With less than 48 hours since the last game against Everton, Steve McClaren will need to make some changes to the side for the game at the Hawthorns tomorrow afternoon against West Brom.
We’d like to see Cheick Tiote, Kevin Mbabu and Siem de Jong all brought in to get a start tomorrow.
Papiss Cisse is still out with a groin injury and Jamaal Lascelles is probably not quite ready yet to return to the bench.
Kevin Mbabu – will he get a start at left-back?
So this is the side that could start tomorrow in the 3:00 pm kickoff game:
Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Coloccini (c) Mbabu
Wijnaldum Tiote Anita Sissoko
de Jong
Mitrovic
Subs: Darlow Dummett Colback Gouffran Thauvin Perez Toney
We thought Dummett was again exposed yesterday in that first half, as he was left for dead too many times and he looked ponderous and slow at times.
Everton also seemed to attack more down their right wing where Dummett is not Premier League class and Gini Wijnaldum isn’t exactly the best at tracking back and helping out.
But after McClaren lavished praise on Dummett after the game, maybe the manager will keep him in the side – but he has to give Cheick Tiote a game.
As it turns out the Ivorian is just one card away from picking up five yellow cards and being suspended for one game.
What would your team be for tomorrow?
Comments welcome.

The five games up until the end of January, we should but won’t get at least 7 points. I would hope to get 5 but think it will be 4, any less points than that and we will be in the mire.

Comment #6Don’t we need to see more of Thaujam to decide whether he’ll make it in the Prem? Why pay all that money for him and then not play him much? We try to get all of our attack from Sissoko and Wij. It’s too much ground to cover. Bring them higher up the pitch. Mitro is starting to remind me of Carroll. He looks like a carthorse plodding around out there.

Comment #8Give Anita some recovery time for that knock and also Gini as we will need him fresh for Arsenal. Play Mitro from the bench probably for de Jong, or even Tiote if we are chasing the game. A central slot for Sissoko for him to prove that he can do the work required.

Comment #17Rubin Okotie an Austrian striker of African descent from 2nd division Munchen 1860 may not be as outlandish as we think.
Cisse (Freiburg) and Demba Ba (Hoffenheim) both came from unfashionable German clubs and were on fire almost immediately.

Comment #21Mitro even if fit, will likely struggle for puff after the hard fought Everton game on that heavy pitch. I hope he’s ok to start, and then Perez can come on when he’s knackered. Also, Thauvin to start, to swing them in for him on fresh legs.

Comment #26This season has been a hangover after the loss of Pardew and a legacy of his replacement Carver and 18 months of net negative spend following the loss of Cabaye. Even so McC is looking inauspiciously like the uninspired choice of manager most of us in our lower moments imagined he would be. If Newcastle don’t sign at least one good player in a key position this January, top left back for me, I expect the team to continue to struggle, and the fans to lose patience.

Comment #36Throw in Super Mac, Bellamy, Andy Cole, Robert, Asprilla, Ferguson. It’s an astonishing array of midfield and attacking talent we’ve had. Perhaps we really should have paid a little more attention to the defence.
Although I thought Peacock and Dabizas were pretty good.

Comment #38Thauvin has to start and we have to go to 3 in the middle as well
I would go for :
Elliot
Janmaat
Colo
Mbemba
Mbabu
Anita
Wijnaldum CM
De Jong CM
Sissoko RW
Perez CF
Thauvin LW
Means De Jong can drop back a little to pick passes and Wijnaldum can get involved more in the middle Mitrovic has a knock so I think Perez up front could work well
