager under MA
Because a good manager wouldnt put up with MA,and MA wouldnt like being told what he has too do.
You see MA is the boss and everyone has to do as he says.
But its obvious he hasnt a clue and wont appoint someone who could actually help us as it would mean he has to be told whats the right thing for the club.
A good manager wouldnt touch us with a barge pole,as a good manager wouldnt take the shit MA deals.
MA wouldnt take,in his eyes, being bossed about.
He has a god complex.

I’ve said all along I don’t mind an owner who makes mistakes or an owner who tries but get’s it wrong.
I really don’t like an owner who does things which clearly go against what is best for the club and deliberately sets out to under achieve and doesn’t strive to be the best we possibly can.
Being the best we can is key, not demanding league titles/champions league, but we certainly should be demanding that we do the best with the money we have.

We are an advert he is trying to keep cheap.
The footballs a side note in as much as he thinks he can make money on the players, the actual club isnt really anything of note to him other than the cost he thinks hes owed.
Its obvious to anyone its going to end badly,i just hope we can make it out the other side but atm we are doing a Leeds.

I’ve heard a few say he is a good coach, not a manager…so maybe he can do some of the work just not put it all together, he might need direction.
For me he has been poor other than at boro and at twente the first time, the rest of his career has been terrible really.
I just think he is a manager who wants to play possession football for the sake of it, there is no real purpose to the play.
Just my opinion of course, but that’s what I think of him.

It annoys me though. The club makes plenty of money these days, he doesn’t need to use his own money, just use the money he spends in a much better way really.
He makes so much from SD that he doesn’t need to penny pinch with newcastle, he doesn’t even take money from the club so why can’t we just spend what we have in a positive way on the right stuff.
He could still has his big billboard of a club but it would perform better and he’d have happy fans as well as something nice to watch when he turns up.

But like I say, this comes from Ashley. He could hire a better manager easily, he could buy better players for the money he spends, he could have a better director, he could get a better scouting network…..he could do so much more without really spending a great deal more.

Comment #73It really won’t take many more “setbacks” with a win record of 2 in 13 to see us relegated though will it ?
Setbacks are also the stepping stones to the Championship.
There is a difference between blind optimism, hope and realism.
Is a GD of -12 – almost one goal a game just a blip ?
Or do we have serious underlying problems which are not being sorted ?

I think people were just hopeful…..they wanted a manager who could maybe try to play a brand of football they wanted to see.
Pardew wasn’t suited to the players we had, nobody expected miracles (I would hope) with a change but maybe had somebody who could get a little more from them.

True.
I think people blame the manager as the last few years, whoever we have had, has come out and said they are happy withe squad and them say they are aiming top ten or whatever.
Yes you need to put a positive spin on things, but they also need to be realistic instead of putting excess pressure on players and building expectations on fans.

Comment #80Under MA he wont leave untill we are bleached bones of a corpse.
If someone wants to buy us he will ensure he robs the prospective buyers hence putting them off.
He will make sure every penny is squeezed before he goes smug in the knowlege of his profits, its what he does.
Its bully tactics from a very self centred greedy man,its down the shitter no matter what for us as its got one outcome.
Just check his actions to the tatty shops he runs and how he deals wit hopposittion to them.
