Steve McClaren has just announced the Newcastle side for the second game in less than 48 hours as we face West Brom at The Hawthorns today in a game that kicks off at 3:00 pm.
The team is the same one that lined up against Everton on Saturday so no rest for any of the players.
Teams:
West Brom (4-1-4-1): Boaz Myhill; Craig Dawson, Gareth McAuley, Jonas Olsson, Chris Brunt; Jonny Evans; Stephane Sessegnon, Darren Fletcher (c), Claudio Yacob, James Morrison; Victor Anichebe
Substitutes: Anders Lindegaard, James Chester, Cristian Gamboa, Craig Gardner, Callum McManaman, Saido Berahino, Rickie Lambert
Newcastle (4-4-2): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback, Georginio Wijnaldum; Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Kevin Mbabu, Jamaal Lascelles, Cheick Tiote, Yoan Gouffran, Florian Thauvin, Siem de Jong
Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)
We’re a little surprised there is not room in the team for Siem de Jong and Cheick Tiote – who both need games – but maybe they will come in during the second half.
And a fit-again Lascelles comes in on the bench and there’s no room for Ivan Toney so Mitro’s ankle must be fine.
This is what Steve McClaren said on nufcTV about this game:
“We have to recover,” “It’s tough for the players but mentally and physically we’ve got to recover, we’ve got to go again.” “It’s a big test on Monday; I’m very, very interested to see how we react after the Everton game.”
“Do we take the belief and confidence from our performance? Do we take it into Monday’s game, which is a massive game?” “Like Robbie Elliot said before the Everton game, we’ve got two games in three days, we’ve got no excuses: let’s go.”
“I feel so, so sorry for the players, because they gave everything.” “They were magnificent, especially in that second half, and didn’t deserve to lose – maybe didn’t deserve to win, but didn’t deserve to lose.”
“It was a terrific second half, a great advert for football, and I think the crowd showed their appreciation at the end, which was magnificent.” “If we carry on like this – performances, attitude, the way we fight for things – we’ll have a better second half to the season than the first.”
There are almost as many fans think we can win this game as think we will lose it.

Starting colocinni is tantamount to sending off a defender in the 1st minute of the game
So unfair to the other players

Sack McClaren? Don’t be so damned stupid man.
Sack him to be replaced by whom? Mourinho? Van Gaal?
Wake up to the reality of life under Ashley.

I’ve tried turning the table upside down and read it while doing a head-stand – it still looks the same!

Comment #99Playing with Colback is like playing with ten men. He’s so absent in all aspects of the game. The weakest link in our team for me.

Comment #108I don’t understand why we dont play Thauvin and put Sissoko or Gini in the middle. Colback & Anita/Tiote is not cutting it in the center midfield.
The next Mike Williamson

Comment #109Anita has been playing out his skin (average) but at least if he’s injured we won’t be playing with two players who contribute zilch going forward. Oh wait, Tiote is fit again. Normal service resumed.

Comment #113We’re all over the place! Feel sorry for Anita has been playing well of late. Now McLaren will never drop Colback who has been very poor. We need a strong techincally gifted playmaker in the middle of the park.
