This Could Be Newcastle’s Best Team For West Brom

9:00 pm, Sunday, December 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 66 Comments

With less than 48 hours since the last game against Everton, Steve McClaren will need to make some changes to the side for the game at the Hawthorns tomorrow afternoon against West Brom.

We’d like to see Cheick Tiote, Kevin Mbabu and Siem de Jong all brought in to get a start tomorrow.

Papiss Cisse is still out with a groin injury and Jamaal Lascelles is probably not quite ready yet to return to the bench.

kevin mbabu

Kevin Mbabu – will he get a start at left-back?

So this is the side that could start tomorrow in the 3:00 pm kickoff game:

Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Coloccini (c) Mbabu
Wijnaldum Tiote Anita Sissoko
de Jong
Mitrovic
Subs: Darlow Dummett Colback Gouffran Thauvin Perez Toney

We thought Dummett was again exposed yesterday in that first half, as he was left for dead too many times and he looked ponderous and slow at times.

Everton also seemed to attack more down their right wing where Dummett is not Premier League class and Gini Wijnaldum isn’t exactly the best at tracking back and helping out.

But after McClaren lavished praise on Dummett after the game, maybe the manager will keep him in the side – but he has to give Cheick Tiote a game.

As it turns out the Ivorian is just one card away from picking up five yellow cards and being suspended for one game.

What would your team be for tomorrow?

Eight comments and another post? Slow down Ed mate. 😆

What is an owner in any case? Nothing really, but a pinhead with too much money and no brains…..

    toonarmydownsouth

The five games up until the end of January, we should but won’t get at least 7 points. I would hope to get 5 but think it will be 4, any less points than that and we will be in the mire.

  • 4 GeordieTwo // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:07 PM

We’re going to remain in the mire Lindisfarne mate, because we have an owner who’s a pinhead with too much money and no brains.

Don’t we need to see more of Thaujam to decide whether he’ll make it in the Prem? Why pay all that money for him and then not play him much? We try to get all of our attack from Sissoko and Wij. It’s too much ground to cover. Bring them higher up the pitch. Mitro is starting to remind me of Carroll. He looks like a carthorse plodding around out there.

  • 7 Sazzer // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:13 PM

McClaren most likely isn’t going to make any changes.

  • 8 Lindisfarne // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:17 PM

Give Anita some recovery time for that knock and also Gini as we will need him fresh for Arsenal. Play Mitro from the bench probably for de Jong, or even Tiote if we are chasing the game. A central slot for Sissoko for him to prove that he can do the work required.

It’s us and Norwich battling it out for 17th place for the rest of the season unless Mashers does something really significant in the window.

  • 10 jimmysmith // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:18 PM

    Given

    Debuchey, Woodgate ,Collocini, Enrique

    Ginola, Cabaye, Gascoigne, Waddle

    Beardsley

    Shearer

Kev can be the Manager, and Bobby the Director of Football

    Bring back Shefki Kuqi Mashley!!!

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:20 PM

A young Colo mind jimmysmith mate! Otherwise a very tidy lineup you’ve got there.

  • 13 Vask // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:21 PM

My best team of my tenure as a supporter (1-5-1-3):-
    —————————–Shaka——————–
    —————————-Albert———————
    Lee—–Speed—–Gazza——Beardsly—-Ginola
    —————————–Tino———————–
    ——–Shearer———–Cole————–Sir Les

We want Kuqi!!! Boom, boom, boom boom boom!!
    Shefki Kuqi!!!

  • 15 GeordieTwo // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:22 PM

Bring back Shefki Kuqi and Nobby Solano!!! They’re not too old yet!!!

  • 16 Sazzer // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:23 PM

West Brom’ are dangerous at set pieces so I would probably go with De Jong and Mitrovic up front.

  • 17 Jib // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:25 PM

Rubin Okotie an Austrian striker of African descent from 2nd division Munchen 1860 may not be as outlandish as we think.
Cisse (Freiburg) and Demba Ba (Hoffenheim) both came from unfashionable German clubs and were on fire almost immediately.

  • 18 Jib // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:27 PM

    Sazzer
    Mitro is doubtful 🙁

  • 19 Vask // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:30 PM

I’d actually like to see SDJ and Perez play up top. reckon they could form a good partnership. Depends if perez has any legs left though.

  • 20 Vask // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:32 PM

I’d also like to see more composure in our short passing game.

  • 21 jimmysmith // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:34 PM

Mitro even if fit, will likely struggle for puff after the hard fought Everton game on that heavy pitch. I hope he’s ok to start, and then Perez can come on when he’s knackered. Also, Thauvin to start, to swing them in for him on fresh legs.

  • 22 Average_Contents // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:40 PM

HbA isn’t fit to clean Rob Lee’s or Pedro Beardsley’s boots !

  • 25 Average_Contents // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:46 PM

    On the bench

Pav, young Colo, Nolan, Cabaye, Robert, Les, Tino.

    Manager: KK

    DOF: Sir Bob.

    Owner: any cnut bar fatty.

  • 26 jimmysmith // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:52 PM

This season has been a hangover after the loss of Pardew and a legacy of his replacement Carver and 18 months of net negative spend following the loss of Cabaye. Even so McC is looking inauspiciously like the uninspired choice of manager most of us in our lower moments imagined he would be. If Newcastle don’t sign at least one good player in a key position this January, top left back for me, I expect the team to continue to struggle, and the fans to lose patience.

  • 27 Vask // Dec 27, 2015 at 9:55 PM

Aye I realised I forgot Nobby too late, I should replace Gazza with him, saying as I just missed Gazza in a toon shirt. Move rob lee into the middle.

  • 28 optimistic prime // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:01 PM

    Budgie
    Debuchy kilcline Dabizas Enrique
    Solano Lee Speed Sellers
    Beardsley Kelly

Subs, Pav Woodgate Barton Robert Gazza Sir Les Asprilla

Not the best team I’ve seen but my favourite in their positions over the years.

  • 35 Belfast // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:15 PM

I would definitely Sign a left back myself, but there’s no chance of it happening.

    MCclaren: I want a left back ?

Charnley: Colback can play there if needs be.

  • 36 jimmysmith // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:18 PM

Throw in Super Mac, Bellamy, Andy Cole, Robert, Asprilla, Ferguson. It’s an astonishing array of midfield and attacking talent we’ve had. Perhaps we really should have paid a little more attention to the defence.
Although I thought Peacock and Dabizas were pretty good.

  • 37 jane // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:23 PM

can we have some teams of worst players as well please?

  • 38 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:24 PM

Thauvin has to start and we have to go to 3 in the middle as well

    I would go for :

    Elliot
    Janmaat
    Colo
    Mbemba
    Mbabu
    Anita
    Wijnaldum CM
    De Jong CM
    Sissoko RW
    Perez CF
    Thauvin LW

Means De Jong can drop back a little to pick passes and Wijnaldum can get involved more in the middle Mitrovic has a knock so I think Perez up front could work well

  • 39 jimmysmith // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:29 PM

I suppose we have had a few duffers. What we’ve certainly had is probably the largest number of bang ordinary ones relative to club size in the history of English football.

  • 40 welshgeordie9 // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:36 PM

    My best and strongest lineup

    Hislop
    Carr bramble Dummett
    Obertan Colo Sammy Ameobi

    I forgot boumsong.

  • 43 Our Toon // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:39 PM

People seem to forget Perez managed 7 goals in 30 odd league games last season, mitrovic has 3 in around 9 or 10 games in his first season. Play thauvin in place of Perez amd get those crosses in!!

  • 44 jimiley // Dec 27, 2015 at 10:39 PM

Class is permanent and form is temporary. Our form has never been better this season but we have no class.

    ____given_____

    ____nobby____speed____gazza

3-4-3 might be a better formation mind as both CB are injury prone and of the two woody is the better one for sure so perhaps go robert as a LW.

  • 56 jayphoto // Dec 27, 2015 at 11:47 PM

@welsh – mike hooper, lionel Perez, John Karelse were all terrible keepers. Hooper is the worst that i can remember!
Daniel Cordone and Andreas Andersson would make a good forward line

  • 57 jayphoto // Dec 27, 2015 at 11:51 PM

    Actually… 3-4-1-2
    Hooper
    Marcelinho Cacapa boumsong
    luque bassedas Hamilton Cabella
    Maric
    Andersson Cordone
That is the worst ive seen

  • 58 jayphoto // Dec 27, 2015 at 11:56 PM

Best Line up ive seen based on their performances in a toon shirt
    Given
    Beye Albert Woodgate Beresford
    Solano Lee Speed Ginola
    Shearer Cole
What a team that would have been
    Subs
Wright, Peacock, Robert, Beardsley, Batty, Ferdinand and Quinn
Im not quite old enough to remember waddle and gascoigne at Newcastle

  • 59 Harley // Dec 27, 2015 at 11:57 PM

It makes sense to change the team especially around a heavily congested Xmas period, i mean its not as if Mclarens preferred 11 win every game is it? Mbabu would come in at left back, and when is young Aarons going to be fit, he is very delicate isnt he, but Mbabu n Aarons would be very good for me on that left side, sometimes things need shakin up.

  • 63 Blofal // Dec 28, 2015 at 12:42 AM

I don’t think they will risk buying a defender and trying to bed them into the team in the second half of the season when we are in a relegation battle.

Saying that if we picked up Shelvey, Townsend and Berahino I would be very happy.

That would be the minimum amount we need to complete with mid table teams. All those players appear available and are Premier League proven.

  • 64 The next Mike Williamson // Dec 28, 2015 at 4:01 AM

and bring thauvin on at half time for Sissoko or de Jong

we need to try something new but everyone knows mcclaren will opt for the same team with no threat from midfield and no wingers

    Ron
    Bloody hell, chin up fella!
Think we might get a 2-1 win today actually.. Mind you it’s gonna be down to the old will we turn up thing. Prime excuses not to are waiting in the wings.
Our foreign legion flops might be thinking all kinds of anti PL Christmas schedule grumpiness.
But I have to say in all seriousness hiking down to the midlands to play another game less than 48 hours after a tough 93 minute slog on a heavy pitch is absolutely insane.
It’s about time we had some common sense about the amount of games at this time of year. It does nowt but give even more advantage to the big money clubs who by definition have better squads available.
