We have not watched the game against Crystal Palace again since the game ended on Saturday afternoon and the reason for that is whenever possible we don’t like to put ourselves through unnecessary mental pain and suffering.
And Newcastle fans have had enough pain and suffering this year being served up by both the Newcastle players and the Newcastle club this year.
Steve McClaren trying to watch video of the Palace game?
But on the other hand, it seems really appropriate that our players were made to sit through watching the game at Palace.
The video of the game was played for the first team squad earlier this week and nobody was allowed to leave the room.
And let’s be straight about this – that’s severe punishment indeed for the Newcastle players after yet another dreadful display.
The rumors are that a number of players asked to be excused to go to the bathroom (several times), but McClaren showed no mercy and refused the requests.
Many of our players could be seen with their heads in their hands – peeping though to watch some of the mistakes they made during the game.
One or two even asked to be excused on religious grounds – but that got short shrift with McClaren.
Those are the rumors coming through in any case.
🙂
Last week Steve read the riot act to the players and that didn’t work – in fact – it made absolutely no difference – and if anything we were worse at Palace than we were against Leicester.
And yes – that’s saying something.
So this week he’s not laying into the players too much as he tries to find some way of motivating them.
It’s really a two-stage process – the first stage is to try to get them to want to play – and then the final stage is to try to get them to play well.
Steve seems to be having the same problems that John Carver had last season – the players don’t want to play for him and it seems they couldn’t care less.
If this current state of affairs cannot be turned around in a couple of games against Liverpool and Tottenham – then Mike Ashley may be forced to call time on Steve’s tenure at the club.
That’s in order to save Newcastle from another relegation – which would be a complete and utter nightmare.

Comment #81I think it’s gone beyond being a Mclaren hater, I don’t think the crowd will turn on him either, he looks like a dead man walking anyway

Comment #82He’s also quoted in saying we’re like watching a car crash and there’s nothing he can do about it. Applying the brakes would be a start

Comment #84I have to say I normally look forward to going to home games because normally you think if we have a good day and turn up we could just scrape a win. However I’m dreading Sunday because you just can’t see anything but a heavy defeat – our only hope is if we play out of our skins and Liverpool don’t turn up because they are over-confident.

Something has obviously happened at the club in between the Stoke and Bournemouth games, it genuinely looks like they have given up!

The transfer policy has not changed much. Yes there has been a increase in investment but the core principle is the same. Sign players who we can sell for a huge profit. All young and inexperienced PL players. The reason I imagine we don’t sign defenders(not including the odd bad one) is because their sell-on value rarely will match a midfielder or striker.
Again I’ll stress, Tony Pulis should be offered a bumber deal to keep this club up.

Comment #93Maybe scrapping the bonus might spur our bunch of mercanaries into action, I’m sure the return of form against W Ham last year was financially motivated.

that was a great line up you did but i’d remove jesper and JFA.
owner JFA- certainly has a huge demand and I can’t think of all bloggers he seem to react most angrily at those posting things he doesn’t like. so if you get a manager acting like jibs or welsh he’ll certainly get in there face and warn them.
manager jesper- some might have thought catchy would have been the one i’d go with but when looking at posts jesper himself looks like the most consistant talker about managers and although he is against ashley I think he has the greatest belief of a decent one still getting appointed. Rotanta can be his assistant
