Premier League club Newcastle United are 18th in the list of Europe’s richest football clubs with Real Madrid first, just edging out Manchester United, followed by Barcelona and Manchester City.
Newcastle are one of eight Premier League clubs to make the top 20 and we are listed as being worth £222M.
Real Madrid are worth a massive £2,07B, with Manchester United are worth £2.05B, followed by Barcelona at £2.007B and Manchester City down as worth a paltry £2B – the top four clubs all worth over £2B.
And that’s only £0.07B – £70M – between the top four clubs in Europe – but what’s that between friends?
The results are from a study by the London School of Marketing.
Here are the top 20 football clubs in Europe.
Jacques de Cock from the London School of Marketing said the following
“This is such a golden opportunity for brands, as the target audience of footballers represents a very diverse and extensive range of joint interests that need to be satisfied.“
“Interestingly, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are owned and controlled by their fans.“
“Despite or maybe because of this, they seem to be able to compete, if not out-compete other competitors, who are owned by bigger faceless conglomerates“
“Football remains the only real global sport with a passionate and faithful following. The European football clubs travel much better than US sports.“
“And the largest clubs have supporters in over 80 countries, making targeted campaigns in various regions a real possibility.“
“The future is bright for football-based marketing. Despite the recent events at FIFA the football brand itself has not been tarnished.“
It’s not clear what methodology was used by the London School of Marketing to arrive at these figures, but the figures will certainly include both assets and debts.
The Premier League clubs are likely to get richer as the new deal kicks in next June for the TV rights.
The news deal is worth £5.1B over three years compared with the current deal of £3B.
Newcastle should also get a lot richer – always assuming we can stay in the Premier League.
Maybe we can also build a top side one of these days?
Comments welcome.

Comment #46Newcastle may in fact be the worlds 18th.richest club, but they are no.1# when it comes to the worst management system, that and a shit side.
Perhaps Ashley should look at how Spurs run their operation, decent side, in the black and when their new stadium is complete, more bums in seats.

Comment #50Well it looks like the players got him sacked. Cue new manager and sudden revival of Chelsea side.
This “18th richest” thing is just another occursed statistic isn’t it? Actually we should be classed ” Tier 4″, where the first five, second five and the next six are tiers one to three respectively. We are in no way affiliated with the wealth of the first three tiers at all really. There’s a £100m jump between the likes Napoli ( above us) and Schalke. That’s a fair old leap that is.

Comment #56Kets…I think we are at a crossroad where experience and maybe even Brutish players are needed…not shipped out!
Long term I don’t really care about nationality, but we need a certain about do to rules about registration, but we also need British players (or home rule players) to help develop the young inexperienced players.
That list of your won’t do much there 😉
