These Players Unlikely To Join Newcastle In January

9:15 am, Thursday, December 10th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 10 Comments

There has been news in the local papers over the last couple of days that Newcastle may be interested in bringing Arsenal striker Joel Campbell and 30 year-old former right back Mathieu Debuchy back to Newcastle.

Mathieu is having the same problem his best pal Yohan Cabaye had when he left Newcastle for PSG – he cannot get his game and is on the Arsenal bench these days and gets a substitute appearance now and again.

Mathieu Debuchy – on the bench at Arsenal

Newcastle have been linked with Joel Campbell since the World Cup in Brazil but we cannot see Arsene Wenger letting him go with Arsenal having so many injuries at the moment – and the Costa Rican International is fit.

Joel has scored two goals in 12 appearances this season for the Gunners and will be going nowhere in January.

Mathieu is another story and if either Daryl Janmaat or Mathieu could play at left-back a loan deal for Debuchy in January could have been a good deal for both Newcastle and the French International.

Mathieu is not in the French squad at the moment and he will be keen to get first team football for the rest of the season, but that’s unlikely to happen at Arsenal unless 20 year-old Spanish U21 International Hector Bellerin is injured.

Debuchy has played precious few times for Arsenal – 22 times since he joined eighteen months ago from Newcastle.

Mathieu was out last season for a long periods though injury – two different ones – an ankle injury and then a shoulder injury and both kept him out for three months.

Newcastle are fairly well off at right back with Dutch International Daryl Janmaat and Kevin Mbabu as a back-up, but it’s at left back where we are weak.

In fact we were surprised Kevin wasn’t given  a start last Sunday against Liverpool, but after the great win Steve McClaren will in all likelihood start the same team at Tottenham on Sunday and local lad Paul Dummett will keep his place at left back.

We cannot see Joel Campbell or Mathieu Debuchy joining Newcastle in January.

What do you think?

Not another ‘look who we won’t sign” article.

It doesnt matter in which laguage it is. It is their opinions, and they all watch Milan games…I certainly dont want Honda here, where you want to play him? He is best as number 10 and we have enough players in that role, better players and younger ones…Rather buy one decent winger Redmond, one CM Xhaka,Tielemans (I think first one is unrealistic) one good strong CB Shawcross (Unrealistic), Matip,Vestergaard (more realistic) and LB J.Willems (I dont know how he is with his injury) and maybee one of Batshuayi or Berahino (if MA want to spend ? )

just putting it out there, but Debuchy is twice the player Janmaat is!
Don’t get me wrong, I like janmaat going forward but defensively…. shocking!
At feyenoord and for holland he played right wing back in a 5-3-2/3-5-2 which probably covered his defensive inabilities better.
Debuchy is a top right back. He’s lost his place to a young guy who looks like he might be a world class rightback in the making and could play there for Arsenal for the next 10 years. Interestingly I’m pretty sure Bellarin is the quickest player in top speeds in Europe?
If he’s on loan it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go where Cabaye is purely because Pardew likes players he knows, he’d still be London based and Palace aren’t the strongest in his position. Also, Palace have pretty much guaranteed themselves they stay up and get next years jackpot tv deal. Wouldn’t surprise me if they threw a bit of money at a player or 2! Seems like they’ve got a chairman/owner that wants them to go as high as they can. Realistically if they add to their squad then theres no reason why Europe is out of the question.
I’d take Campbell. Looks good wide in a front 3. Has work rate, pace, trick or 2…

We also won’t get Ozil and Giroud from arsenal.

I doubt messi will want to make the switch as well.

Hopefully we just buy a big strong brute CB who can command and lead. Also a quality left back.

If we had that it would probably tie us over for the season.

Obviously would like a good winger and striker but not essential at the minute if we are playing with a narrow formation.

    “Jail for Ashley // Jib
Without Google your ”footy knowledge” could be written down on the back of a South African Bantam stamp!”

Philately will get you nowhere 🙂

@toonfan – Xhaka is a great shout but I’d bet money he goes onto join Bayern or Dortmund in future. Love this player though! Be just what we need!
Reckon we’d stand a chance at getting Tielemans as first team football would be on his agenda but surely the price would price us out? Quite like Praet from Anderlecht too.
Personally think those are all players we’d see in the summer though?
For the winter window, my guess is a centre back like vestergaard or Matip and a striker on loan and that’d be it. Guessing the striker on loan would have zero premier league experience too! Going to throw it out there and say someone 3 or 4 places down the pecking order at a decent club. Simone Zaza?

They’ll keep Cissé until Summer then take young Armstrong on pre-season.
Also I get the feeling they want to give Manu Riviere another chance after his operation.
