There´s news in France today that Newcastle are trying to sign Henri Saivet the 25 year-old Bordeaux winger and maybe that´s why the Newcastle scouts were at Bordeaux last Sunday – for the 1-1 Ligue 1 draw against Marseille – to watch the Bordeaux captain in action?
This is the first time to our knowledge that Newcastle have been linked with the 5 times capped Senegal winger who can also play in central midfield.
He has played for all the French Youth sides from U16 through U21.
Henri Saivet – Newcastle after Bordeaux winger
Newcastle are said to be after forwards in January – a winger and a striker – so that fits with Newcastle wanting to bring in a new winger.
We have been linked heavily with Andros Townsend of Tottenham – who has plenty of experience in the Premier League – but he would cost more in terms of both the transfer fee and his wages.
The Bordeaux captain has been playing in central midfield all season, so that makes him a versatile player who could bring some creativity to the Newcastle side.
Other Premier League clubs said to be interested in him include Everton, Stoke City, Swansea City and Southampton.
Saivet has played 26 times for Bordeaux this season in all competitions with four goals and is said to have been tracked by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr this season.
The player was born in Dakar, Senegal and moved to Bordeaux way back in 2002 from Senegal when he was just 12 years old.
He has played 177 games for Bordeaux with 23 goals and 12 assists since making his debut way back during the 2007–2008 season at the age of 17 in a league match against Lens.
Henri Saivet has good pace, and is known for his dribbling abilities and his powerful all around play.
His contract at Bordeaux still has 18 months to run so it would be a straight transfer if Newcastle can get their man next month.
Either as a winger or central midfield player – maybe this 5´ 9″ Senegal International could fit the bill at Newcastle?
What do you think?

Looking forward to the game today, if it’s on; either football or water polo depending on the weather.
I would have thought that the surface may have been covered like the do for the cricket to keep the water off, Guess Ashley just didn’t have enough rain jackets in stock to do the job.
Hope the match goes ahead, and more hopeful we claim the points.

Kind of wish you’d give it a rest about AP. He himself had record losing streaks here as well and before he left we were in the middle of yet another appalling run of form.
Our problems run way deeper and are far more endemic than replacing one mediocre english manager with another like Mclaren.
AP had far more spent on players in their then prime when he was here than he has had at CP.
AP didn’t work here, WHU, Charlton or Soto, but he did at Reading and is now at CP, end of.
AP is an average manager but has found his niche for now at CP, but to keep holding him up against the likes of failed managers like carver and SM as some kind of harshly treated messiah is insane.

Actually mate they were good players, but they were either injured or suspended, so I think they are wrong players that you have picked there to be honest.

If the rain keeps coming (forecast to rain all-day) could be a re-run of the Villa game – bit of a lottery.
Will be desperate to keep game on for the TV money

we keep being linked with townsend a winger that doesn’t cross because he is to selfish not sure if he even can cross, sissoko gets more goals and assists than him
so buy ur reckoning cos he is English he will be better
buying from abroad is ok if u buy the right, cabaye tiote jannmatt mbmeba wiji more or less hit the ground running its about the scouting and paying the right money to get the right player

There is more chance of Ashley renting SJP as a camp site than there is of him paying for a retractable roof.

Comment #21If you care to listen because this is a “boys club” where ppl ignore new comments on the blog, the reason why ap was not liked was his inept mentality to change to plan b when the chips were down. When had a few signings the following season when we finished 5th to “kick on” ,he was shown up as with previous clubs he managed. It was so evident this was to happen but Ashley being extremely naive to the epl ,just accepted llambias’s stupid decisions to award a huge contract. The rest unfolded , need I say no more!

NUFC Board????
We have a head coach who has more failures than successes.
A chief scout who again brings in more failures than successes, and mediocre players at best.
We have a club ambassador that only remembers his name because people shout it at him all day.
And leading them and us to oblivion is the clubs MD who was promoted from the post of secretary.
This is not a board of directors this is a recipe for disaster, and it’s in full swing!

Comment #24So McLaren can’t guarantee things will get better in 2016. So what is he doing being the manager of our club after all it’s not exactly a task to promise a better improvement than 3/4 bottom of th P L. Seriously though, I know this is supposed to the time of good will but McLarens comments effectively give us no hope when the opposite should be true. Sack him now and let’s hire a manager with some idea of what courage and pride means.

Comment #25Welsh- Season greetings. At least tuff is consistent – he’s a miserable abusive grumpy old goat all year around He increasingly reminds me of someone banned from his local pub and library so he comes on here to attack those who don’t share his point of view. He doesn’t realise we’re fortunately living in democracy. A whinger an Alan Sugar scornful type figure. Those type of individuals can sap the energy from you if you let them. With a reliant rather than a Rolls.
He ticks all the boxes on Ed’s not list. A constant moaner. The Ghost.

His major failing with the club is he is trying to run it the same way he runs his tat shop business, buy cheap and sell on for a profit, but the players we buy are not stitched together in some third world sweatshop, where profit margins are always high.
The cheap option will never work in football if you want to stay in the premiership.
I think he does want to stay in the premiership, (that’s where the money is) but he employs bigger idiots than himself in football terms to get the job done.
His failed transfer system needs to be scrapped now, and a proper fit for purpose director of football brought in to sort out the new transfers.
Oh and sack the board, replace them with a proper football and businessman mix.

Comment #27Stan Anderson – long time no hear, unless I’ve just missed your posts lately. I agree from many seasons ago we’ve never managed to start at the ‘ don’t concede’ point and work from there. We could have ground out some draws even though less satisfying, would have made for a safer run up these last few seasons. Defence is our perennial issue, but more important is a slip shod midfield which has hardly ever worked properly.

This is typical of the mischievous argument fuel that Welsh supplies, as soon as a spark of controversy is present, he heaps kindling on it with his little snappy comments about his hero, his ‘ other’ club – whatever irritates and annoyingly distracts. You’re not the blog joker Welsh, never were. You’re the annoying little kid who stands behind the playground bully urging him to hit someone. I’m sure I’m not alone in tiring of you due mainly to your miscreant performances of late.

Comment #35Ian, your Righteousness, I see you’ve graced us with a sermon on another blogger. Mr T may be the club hammer rather than the tack hammer, but I think his visible irritation is felt by all when people choose to revive a session of insults, stepping from the shadows to take a swipe then retreating as if injured by the reply. I share his irritation, if not his style. And I think many others do
I think the best testament (pun not seen until I wrote it) to your input and the validity of Mr T’s ire is that you continue to verify his claims by being noticeably part of a group that pops up and chimes in together on deliberately irritant subjects for the mainstream blog. It may make good reading for some, but I think in the main the constant referrals back to previous managers and the ” never had it so good” mantra is deliberately annoying.
So don’t display bewilderment or injury at his angry retorts, after all, you seeded, watered and cultivated it. If you don’t like it, change the record.

Comment #37Ho easy is that all some journalists do, Google the player stats and junior international credentials of the French leagues then stitch together a series of lazy stories about French – loving nufc being after them? I suppose we deserve it in many respects due to Carrs desire not to travel too far at his age, and the downturn of the Euro means there’s been a few bargains in the rummage sales.

Comment #39There has been constant rain since yesterday afternoon and it’s going to continue till late tonight. Under normal circumstances I suspect they might have had an earlyish pitch inspection to save the away fans setting off but bearing in mind that the match is televised they’ll no doubt go ahead even if it’s a swimming pool. Bearing in mind the game last week, I don’t think it will suit us at all.
