Newcastle After Belgium International Striker

11:37 pm, Saturday, November 21st, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

The Sunday People is reporting that Newcastle have joined the race for 22 year-old Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi who is now at Marseille after joining the French club in the summer of 2014 from Standard Liege.

Michy was born in Brussels and is having a good season at Marseille having scored 9 goals in 16 total appearances this season.

Olympique Marseille's Batshuayi celebrates after scoring against Lille during their French Ligue 1 soccer match in Marseille

Michy Batshuayi – 22 year-old Belgium International

While at Standard Liege for three seasons in the first team he played a total of 120 games with 44 goals and 13 assists.

The striker is also being tracked by Arsenal and Spurs and he will not come cheap as the price tag on his head is said to be £22M, but Marseille apparently want more than that.

Batshuayi is eligible to play for the DR Congo national team because of his parents, but in March os this year he elected to represent Belgium.

He made his international debut for Belgium in March in a Euro 2016 qualifying match against Cyprus and replaced Christian Benteke in the 77th minute in that game.

Newcastle need strikers and defenders – simply because we have scored only 13 goals in 13 league games and in seven of those game we have failed to score.

And we have already conceded 25 goals in those 13 games so we have difficulty scoring goals and difficulty in stopping them going in.

That’s a real problem at both ends of the pitch.

Newcastle may need to bring in as many as four good players in January if the season is to be turned around and if big money needs to be paid for the right players then so be it.

It’s looking like by the turn of the year Newcastle will still be in or around the relegation zone.

The news is that Marseille have put an amazing £35M valuation on their star, supposedly to ward off clubs – but it´s probably also because three Premier League clubs are linked with him.

Comments welcome.

    Ashley Out!

  • 2 Tsunki // Nov 21, 2015 at 11:46 PM

Well I don’t know what manxpie is trying to dig for but here’s my stance. Ashley is taking us all for fools, and we are humouring him. He runs nufc as a cash funnel to hawk his wares and cream off profit from our merchandise, and soak up PL TV money. Carr, Charnley are tasked with buying sufficient ability to float us in the league. it’s a myth that it’s their sell on value, their purchase price and wages are correlated to revenue retained by staying in the PL. Everyone else is a puppet, a yes man or a mouthpiece designed to deflect us all from the primary directive, SD profit. Pardew was a blatant incompetent whose results waxed and waned with the players brought in or disposed of, nothing to do with his ability – he has none, it’s the incumbent players who get results not him. As a patsy he needed to go to illustrate that he was a symptom of this business model. And he went, although of his own accord, and carvers appointment highlighted just how vacuous the whole charade was. The focus now is not on managers but on the real culprits, the cynical bean counters who tow Ashleys line. it’s been shown that the manager in our model is a patsy, a front, a plausibly deniable hapless scapegoat. The real villains were there all the time, and will continue to do this thing while they think they can get away with it.

We’ll be buying championship players if any ready for next season not spending 20 odd mil on quality who’ll go back over once mixed in with the rest of our lazy flops.

  • 4 Tsunki // Nov 21, 2015 at 11:52 PM

I think it will be different this time. We will struggle in the championship, we don’t have the core of players with enough pride in the club to either play for us or even stick around.

  • 5 Our Toon // Nov 21, 2015 at 11:55 PM

I don’t think pace or lack of pace is the issue, we are set up so poorly and we refuse to press the ball and win it back up field. I said it after the Swansea game and will say it again Janmaat is a flipping liability, he’s worse than Colo in my eyes!! Everyone was worried about Colo pre game but it was the disappearing full back who was the root cause of our problems.

Watford aren’t blessed with good players or with pace, yet Mr Flores has them compact and defending really well as a team along with a pressing game!! By inviting pressure we get mugged off most weeks whilst others… they are now playing the new modern way!!

Bloody hell skunki! Was that hard to write? Because it was hard to read…

  • 7 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Nov 22, 2015 at 12:00 AM

    @Our Toon

Thing is we do actually have pacy players Sissoko , Perez and Wijnaldum are rapid when they get going but what other teams do is they crowd them out and dont let them get one on one whereas we just let Mahrez and Vardy go one on one with our defenders all the time

Our midfield got bossed by Drinkwater and Kante who probably cost about 10 million combined so there are players who could make us tick available for decent prices

  • 8 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Nov 22, 2015 at 12:09 AM

Also no point signing this Batuyashi !! Hes already to established for us !

Time would have been to sign him in the summer along with Mitrovic or instead of us Mitrovic !

  • 9 Belfast // Nov 22, 2015 at 12:11 AM

Absolutely brilliant insult from Manxpie this evening by the way. You “Scunthorpe”

    Take a bow son haha

  • 10 toon kk // Nov 22, 2015 at 12:11 AM

    Our toon
it isn’t just how we set up, its our really poor work ethic, passing ability and poor fitness levels along with a loosing mentality

  • 14 Toon Tang // Nov 22, 2015 at 2:31 AM

Villa are fcuked good and proper, along with Scumderland and us. Get your money on that as the bottom 3.

  • 15 Sav // Nov 22, 2015 at 3:17 AM

‘We’ll just have to keep working hard’ is McClaren’s mantra. Why are we unimpressed?

  • 16 Our Toon // Nov 22, 2015 at 4:25 AM

I think we are somewhat fortunate this season, villa, mackems, Bournemouth, Norwich and even Swansea look piss poor along with us, we’ve played most of last season’s top 10 where as them clubs haven’t!! I don’t think we’ll get relegated but we will battle it like last season and win the battle.

On McClaren….he needs to go, there is very little improvement in this side and he’s got to take the blame for most of it. I was willing to give him time but the bloke has barely taken us 2 steps forward.

Plenty of unwarranted stick for mitrovic, some right old idiots certain fans are, the lad is 21 and has just joined a new league, he’s going to take time to settle as will the other new signings so give it time, the biggest shock is that we don’t even play to his strengths, the best cross came in when he was taken off today but he looked a little jaded compared to normal. Service is key and so are crosses

Except Booing at McLaren, Booo! Booo!

  • 20 The next Mike Williamson // Nov 22, 2015 at 4:59 AM

We buy too many players who think they’re too good for us and it is a struggle to motivate them to play for a lower team, especially one that is struggling. Wini, Sissoko, Tiote, maybe even Mitrovic, Thauvin and Janmaat all think they should be playing in Europe etc and truth is they probably could sign for a better team. Instead of badgering this Matayushi into coming to us and playing for a team he doesn’t really fancy, we should sign a few hungry players who would be delighted to play for us. Players like Perez (until he believes all the hype) or a few good championship players.

Saying that, we need to sort the manager out first. And we need to appoint a foreign manager or a progressive British one like Rodgers or Howe.

  • 21 Toon-Prodigy // Nov 22, 2015 at 5:06 AM

Until we have a settled side and style nout will change. It’s no good blasting through managers.

With the squad, it’s still early days, new system and coaches, culture. The signings were OK but im concerned about Mitrovic’s fitness and also Thauvin, he is not at the level we need. We can blame Carr but at the end of the day he, like all of our managers, has restraints from Ashley to work under. Im sure he would like better players through the door. The money we paid here though is bewildering for the lad and makes me think some side deal has been in place. It dosn’t make sense to me.

People forget they are only mediocre players, we should be mid-table at best with the squad we have. We will probably finish there.

No good turning on managers with the sh1te policies in place at this club.

As more time goes on here though, I’d rather Pardew got the 50 mil and had the chance to choose who he really wanted and got the chance to build something. He grinded out results with the sh1te we had against some of the best teams in the league. With a stronger squad im interested to see what would of happened.

But then again, we still have gaping holes in the squad after 50 mil, that just shows how hard the job in hand was for Pardew.

Until the squad is balanced and competitive why cry on about managers, we all know it’s Ashley’s policies which is hurting the club. The transfer blueprint is a joke.

  • 22 The next Mike Williamson // Nov 22, 2015 at 5:08 AM

Blaming Mitrovic (or any of our forward players) for not scoring goals is like criticising Barcelona or Bayern’s keeper for not making many saves.

    Prodigy
You raised some good points to debate and I liked to have a chat but I am sunked and my passion loosened at the moment. Better to say nothing more and keep a low profile.

that 11 players in the black&white strips yesterday were absolutely disgraceful sorry excuse of a footballers.

just wait for pardew’s men to dismantle us and give us a good mauling. just wait for it.

  • 26 Jail for Ashley // Nov 22, 2015 at 6:30 AM

    manxpie,
From last night, where on earth does it even hint that I feel sorry for Ashley in any of my posts, from my very first posts I have accused Ashley of lack of ambition and fought tirelessly with those that have insisted he wants success for the club. You and a few others make Pardew out to be the victim where the reality was he took an eight year deal which bought fully into the success free policy of the Ashley reign, can you blame fans for wanting that changed. Now we have another tarnished manager on the cheap trying in a last ditch attemp to save his reputation and willing to be another patsy to do so. We lived in hope that if Pardew went we’d get a FDB or Remy Garde type manager although in our hearts we knew we’d more than likely get another washed up manager. Now it has been proved without doubt that there is only one type of manager Ashley wants and he has to buy in to that doomed and flawed policy of theirs with a 70 year old conference manager pulling the strings. Nothings changed manxpie but this time I’m not going to scream Macca out because they just get on with it if they’re determined to sink the ship.

    Morning jesper

Yes, more hours of my life wasted yesterday!

I’ve been a supporter for many years – through some pretty dire periods, too, but at least, good or bad, the club behaved like a football club.

Now, NUFC’s primary function has ceased to be football. That’s what’s worrying!

So next week we will reach the magic 14 games. It’s not picture perfect of how it will all end, but you can get a real good picture of who the bottom feeders will be.

…and we are still among them!

  • 30 stuart no9 // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:00 AM

We were 2nd best to everything said macca . Listening to his post match interview I agreed to all he said , then a comment hat made my teeth itch ” we will be out on that training pitch Monday morning trying to put it right , MONDAY ? What the f”@K is wrong with tomorrow , Sunday ?? this wasn’t just a defeat this was a shocking display that any manager in the league would have said f@@k your day off . 9am kit on , on that pitch warming up . That is why macca has had to go . No idea what this means to the fans and his care free management policy . I would have had them back on the pitch half hour after final whistle and they would have stayed untill everyone made a personnel speech to apologise on tv for the horror show that is becoming all too familiar . DISGRACEFUL

  • 31 Black White Army // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:01 AM

people keep on going on about thauvin but i thought he was the only one who was direct and atleast tried yesterday. Wjinaldum was absolutely useless and couldnt make 1 pass. In all fairness it a was a shocking performance all round and im getting pretty sick of supporting this dross

  • 32 Ron Knee // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:08 AM

  • 33 The overrated Frenchman // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:17 AM

So what happens if we lose the next two games, which you have think is probable. Surely Ashley has to make a move. How can he have any confidence in the people he has entrusted to run the club? Is he the only person in England who can’t see how dire things really are here? If he sits on his hands and does nowt it will be an insult to supporters everywhere – not that we are not used to that.

  • 34 stuart no9 // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:23 AM

Overrated — if Ashley sits on his hands and does nowt , he will lose about £400M in tv rights over the next 3 years and all his free advertising . It’s up to him . He calls the shots .

  • 35 Jail for Ashley // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:35 AM

Do you honestly think Moyes will come in and do a job, he won’t come within a hundred miles of us, we’re in too much of a state to get some mid table French or Dutch manager in. There is a ceiling to our ambition and despite what Keith Bishop says that ceiling is tenth with every player up for sale.
Sitting here watchimg MoTD AND Lpool tearing MCity apart is breaking my heart.

  • 36 Jail for Ashley // Nov 22, 2015 at 7:37 AM

    Stuart,
That comment about training on Monday got to you, the one that said we’d come off a good run after that debacle last week really got to me.

Would Klopp have considered coming here if the money and blueprint was right.

  • 38 nufcursed // Nov 22, 2015 at 8:04 AM

ed stop putting out these ridiculous articles!
no chance of such a poor team getting such a player!

  • 39 nufcursed // Nov 22, 2015 at 8:09 AM

    also i’ve said it a 100 times

    if we play
    janmaat
    coloccini
    dummett
    anita
    sissoko

we will never play decent football!
only ones who deserve a place are:

    elliott
    mbemba
tiote?(is better than what we have)
wijnaldum?(not as good as many think)
    perez
mitrovic?(a striker that needs the service but is not getting any)

  • 40 The overrated Frenchman // Nov 22, 2015 at 11:09 AM

stuart no.9. Exactly. The ball is firmly in his court. That’s what I can’t understand. Why would you let such a valuable asset just wither away, which is clearly what’s happening. Wouldn’t you want the best quality people available to oversee and protect your investment if you can afford it? And obviously Ashley can, yet he chooses not to. It just beggars belief to me that he seems to think you can run a PL club in 2015 as if it was an afterthought, a small aside in his business empire. How many times will we have to be relegated before the penny drops with this boorish imbecile?
