Newcastle Reported After New Target In France

9:03 am, Saturday, December 26th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 109 Comments

There´s news in France today that Newcastle are trying to sign Henri Saivet the 25 year-old Bordeaux winger  and maybe that´s why the Newcastle scouts were at Bordeaux last Sunday – for the 1-1 Ligue 1 draw against Marseille – to watch the Bordeaux captain in action?

This is the first time to our knowledge that Newcastle have been linked with the 5 times capped Senegal winger who can also play in central midfield.

He has played for all the French Youth sides from U16 through U21.

Henri Saivet

Henri Saivet – Newcastle after Bordeaux winger

Newcastle are said to be after forwards in January – a winger and a striker – so that fits with Newcastle wanting to bring in a new winger.

We have been linked heavily with Andros Townsend of Tottenham – who has plenty of experience in the Premier League – but he would cost more in terms of both the transfer fee and his wages.

The Bordeaux captain has been playing in central midfield all season, so that makes him a versatile player who could bring some creativity to the Newcastle side.

Other Premier League clubs said to be interested in him include Everton, Stoke City, Swansea City and Southampton.

Saivet has played 26 times for Bordeaux this season in all competitions with four goals and is said to have been tracked by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr this season.

The player was born in Dakar, Senegal and moved to Bordeaux way back in 2002 from Senegal when he was just 12 years old.

He has played 177 games for Bordeaux with 23 goals and 12 assists since making his debut way back during the 2007–2008 season at the age of 17 in a league match against Lens.

Henri Saivet has good pace, and is known for his dribbling abilities and his powerful all around play.

His contract at Bordeaux still has 18 months to run so it would be a straight transfer if Newcastle can get their man next month.

Either as a winger or central midfield player – maybe this 5´ 9″ Senegal International could fit the bill at Newcastle?

Where Will Newcastle Finish This Season?

    Morning World

Looking forward to the game today, if it’s on; either football or water polo depending on the weather.

I would have thought that the surface may have been covered like the do for the cricket to keep the water off, Guess Ashley just didn’t have enough rain jackets in stock to do the job.

Hope the match goes ahead, and more hopeful we claim the points.

That’s what I said to some people on here last night Ed.

  • 3 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:40 AM

Anyway, never heard of this guy before.

  • 4 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:42 AM

Why dont this club stick to players in this league that’s got experience, not hard really now is it.

  • 5 WestOzMag // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:44 AM

No game today. Put the covers over it.
    NUFC shit pitch oout!!!

    Ed

Kind of wish you’d give it a rest about AP. He himself had record losing streaks here as well and before he left we were in the middle of yet another appalling run of form.

Our problems run way deeper and are far more endemic than replacing one mediocre english manager with another like Mclaren.

AP had far more spent on players in their then prime when he was here than he has had at CP.

AP didn’t work here, WHU, Charlton or Soto, but he did at Reading and is now at CP, end of.

AP is an average manager but has found his niche for now at CP, but to keep holding him up against the likes of failed managers like carver and SM as some kind of harshly treated messiah is insane.

    welsh

like barton, butt, owen, saylor, duff, given, etc. that worked well.

  • 8 WestOzMag // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:50 AM

Record shows what he’s like RH. Next season will be found out

  • 9 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:50 AM

Instead of worrying about the pitch when it’s raining, why don’t all clubs have a open/closed roof.

  • 10 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:53 AM

    Retonda

Actually mate they were good players, but they were either injured or suspended, so I think they are wrong players that you have picked there to be honest.

If the rain keeps coming (forecast to rain all-day) could be a re-run of the Villa game – bit of a lottery.

Will be desperate to keep game on for the TV money

  • 12 WestOzMag // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:55 AM

Because welsh it’ll be glorified like American football played on Astro turf

  • 13 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:56 AM

Im only going to mention this once because some will kick off, the only reason why so many hated AP because he couldn’t beat our main rivals, it’s as simple as that.

  • 14 beermonkey // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:57 AM

    welsh

we keep being linked with townsend a winger that doesn’t cross because he is to selfish not sure if he even can cross, sissoko gets more goals and assists than him

so buy ur reckoning cos he is English he will be better

buying from abroad is ok if u buy the right, cabaye tiote jannmatt mbmeba wiji more or less hit the ground running its about the scouting and paying the right money to get the right player

  • 15 firebug666 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:57 AM

    Welshie

There is more chance of Ashley renting SJP as a camp site than there is of him paying for a retractable roof.

Don’t worry lads we will win today, the guys have swapped their football boot for flippers.

  • 16 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 9:59 AM

But at least the games won’t get called off 1 hr before kick off when fans especially away fans arrive, I wouldn’t want a wasted journey after a 4 or 5 hr drive.

  • 17 toon22 // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:01 AM

Just what we need, another French gamble in a possition were not needing.
You can see we need a CB from space.

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:03 AM

im not saying because they are English they will be better, French league haven’t worked, struggling a bit with the Dutch, one player so far this season has been bright and that’s Gini.

  • 19 cyprus // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:05 AM

    Happy holidays all.

Apparently there’s this player in the french league: 6th top scorer, very trim and fit, experience in the PL, breezes past players.

    Check him out Ed 😉

  • 20 JP...from The Rock // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:05 AM

Another French unknown! We will never learn. Were’nt we meant to biy British this time around!? This NUFC board is a joke.

  • 21 WestOzMag // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:07 AM

If you care to listen because this is a “boys club” where ppl ignore new comments on the blog, the reason why ap was not liked was his inept mentality to change to plan b when the chips were down. When had a few signings the following season when we finished 5th to “kick on” ,he was shown up as with previous clubs he managed. It was so evident this was to happen but Ashley being extremely naive to the epl ,just accepted llambias’s stupid decisions to award a huge contract. The rest unfolded , need I say no more!

  • 22 firebug666 // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:14 AM

    JP

    NUFC Board????

We have a head coach who has more failures than successes.

A chief scout who again brings in more failures than successes, and mediocre players at best.

We have a club ambassador that only remembers his name because people shout it at him all day.

And leading them and us to oblivion is the clubs MD who was promoted from the post of secretary.

This is not a board of directors this is a recipe for disaster, and it’s in full swing!

  • 23 WestOzMag // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:23 AM

Just what I said firebug Ashley as good a businessman as what he is is totally naive to the epl and will penny pinch when and wherever possible

  • 24 banjax // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:31 AM

So McLaren can’t guarantee things will get better in 2016. So what is he doing being the manager of our club after all it’s not exactly a task to promise a better improvement than 3/4 bottom of th P L. Seriously though, I know this is supposed to the time of good will but McLarens comments effectively give us no hope when the opposite should be true. Sack him now and let’s hire a manager with some idea of what courage and pride means.

  • 25 Ian Toon // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:31 AM

Welsh- Season greetings. At least tuff is consistent – he’s a miserable abusive grumpy old goat all year around He increasingly reminds me of someone banned from his local pub and library so he comes on here to attack those who don’t share his point of view. He doesn’t realise we’re fortunately living in democracy. A whinger an Alan Sugar scornful type figure. Those type of individuals can sap the energy from you if you let them. With a reliant rather than a Rolls.

His major failing with the club is he is trying to run it the same way he runs his tat shop business, buy cheap and sell on for a profit, but the players we buy are not stitched together in some third world sweatshop, where profit margins are always high.

The cheap option will never work in football if you want to stay in the premiership.

I think he does want to stay in the premiership, (that’s where the money is) but he employs bigger idiots than himself in football terms to get the job done.

His failed transfer system needs to be scrapped now, and a proper fit for purpose director of football brought in to sort out the new transfers.

Oh and sack the board, replace them with a proper football and businessman mix.

  • 27 Tsunki // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:35 AM

Stan Anderson – long time no hear, unless I’ve just missed your posts lately. I agree from many seasons ago we’ve never managed to start at the ‘ don’t concede’ point and work from there. We could have ground out some draws even though less satisfying, would have made for a safer run up these last few seasons. Defence is our perennial issue, but more important is a slip shod midfield which has hardly ever worked properly.

This is typical of the mischievous argument fuel that Welsh supplies, as soon as a spark of controversy is present, he heaps kindling on it with his little snappy comments about his hero, his ‘ other’ club – whatever irritates and annoyingly distracts. You’re not the blog joker Welsh, never were. You’re the annoying little kid who stands behind the playground bully urging him to hit someone. I’m sure I’m not alone in tiring of you due mainly to your miscreant performances of late.

  • 35 Tsunki // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:50 AM

Ian, your Righteousness, I see you’ve graced us with a sermon on another blogger. Mr T may be the club hammer rather than the tack hammer, but I think his visible irritation is felt by all when people choose to revive a session of insults, stepping from the shadows to take a swipe then retreating as if injured by the reply. I share his irritation, if not his style. And I think many others do

I think the best testament (pun not seen until I wrote it) to your input and the validity of Mr T’s ire is that you continue to verify his claims by being noticeably part of a group that pops up and chimes in together on deliberately irritant subjects for the mainstream blog. It may make good reading for some, but I think in the main the constant referrals back to previous managers and the ” never had it so good” mantra is deliberately annoying.

So don’t display bewilderment or injury at his angry retorts, after all, you seeded, watered and cultivated it. If you don’t like it, change the record.

Ho easy is that all some journalists do, Google the player stats and junior international credentials of the French leagues then stitch together a series of lazy stories about French – loving nufc being after them? I suppose we deserve it in many respects due to Carrs desire not to travel too far at his age, and the downturn of the Euro means there’s been a few bargains in the rummage sales.

  • 38 Ian Toon // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:56 AM

Tsunki- We all have our favourites who can do no wrong. But sometimes we all do through a lack of emotional intelligence. I have made allowances for one individual for years on the grounds of not disrespecting older people.

  • 39 magpie6699 // Dec 26, 2015 at 10:56 AM

There has been constant rain since yesterday afternoon and it’s going to continue till late tonight. Under normal circumstances I suspect they might have had an earlyish pitch inspection to save the away fans setting off but bearing in mind that the match is televised they’ll no doubt go ahead even if it’s a swimming pool. Bearing in mind the game last week, I don’t think it will suit us at all.

I was party to one such exchange last night when several bloggers decided to gang up and have a go, I was a little drunk to be honest an normally would not engage them, but it’s Christmas as you say, and so I thought I would entertain them for a while.

I said earlier that I think we will win this one by a goal, and weather permitting come 7:30pm GMT we will all be happy chappies.

The thing that worries me most is our fitness, it will be heavy going today, and our players do seem to lack in fitness.

Westozmag – I may not be blameless in the blog duelling stakes but I feel it’s been a running battle to suppress the miscreants from taking over the blog, those who snipe and stab at other posters who make footballing or management or institutional observations bring pulled up with glee for accuracy, numbers, stats, grammar and so on. I don’t mind a bit of humour or leg pulling, and contending with others with gusto but it’s the constant bitching and old useless arguments that fatigue everyone. it’s bad enough the way the club has gone lately without some so-called fans spending their time tearing their fellows down.

It smells exactly like last week. Bore draw. Even though there were goals I’d rather watch paint dry

    Tsunki
I left because of the reasons given by your post and more . I had a laugh with fellow posters for ages but for some reason new posters came on and trolled. They formed a clan and have tried their upmost to disengage fellow posters. Got to the point where I said enough is enough. Hopefully the new year will bring a clean slate. We all support the same team right? Given we may have different opinions on formations tactics etc it’s the one club we live and die for! When fight each other?

As for the others, personally I will not be bullied off the blog, when you get decent posters like yourself it’s worth waiting for the posts.

It’s easy to ignore them and eventually they will go away or change their ways, (or that is the hope) Unfortunately sometimes they get a bit personal and that needs a response.

I hope you stick around mate, it refreshing to have you back.

Westozmag – it’s Utmost not Upmost. Ha ha see what I did there sorry I’m being the toe rag now. Or is that Tow Rag…hmmmmm…? 🙂

I agree on the lack of quality in this week’s game but mostly due to the weather and our approach to it. I think players are well aware that cold rainy conditions are famous for muscle strains and pulls, so both sides will be wary of conditions for more than just sliding and late tackles. I hope it dries out enough and we finally get to show some confident movement though.

  • 56 firebug666 // Dec 26, 2015 at 11:31 AM

It might be because our scout is too old and frail to make such long haul journey’s, or maybe Ashley won’t pay the ridiculous air fair.

Aye we’ll swoop alright; swoop, miss the target and go crashing into the ground!

Carr seems obsessed with wingers – ffs we’ve got about 35 of ’em already.

We need to shore up the defence so we stop leaking goals by the dozen! A quality striker and a solid LB and CB are priority.

But the defenders won’t happen as there’s no money to be made on selling them. The myopic Muppets can’t or won’t see that if we stop shipping goals we’ve a better chance of avoiding relegation…… yet again!

The family of Newcastle United favourite Pavel Srnicek have appealed to Newcastle fans for help.

The 47 year old Newcastle cult hero was out for a run on Sunday when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The former United keeper remains in an induced coma as medical staff continue to monitor his condition at the Ostrava teaching hospital in the Czech Republic.

Via Pavel Srnicek’s own Twitter account, his family have appealed to fans to do their but to try and help Pav pull through.

His family have asked all supporters to sing ‘Pavel is a Geordie’ at half-time during today’s Newcastle v Everton match, with a recording then to be played to Pavek Srnicek at his bedside.

The message via Pavel’s Twitter account:

“Pavs family have requested fans to sing Pavel Is A Geordie at half time today so that it can be recorded and played to him at bedside.”

Like all Newcastle fans our thoughts are with Pavel and his family & friends, so sing it loud and proud at half-time.

We’re still standing around the relegation zone, we’re still not picking up points against the teams where points matter most and now he’s saying
“I can’t guarantee we will be better. We’re working and working and seeing the progress. More consistency needs to be there and we need a damn better second half then we did the first.”

“It’s vitally important.” “The experienced players are vital, and that’s whether they’re playing or not.” The likes of Mike Williamson and Rob Elliot, we like them around because their standards on the training field are very good.

seriously man he’s pardew number 2 and we’ll see him giving our bad transfer windows positive next.

    Wow!

The days of passion and pride in the shirt, playing football for the fans, and giving great entertainment win, lose or draw and being applauded of the pitch regardless of results.

Those were the days, now we are happy if one player shows a little courage, and ecstatic if we string two or more passes together.

“Newcastle United’s game against Everton is not understood to be in any doubt despite the heavy rain that has battered the region over Christmas.”

    Just a few minutes ago.

As I said welsh doesn’t matter who’s fault it’s all for the one cause nufc. The knit picking needs too stop. I’m no Jesus or anything but we’re all adults yeh?

  • 76 posada // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:24 PM

Seems we are going back to France etc for new players. Many on here putting the view that we should sign British players with EPL experience.
Trouble is we just don’t know how difficult it is to get players of that type. Not just the wages etc, but the dealings with agents and the like, as well as the inflated transfer fees.
If Townsend is a example of an established EPL player than I can see the issues.
15M and wages of what 70-80K a week.
    Therein lies the problem.

Laurent- I got a secret Santa gift of – Pavel is a Geordie it’s written
with Will Scott. It’s only recently published and I haven’t started reading. However chapter 18 – his best N’castle team: In 3-4-3
    Given or Harper
    Howey/ Albert/ Beresford
    Lee/ Venison/ Beardsley/Ginola/
    Cole/Shearer/Ferdinand
    Happy days with the entertainers.

In all fairness we are talking about players with Prem experience, not necessarily players who are English.

Other clubs in this league seem to manage ok regardless of the window that is open. I think the real crux of the problem is we will not spend the money unless it is as Ashley says “value pound for pound”.

Basically we will always choose the cheaper option, and that is what has decimated our club.

  • 79 SPRINGY // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:37 PM

  • 80 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:45 PM

Let’s try and name a Water XI given the situation today, lighten the place up:

    ______________Seaman______________
    ?????_____?????_____Saylor_____Bridge
    Beckham_Drinkwater_Flood__???????
    __________Riviere___Kanu

Despite al Riviere’s misses, still don’t think he’s managed to top Kanu’s effort, when he put it over the bar from a yard out. Lethal partner…..ship (sorry)

  • 81 Mag52 // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:48 PM

For me we’ve a tough one on our hands today.
Everton have some top players who will click sooner or later, hopefully not today.
I’ve put this down as a draw.
    HWTL.

dont think the arguments will ever stop on here….i try not to get involved..rather talk football…when pardew was here, there were those for and against him, which brought its own arguments but hes gone and it still rages on!lol….not that he’s the sole cause of the arguments by any means and al never tell anyone to stop, not my place, but at some point moving away from certain volatile issues is the best thing….but like i said dont there will ever be an end to it

  • 83 Mag52 // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:52 PM

    Hail.

    Dean Pooley. Defender, Ebbsfleet United.

  • 86 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 12:58 PM

Mag52 – he can go in until somebody suggests a better replacement

Springy – now that’s good thinking! 😆 Put him in for Flood istead, leave the RB spot open

    ______________Seaman______________
    ?????_____Pooley_____Saylor_____Bridge

    Tsunki

What did ed say, be civil, so grow up with your earlier post, it’s about opinions.

  • 90 Jib // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:02 PM

    Luke Waterfall Lincoln City

  • 91 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:03 PM

Kanu miss for those that don’t rememebr – worst I’ve seen I think, literally was more difficult to miss than score.

  • 92 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:03 PM

    Rotonda

I knew you was going to bring that up, so is it just our team that’s gets hammered in a match, no it happens to every team.

  • 93 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:04 PM

Besides it could be worse, could be a man utd fan.

    1-0 down.

    Ha ha ha

  • 94 SPRINGY // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:07 PM

anyone think van gaal might be for a pedalling soon with mourinho available?

  • 95 firebug666 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:07 PM

    Welshie

    Just two things mate.

    1. If it’s just about opinions then shouldn’t you accept Tsunki’s opinion instead of telling him to grow up.

    2. Yes other teams do get hammered at times, but nowhere near as many times as we do, and at least they try for 90+ minutes instead of giving up after 5.

  • 96 Jail for Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:07 PM

    Stuart Drowning ?

  • 97 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:08 PM

Dunk – that’s a gem and a Saylo/Dunk partnership might materialise in real life yet, a smidgen of a chance.

    ______________Seaman______________
    ?????_____Dunk_____Saylor_____Bridge
    Beckham_Drinkwater_Parker__???????
    __________Riviere___Kanu

Subs: Banks, Pooley, Shaw, ??????, Flood, ?????, ?????

Waterfall a RB or LW Jib?

  • 98 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:08 PM

See guys doesn’t matter what team a fan supports, shocks happen with every team, how many so called small teams have beaten the top 5 sides this season.

  • 99 Jail for Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:08 PM

    Paul Mariner

  • 100 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:11 PM

    Ha ha ha

Easy happen to a big a team.

  • 101 Bri // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:12 PM

How about looking further afield for a change. It’s an absolute joke that we keep looking to the bloody French league.

  • 102 SPRINGY // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:13 PM

imo we need a cb and at least dm/cm this window minimum….at some stage mbemba or colo will get injured…unless they are thinkin mbabu or lascelles is good enough…but that still leave cm…this is the minimum

  • 103 Jib // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:15 PM

    Waterfall — 6’2″ utility defender

  • 104 SPRINGY // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:15 PM

  • 105 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:17 PM

    JfA

Drowning tickled me, can be a placeholder until a unaltered suggestion and Mariner can make for the bench:

    ______________Seaman______________
    ?????_____Pooley_____Saylor_____Bridge
    Beckham_Drinkwater_Parker__Drowning
    __________Riviere___Kanu

Subs: Banks, Pooley, Shaw, ??????, Flood, ?????, Mariner

    Woops! Dunk*

  • 107 Hail Wor Ashley // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:21 PM

    Springy

Scott Parker has that extra value of doing a good impression of a small boat with a broken rudder, with all the circles he used to go in.

  • 108 welshgeordie9 // Dec 26, 2015 at 1:32 PM

    How about Neil Shipperley.

  • 109 lesh // Dec 26, 2015 at 2:51 PM

    Posada

Of course Prem experienced English players are and will be expensive. They’re expensive and the money’s there!

Other clubs live in the real world and pay what’s needed to get the players they need and with next season’s hike in TV money’ll mean that players’, clubs’ and agents’ demands’ll increase.

But oh no, Ashley seems unwilling to acknowledge the inevitability of cost increases, the price one must pay to get players who quickly adapt to their new clubs.

He’d rather trawl foreign markets for cheap players and as a result, the Club’ll never see success on the field.

Greed obscures his vision and the fact that he has flunkies in the form of Charnley, Carr and Moncur to agree to his every thought, we will never win a raffle let alone a cup!
