Newcastle United are interested in Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, but we never thought Newcastle would have much chance of getting the English central midfielder through the door next month, but there’s some potentially good news for Newcastle that the Englishman now wants to leave the Welsh club next month.
The Sun is reporting that Shelvey wants to leave Swansea City in the January transfer window after an altercation with hard driving Chairman Huw Jenkins.
Jonjo Shelvey – wants to leave Swansea next month
Jenkins is busy trying to bring in a new manager to the club at the moment after he fired Garry Monk and he hasn’t been successful yet, with the latest target being Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, who is also wanted by Italian club Roma.
It’s being reported that former manager Brendan Rodgers and former Everton manager David Moyes have already turned Jenkins down for the job.
Jenkins has reportedly singled out Jonjo Shelvey about his lack of commitment to the club and it seems the outcome is that the 6 times capped England International wants to move in January.
Newcastle, Manchester City, Tottenham and West Ham all said to be interested in the 23-year-old central midfielder.
Jonjo will want to make the England squad for the Euro Championships in France next summer, so a move to City or Tottenham could see him on the bench too much.
So Newcastle may even have a decent chance of getting him next month – always assuming the Sun report is accurate.
If he is available next month we would expect Newcastle to make a determined effort to sign him, since we haven’t had a real play-maker since Yohan Cabaye left us almost two years ago.
