Can’t believe the way Mashers was cheering when we scored, why the fcuk does he not want us to be successful ?

  • 2 Jail for Ashley // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:23 PM

Or was it because Perez’s value just went up 2M.

But I do think you’re right.

Apart from a weakly marked corner though, Spuds looked a bit namby pamby up front today. A bit like Liverpool. Looks like SM is going for the wearing down tactic.

    Jail

Especially against his own team, Spurts.
We just cant trust the fat cnut

“After 45 minutes you never expected to lose the game. Thursday [in the Europa League] is not an excuse, there is nothing to say about Thursday. It is not about physical condition. We gave the ball away and needed more control. We conceded two easy goals and that is why we are disappointed.

    Respect to Pochettino

What I said before the game

    54Slank // Dec 13, 2015 at 11:42 AM

Against Spurs a win for us is not out of the question if you believe in ‘horses for courses’.

In recent years we have done well even if the recent win at Bournemouth was a rerun of our game at Spurs where luck (their bad luck) played a big part.

Also, I believe Spurs haven’t lost this season and the law of averages, if not wishful thinking, says they have to lose sometime.

If the lads can maintain the same momentum, intensity and fitness levels as they had against Liverpool a shock result (to all those outside and many inside Tyneside) will be on the cards. Of course they could fail to turn up and that wouldn’t be a surprise to anybody !

  • 16 catchy in norway // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:28 PM

i have backed Shteve from the start, you can see the players are playing for him, and he seems to have a plan to, the plan is keep it tight, and hit them hard in the second half

    firebug

it’s neither really all he’s cheering because we’re now out of the drop zone, even his football brain knows we’ll get a win against villa, now the manager can be allowed to remain and we could still survive with the current squad.

  • 19 Tsunki // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Slank I think that encapsulates the thinking ( maybe wishful) before the game. Problem is of late it’s been total guesswork which Newcastle team would turn up. I don’t hold with anyone saying they knew we would win, atm I’m just grateful it’s happening, and that I’m awake.

  • 20 Jail for Ashley // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Well I went for the win although I got the score wrong, would have taken a draw before the game mind.

  • 21 catchy in norway // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:30 PM

remember the first half they said we had a pass completion of 62% , the lowest of any team this year, thats a sad stat

  • 22 Slank // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:30 PM

Perez’s goal was fantastic as he was running at pace and had to chest the ball down and hit it immediately but keep it down on target from an angle.

My MOTM was Steve McClaren. Two very good substitutions at the right time.

  • 23 toonking // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:31 PM

    catchy

it’s like pardew really only in reverse, pardew was about the first half crap second half mac is poor first half good second half.

  • 25 U.S Magpie // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Its funny we win and it looks like only few are happy and instead of talking about the amazing result we just had, we are bashing the hierarchy. I for one saw a Newcastle Team that didn’t give up which is something we have not done for over a year, one down and come back and win. Hats of to the lads for the efforts to try and make our season better. Yes we still need to bring in some players in Jan and hopefully although we just one two games in a row this still happens. Howay the Toon!!!

  • 26 Ron Knee // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Steve McClaren: “We haven’t turned the corner yet, we need more performances like that. We have been inconsistent.”

Imagine if it had been the King speaking!

  • 27 Jail for Ashley // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:32 PM

    catchy,
Wtf are you on about, we have just came off the back of the three worst consecutive performances in our 123 year history, don’t get me wrong here, two great results but not exactly total football.

  • 28 JamesToon // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:34 PM

    Lads i am in ecstasy

  • 29 Thump // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:34 PM

@Ron Knee: The good thing about Pardew is that he genuinely believed his own bull. If he believes I’m sure he’d be fairly convincing in the dressing room as well. Obviously, there came a time when even the players were thinking “for fsck sake man, shut your gob”, but for a time it worked.

McClaren’s more honest tact is refreshing, and hopefully it’s more effective than outright lying to the team.

  • 30 JamesToon // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:35 PM

    U.S magpie

Totally agree, we are finally starting to see a bit of character, passion and determination. Three/four weeks ago soon as tottenham scored they would have scored another few but we stayed with them and fought back and deserved the win imo

Erm it ain’t the last half season just yet.

  • 34 JamesToon // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Next week, against villa we need to show that we can really take control of a game by the scruff of the neck.

  • 35 Pottsclock // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:36 PM

I actually think I prefer Elliott in goal to Krul. His distribution is far better. With Krul when he distributes the ball out he has to kick – can’t throw far – and the ball usually just comes straight back.
It’s gonna be interesting next season…..

  • 36 Belfast // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:39 PM

    toonking

not at all, p45 never had control over any game at any point, for me, p45 road his luck and totally relied on bits of individual skill rather than good team play.

right now, i can see what players are on the pitch for, what they are meant to be doing, its still early days, but we are improving. confidence is the big thing for me,, shteve is giving them it back by giving them some freedom to play on the pitch..

last point, if this was a p45 team, we would have either drawn that or lost it in the last few mins, P45 would have shut up shop from 60/70 mins, expecting us to lose, shteve went for it,, well done shteve, he should get massive credit for that alone

  • 39 toonking // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:41 PM

    us mag

with such a consistent amount of negative weeks it’s became a habit, even this victory doesn’t come without being able to question why teams like watford, scums and bournmouth were all poor.

  • 40 mindshaft // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:41 PM

fantastic effort in the 2nd half, thought DeJong and Cisse were doing okay but fresh legs when Spurs were tiring made all the difference
Happy as Larry with six points from last two games – now bring on Villa and Everton

  • 41 Ron Knee // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:42 PM

    Thump

I’ve been critical of McClaren’s defeatist body language, but I can’t fault his comments.

  • 42 Nufc-83 // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:43 PM

Most people would have seen me posting for a long time Elliot is the better all round gk than krul. I still don’t think Eliott is a top too gk though and we could get an improvement over both.

Desperately need wingers, Lb CB and shelvey/cabaye type cm in Jan. Would take two out of the four in Jan and be happy enough.

  • 43 anthc // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:44 PM

Happy as a pig in turd! Good display by the lads however, could it be the curse of the mid week europa league that give us the edge?
We finished alot stronger than spuds and deserved the win imo and out of the bottom 3. Onwards and upwards!

  • 44 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:44 PM

On current form Elliot is producing better than anything Krul has for a few years. Glad Steve is staying grounded now instead of coming out with the “we’ve turned a corner”, “things are looking up” soundbites, they only lead to complacency – the players have to have the mindset their work is never done and they can always improve, that’s what brings wins. Just focus solely on the next game each week, give it your all as a team, we’ll be fine if we do that. Have to nail Villa next.

  • 45 toonking // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:46 PM

    catchy
generally speaking we did just as good against these big teams during pardews era and lost against a large number of teams points were expected if mac is really proving to perform better then I want more good results and play against teams around us because it’s those teams who’s fixtures are most important not teams in the other half.

  • 46 catchy in norway // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:47 PM

    Jail for Ashley

i can not argue with those 3 games,, but it should also be pointed out that the couple of games before those 3 we played amazing but lost.

the point is that the players find belief in what they are doing. and lets not forget, we got smashed for 6 by man c, but for the first 45 we were by far the better team with the better chances, it only went wrong for 25 mins,

it is getting better, the coach has a plan, he can change things, but it must be the hardest thing in the world trying to motivate rich players with very low confidence, the confidence had been smashed out of our club by P45, ( playing wise )

  • 47 Jib // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:47 PM

    Mindshaft
    I hear what you say
    But
Like all quality players SdJ seems to have loads of time and with him returning to fitness we are not as one dimensional and predictable as before.

  • 48 Nufc-83 // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:50 PM

We need proper wingers and make a final decision on who we play in the no10 role. Gutted about sdj as like him as a player but not suited to fast pace of prem. So sissokho or gini need to go in there with Perez up top for me.

  • 49 geordieboy83 // Dec 13, 2015 at 6:51 PM

Catchy I’ve gotta say it’s refreshing to see our manager try and win, instead of pardew taking cisse off to put a left back on for damage limitation. Mind you with only 1 fit left back at present I’m pretty sure Alan would’ve had an anxiety attack by now

Great result, team spirit, and all round effort
