Newcastle will need to let some players leave in the January transfer window – either permanently or on loan – as new players will be coming into the squad to strengthen it – so we will give ourselves a decent chance of staying in the Premier League this season.
Newcastle are weak at center-back and we expect a new center back to come in next month and assuming that happens then we expect Mike Williamson will be allowed to leave after six years at the club – with his contract running out in June.
Mike Williamson – will leave if new center-back brought in
Steven Taylor has been out injured with a hamstring injury since late August and in September he had a small operation to repair the damage – and he’s expected back this month – although that looks very doubtful now.
Steven’s contract also runs out in June and it is unlikely it will be renewed because of his poor injury record, but we expect the local lad to stay on for the rest of the season.
With the Achilles injury Steven picked up on New Year’s day against Burnley he has been available for competitive games only in August of this year.
Sylvain Marveaux has not even made the bench this season and we expect him to be moved out next month and some of our younger players like Shane Ferguson, Haris Vuckic and Gael Bigirimana are all out on loan at the moment and don’t have a future on Tyneside and could also be allowed to leave.
Gabby Obertan has been out injured since the end of September and is not expected back until February, so it may be hard to move the Frenchman out next month – with Gabby being injured.
Emmanuel Riviere is also out injured with a long term knee injury, but we expect that he will also be moved out depending on Newcastle bringing in another striker next month.
If we don’t do that – we expect Riviere to stay at the club and be allowed to leave in the summer.
So assuming we can get a top center-back and a top striker though the door next month we expect Williamson, Marveaux, Ferguson, Vuckic, Bigirimana and Riviere to be allowed to leave next month.
What do you think?

Comment #2I’d rather keep Obertan than sign Townsend.

Comment #3Completely Agreed. Townsend is going to be another flop and we’ll have same story written about him 2 years down the line.

Comment #4Riviere moved out in the next window, lol.
Tiote, Cisse, and Marveaux more likely. Anita also needs a new contract or replaced.

Comment #5I wonder if this persistent Andros Townsend link has anything to do with Harry Redknapp.
Ashley and Redknapp know each other through Joe K.
Redknapp was heavily involved with the development of a young Townsend when at Spurs and took him on loan at QPR while managing there.
Probably a conspiracy theory too far !

Comment #6I can’t see why they shouldn’t leave next month Ed.
It would free up plenty of squad spaces.
That would mean no barrier to spending the next £50m instalment of our “three windows” plan.
It’s still just about feasible to squeak a top 10 finish if we strengthen the squad sensibly now.
As we are a club with a painstakingly mapped out plan for success, its absolutely reasonable to expect this is what will happen next month, and it is exactly what I expect to happen.

Comment #7One hopes they can move some of these players. The Physios are bored and need some new bodies to join the club so they get some new type of injuries to treat.

Comment #8Good decision I think. Time to improve our squad and move forward. Just feel a bit sad if Saylor really have to move out..
