There have been reports that Newcastle are interested in signing central midfielder Jonjo Shelvey of Swansea in January but Newcastle have little to no chance of signing the England International.
Swansea for the first time since they were promoted back in 2011 are struggling in the league and are currently in 17th position with 14 points and they have just sacked their manager Garry Monk who has been at the club for eleven years as a player (center-back) and manager.
Jonjo Shelvey – not coming to Newcastle
Who could have seen that coming after Swansea were 8th top last season and made a decent start to the season with 8 points form their first four games – including an easy 2-0 win against Newcastle at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea is a very well run club by Chairman Huw Jenkins but it seems he is having trouble recruiting a new manager with reports that both David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers have turned him down for the Swansea job.
The news is that Jenkins is trying to get former Sunderland manager Gus Poyet – who is currently on a short-term deal for this season at AEK Athens.
Swansea will bring in a new manager soon and the very last thing that manager will want is to lose his best player – who is Jonjo Shelvey.
So there really is very little chance of Swansea being daft enough to let the former Liverpool and Charlton midfielder leave next month.
He would be a good acquisition for us but there’s no way he will be coming in during January.
Maybe we can eventually replace Yohan Cabaye in the summer?
Jonjo has played 92 times for Swansea with 10 goals and 18 assists since signing on in the summer of 2013 from Liverpool for around £6M – and he has 6 caps for England.
What do you think?

I think Jonjo Shelvey would be a top signing and a real sign of ambition and intent. However i think swansea will ask for £14m minimum, and around that i think is a very fair price, considering he’s 23, english, has excellent vision and passing, he’s the exact type of player to replace cabaye.
I think we also need a good defensive midfielder that physically competent for the position, a Victor Wanyama type, however looking at Swansea, i think Jack Cork is quite an underrated player, always puts a shift in and keeps his game simple.
We need a commanding centre half to pair with mbemba who will win aerial battles, Ryan Shawcross, Joel Matip or Ashley Williams would be decent imo. A left back capable of both defending and attacking, Jetro Willems, Ben Davies or Andrew Robertson would be good i think. Also a decent winger, i’d try out Townsend on loan but would rather we get someone like Nathan Redmond.
However its unlikely we’ll get any of these players in january has not many clubs will want to sell mid season

Comment #43LCBP. Aye. Never forget or forgive ” we’re having a party when the Geordies go down”. Always knew the chance for revenge would come around and it looks like this might be that time. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Comment #44Villa game is our chance to really try and send a message to the fans that we are capable of beating teams around us, by dominating, controlling the game.
Not trying to get too ahead of my self, but if we can make it 4 wins in a row by beating villa & Everton (both very much winnable as we are at home) then i think Mcclaren/Cathro/Simpson can start trying to reintroduce the possession/pressing game i.e. playing out from the back at goal kicks, playing the ball on the floor a bit more, as the players will have much more confidence

Comment #45James toon, to be fair, I can’t see Shelvey going for anything under 20 million – minimum. When you look at what other English internationals have gone for, it’s almost a case of name your price.

Comment #48James, the Villa game is also a chance to reduce our goal difference. We play our best football when we play it on the ground and Villa look wide open to such attacks. The Everton game will be much harder, but with a vocal backing of 52k I don’t see why we can’t beat them.

Comment #49If we can bring in some experience in January we should finish midtable comfortably.
Anyone see the difference in mitrovic he has lost a bit of weight and rightly so, he is usually blowing out his arse after 70 mins. Good to see him sorting himself out.

Comment #51Personally I think the Villa game will be the harder of the two, They will put everything into this game as they will look at us as one game where they can get a result.
We don’t handle pressure very well, and I can see us getting a lot of that from Villa.
Everton play a more open game, and look to create space, this could work to our advantage and give Sissoko and Wijnaldum a chance to run at them down the channels.
Both games will be tough, but I think the Villa game will be the tougher game.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, a bit of craic, how on earth could I impose a fine, what did I say to upset you this time, you just seemed to come at me thick and fast for some reason.

Comment #53I have to say I was slightly ill watching Ashley and Charnley hug after the winning goal by Perez. We have 4 wins from 16 matches Mike. Keep that in mind. We do look to be improving however. Two good wins in a row. Move Cisse on in January and bring in a very good CB and striker.

Comment #58Everton have Lukaku firing on all cylinders. Even if Aston Villa play with an ultra work-ethic, they still do not have any players that can do damage. Alan Hutton bombing down the wing and putting the ball into the stands is about as good as it gets for them.
The difference between the Villa and Everton squads is huge. I know which team I fear more.

Comment #62G2..I agree Cisse needs to be moved on and Colo needs upgrading. And we really need someone else than Tiote to safeguard the defence and free up the other midfielder to do some damage further up the field!
…by the way Ashley and Charnley makes everyone sick!

Comment #72Sadly some things no longer work in the team and it’s not necessarily the players in question who are at fault. But the shape and style of the team that is fashioned around them
We haven’t had any kind of reliable delivery of crosses into the box and piercing runners to serve Cisse, hence the man who scored for fun looks Los these days. The bludgeoning forward juggernaut style suits battling forwards
We no longer have creative, tight passing midfielders to take the ball from a wrecking ball like Tiote and make something happen in a forward direction. We are awash in midfield with harrying ball winners who pass the ball sideways and back until it gets hoofed up the wing or Sissoko finds a gap to stride through. Shame.

Apparently we are tied 3rd place with Man City for conversion rate. That would suggest the side needs to create more chances. Thank goodness McClaren didn’t take a leaf out of Allardyce’s book and start parking the bus, as some of the so called experts were recommending.

Anyway Jonjo what can u say about the man who got his lad out on the Internet? I’d love to say I’d hate him to come to us cos I really think he is a rather awful person…but I would actually end up living him ala Reverend Barton
Unfortunately Swansea sacked mr arrogant and that’s who he fell out with so unlikely he will be on the move owners went with current player power rather than former

Comment #80Fail, please read this very carefully, as you seem to have a problem with what i write. I don’t like Ashley. I don’t dislike Ashley. I couldn’t give a toss either way about Ashley as he’s just another owner. We have had a myriad of owners taking money from the club – he’s nothing new. When he does something that annoys me, I have been known to get angry. When he does something positive, I’ve been known to appreciate him. But in general, I don’t gice a toss either way. Unlike you, I am able to control my obsession. To me, he’s just another owner. So, you might say things – nasty things – about Ashley that I agree with. Right now, he’s the most likely to bring us success because the rest all failed. If he turns out to be full of shyte, I will say so, because it will be true. If he does invest, good on him, because it will be true. If we got a new owner tomorrow, I’d feel exactly the same way because it’s a business and it attracts sharks. Is that really so hard to understand? No, not unless you’re as thick as pig shyte. I support my team, not the owner, or board, or any other part of the club. The team is all that matters to me, regardless of who owns it. Just because at this moment I’m prepared to give Ashley a chance to invest in the team, I’m not alone. 50k others are the same. We dream. We hope. We generally get let down, but that’s football. I’m not sure you’ll ever get it, but that’s it in a nutshell.
