McClaren Determined This Will Not Happen To Newcastle Fans

12:07 pm, Saturday, November 21st, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 31 Comments

We dare say there´s been a few long faces of Newcastle fans this year which has to be one of the worst  years ever for Newcastle United – at least as far as the results go.

We had a poor end to last season when we lost nine of the last eleven games and we haven´t done very well this season with just two wins and six defeats in the first twelve games which have earned us just 10 points.

Steve McClaren – looks like he spotted a few long faces

Steve McClaren is trying to turn things around and we hope he can – and he´s talked today about not wanting to see long faces among the fans:

“We can’t have long faces around here. We are in football for the togetherness and the banter. It’s about the work on the field.”

“It is serious and we are professional and we do have a big responsibility at a big football club. But you have to enjoy your work. Leicester seem to be doing that and it is showing on the field.”

“That’s how we should go about our business, enjoy it but be effective.” “I didn’t realise that it was January that we last won away from home.”

The one before that came in November so that’s two wins in one year!”“They are hard to play against and hard to beat, they are good on the break and very quick.”

“That takes some doing actually. Maybe at Bournemouth we wouldn’t have won that game five weeks ago. We weren’t playing well but we fought for their lives.”

Those who wanted rid fo Alan Pardew got their wish at the end of last year but its been little short of a disaster at Newcastle since he left.

Wins are what we need and wins will definitely put the smiles back on the faces of Newcastle fans.

So we need a win today at home to Leicester and if we can play somewhere near our best then that’s not impossible.

And that would be the third win in five games for us.

‘We can’t have long faces round here..’
SM speaking in clever code – he means Vardy isn’t playing for them?

    Attack Toon, Attack Attack !!!!!

Not guilty your honour. I was just paying tribute to blog legend Dennis Twice.

I think the team pretty much picks itself. The key today is hard work and keeping the ball on the ground until the wingers cross it. When we play the way Macca wants us to play, we can cut through teams at ease. When we launch the ball long, it falls apart. We can beat anybody when it clicks, it just isn’t clicking as often as we’d like. We won’t know about Vardy until the last minute so he probably plays. Even if he does, he won’t be 100% so we need to let him know he’s in a game. Slow him down a bit. I’ve gone 2-1 on my super6 so my chances of winning a million have probably been reduced. Just can’t put us down to lose I suppose. ?

    Bobbybee,
I left a post earlier mentioning Bobby Charlton, it came out Booby, either a phone error or I’ve got mild dyslexia!

Afternoon gents how are things lately on the blog?

I’ve got mixed feelings for today’s match, I want us to win but the way LC have been playing I can see us losing this on, if we play we did against Bournemouth we will be punished but against other teams we could win this.

    2-1 each way for me.

Vardy will be playing today, according to reports, his MRI scans came back clear showing no damage, and he was training yesterday, so he’ll play no doubt about it.

Thing is though he will have ten other players with him and together they are a formidable team. We will most definitely have our work cut out for us today.

So now it all comes down to which Newcastle team turns up today, even at our best it will be tough for us, and we are not often at our best.

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness was taken into hospital on Friday.
The 62-year-old, who also played with distinction for the Reds, is receiving treatment in a hospital in Bournemouth, close to his home in Poole, Dorset.
No details of Souness’ condition were immediately available.

    Jib

I think people only suspect you are drinking when you comment because at the drop of a hat you are always so inexplicably abusive and always lacking in good grace.

Maybe your parents didn’t bring you up to be polite and well mannered. There may be a host of justifiable reasons for your social inadequacy and rude, sullen disposition and ”please will someone notice me” routine.

That pattern of behaviour would perhaps fall in line with someone who does not drink responsibly.

Concerned re today. Hope thauvin isnt on from start – too slow to track back well. 2-2 or 2-3, sorry guys.

  • 13 Jib // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:15 PM

Souness was only 38 when he had a coronary bypass , I would guess it is something to do with his ticker .

  • 14 Mister Tuff // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:17 PM

Cannot see that Vardy will not be playing – he’ll be trying for the record.

3 points for us today, come on the toon.

  • 16 JDdubai // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:26 PM

Fairly sure the starting 11 will be the same as the last match – no real contenders to replace any of them tbh.

Hope for the best today, no reason we shouldnt be able to score against them, just can we score more than they will???

At what minute do you think we will get toonbrother’s first Colo-abuse?

  • 17 Jail for Ashley // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:31 PM

    JDdubai,
As soon as the Curly Coiffured Coward is named in the team !

  • 18 mindshaft // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:38 PM

we should get a draw at least – Leicester have done well and Vardy is on a similar run to the one Cisse had when he joined toon – it will end soon so let’s hope it’s today
hopefully mitrovic can start banging a few goals in

Has it been snowing in Newcastle?

  • 20 Average_Contents // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:47 PM

    Ron

The groundstaff are clearing it off the pitch mate so I’m guessing yes 😉

  • 21 Bambams // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:49 PM

I would like to see Lascelles get some game time. I have only seen glimpses of him and yes he is a long way from the article we want but he must be a better choice alongside Mbemba than Colo.
    Need points today

  • 22 Ron Knee // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:52 PM

    A_C
    Is that the first snowfall?

  • 23 sing in the corner // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:56 PM

    Bobby @ 5
Let him know he’s in a game..ha ha. The old ‘reducer’! 🙂 Tiote will bulldoze through him no doubt…

  • 24 Essex Geordie Bill // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:58 PM

I’m hoping to see one of you fine techno-wizards come up with link.

Just hope we can keep ten men on he pitch, there are is every possibility that someone will chop Vardy down at some point!

  • 25 Essex Geordie Bill // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:59 PM

    Key board lag again!! 🙁

  • 26 sing in the corner // Nov 21, 2015 at 1:59 PM

Would love a win today, but i’d take a draw right now!

  • 27 firebug666 // Nov 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Dummett, Sissoko, Tiote, Anita, Wijnaldum, Perez, Mitrovic #nu

  • 28 firebug666 // Nov 21, 2015 at 2:02 PM

Vardy is in their starting 11

  • 29 sing in the corner // Nov 21, 2015 at 2:02 PM

Tiote booking sweepstake: I’m going for 16th minute..

  • 30 JAMSHA // Nov 21, 2015 at 2:03 PM

    Really

    Let me think for sec.

Colo would have been MotM last week if not for Rob Elliot’s display. Over 200 starts in the PL , 40 caps for Argentina.

    AGAINST

Jamaal , no starts in the Prem yet !

You don’t want to listen to buffoons like Jail , who calls the club captain a coward , keep some sense of perspective
