Why is Wini absolved? He’s been terrible (as well), as the commentators pointed out.

What’s a matta with Perez? My ex-favourite player is terrible too!

  • 2 Rotonda heights // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:02 PM

he’s always played out of position is why.

  • 3 MacToon // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:02 PM

“I thought we started very well”, wonder which match he was watching?

  • 4 almondrichie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:03 PM

    @rotonda heights

i agree i am not saying colback and dummet was better in any way…after seeing the score sheet i was gutted for thauvin and mbabu not playing…all day i was expecting that steve would surely bring in thauvin and mbabu….
but at the same time except mbemba and coloccini all others were equally liable for the loss today….

and usually when a new manager is apoointed the spirits of the fans go up and atleast i hope with that confident we might stay up…the atmosphere here at the club is like one in the graveyard…need to change that…..remember mackems changing a manager every year half way through the season and surviving…thats what i am asking for….survival is enough with new manager

  • 5 ochytoon // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:05 PM

Did Steve watch the same game as me. West Brom were far better than us. Blaming pens not being given or saying that Darlow should have saved it doesn’t matter in a game where you’ve been dominated. It was inevitable they were going to score, they were the far better team.
We shouldn’t have even been happy with a point from this as West Brom have been awful recently.

  • 6 Llort muw // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:06 PM

    Clueless comments from Mcclaren there.

  • 7 manxpie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:09 PM

Rotonda Ok then Wat about Pearson then he started that run or maybe o’leary he had a good season once or maybe the Ipswich or reading managers that had great seasons
your problem is that you jump on instant success
case in point Mbabu who would also be out of position btw
Leicester are a well run club
Southampton are a well run club in fact most prem clubs are well run clubs
us, villa and the scum aren’t and look where we are!

  • 8 ochytoon // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:09 PM

It gets to a point when you can’t keep saying “the performances are there but we’ve been unlucky.” If it happens every once in a blue moon or for a couple of games then yes, it is a tad unlucky. But it’s been this way all season and quite frankly it’s glaringly obvious that it’s because of Steve’s tactics. We allow every team to attack us and build momentum whilst hoping we can counter. But 9/10 that isn’t going to work because the opposition will grab a couple of goals or dominate us causing our heads to drop.

  • 9 SPRINGY // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:10 PM

    from previous
its not the scoreline..i think most would accept a 1-0 if we had created chances and just been unlucky(like everton second half) but there was nothing but bad play…poor touches crap passing…no creativity at all against a side whos home record was only just better then villa’s who are bottom

  • 10 GeordieTwo // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:10 PM

Sad stuff. But by all means keep going to the matches lads. Look how much we’ve improved over the last 8 1/2 years under Ashley with the ground full to look at the SD hoardings and not much else.

  • 11 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:10 PM

He shouldn’t be. He was woeful today. If he can’t go down the outside and use his left foot he is not a great player. So one footed today it was embarrassing. Yes, he is out of position, but he had a few chances to use his left foot nd always cut back onto his right. Cost us big time.

  • 12 MacToon // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:10 PM

I find I have very little in common with McClaren’s comments.
I am however surprised at how badly he has performed as our coach/manager. Ashley again has surpassed himself at finding someone inappropriate for a position at our club.

  • 13 angelswithdirtyfaces // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:11 PM

    Jib // Dec 28, 2015 at 5:56 PM

    Calm down dear
I can assure you it’s not my fault
    I try to stay positive
How about you try to stay adult

Okay you’ve got me .. mea culpa (that’s Latin Jeff)

Quoting your own frequent misjudgements was an adult reaction….

But asking you for your opinions and explanation was very childish as you never rise above the level of personal abuse and are incapable of reasoned debate.

Your challenge is to justify your position.

  • 14 Rotonda heights // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:13 PM

To be fair when I first knew we were after SM, my heart sank and further still when we kept pursuing him after he had rejected us twice. Oh for a bit of class and pride from this club..!

  • 15 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:13 PM

In the pub, didn’t hear the interview on tv, and can’t play it and listen here….

Did he really say we started well? Did they not have 5 corners in the first 15 minutes????

Sorry, at any well run club time would be up.

  • 16 GeordieTwo // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:13 PM

We gave up 16 corners McLaren. We weren’t even in the match from the start. They were all over us as most teams are. You can’t keep giving up 65% of the possession with a team as poor as we are and think you can win Steve.

  • 17 posada // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:13 PM

SM has to go. Every other side in the bottom half dozen are at least trying a new manager.
But, it won’t make any difference as we are no longer a football club. We are run from the south of England by MA and an old bloke who was a very average manager.

Looking forward to February. That’s when I cancel the standing order on my season ticket and bring this living death to a close.

  • 18 GeordieTwo // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:16 PM

But as I say keep going to the ground so things look good to the TV audience and Mike keeps making a fortune from the SD advertising. That will definitely work out.

  • 19 Rotonda heights // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:16 PM

    Manx at 7

Que? I’m trying to see a point but you’ve lost me there

  • 20 Average_Contents // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:17 PM

Basically he’s saying we started both half’s really good?

Not sure I’ve got an answer for that tbh.

We got outplayed by a, let’s face it, p!ss poor West Brom side managed by a throwback to the 90’s old dinosaur who apparently wouldn’t be able to outfox our dear shteve.

    Isn’t that right?

In the bottom three, playing football that can only be described as dogsh!t.

    Everything’s fine though right?

  • 21 manxpie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:19 PM

Well Rotonda have a look at ya past posts ya might get a light bulb moment!

  • 22 banjax // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Can believe McLaren’s still in post. Have said all these things before and I’m sick of saying them. What are Ashley and Co hoping to achieve by sticking to this management shower. All we are going to hear is more bullshit and weak excuses – where does it end ?

  • 23 GeordieTwo // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Saying Ashley is a disgrace as an owner is being charitable to him. The truth is even worse.

  • 24 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Get yourself out to Malawi for New Year, got loads of sand at the lake to bury your head in! 😉

  • 25 SPRINGY // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:21 PM

cant agree with macca on his assessment of the game utter bull to paper over the cracks and to say we were unlucky over to games is just grasping at straws…..luck comes and goes thru out the season….u could say we were very lucky not to be 3-4 goals down in the first half against everton….sick of his flanel now

  • 26 Mister Tuff // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:22 PM

    Lilo –please******please*********please.

Don’t ever again suggest to that knacker Jib/Jane/Jeff to do a match report/assessment. It is truly the worst I have ever read and demonstrates his lack of football knowledge. I find that these Johnny come Lately rugby players who convert to watching football – generally haven’t a clue about the game.
I repost his shyte to make my point:-
    Jib // Dec 28, 2015 at 5:53 PM

As soon as Anita tweaked his hammy it should have become obvious to all how great his contribution is.
Tiote to his credit kept it simple when he came on
Dummett better than some I’ve seen handling Stéphane Sessègnon
    Janmaat no complaintss
    Colo was a rock
Chancel , it’s hard too believe how young he is.
I suspect Ginger Jack is playing through injury but he was steady away
Wijnaldum clearly was picked out by Pulis as our danger man he was usually double teamed and on occasion had 3 to beat.
Sissoko always comes up short against physical teams
    Mitro was workmanlike no more
Perez should have been in the hole not trying to make Mitro look better
Darlow – oh dear – not his fault – he seemed to generally play better 2nd half.

  • 27 manxpie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:22 PM

Clue Rotonda ya asked me about ranierie and your point about players out of position

  • 28 welshgeordie9 // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:24 PM

We won’t get relegated there are far more worse teams than us.

  • 29 angelswithdirtyfaces // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:24 PM

Ashley is capable of basic arithmetic he can easily work out that 40pt safety needs 23 pts from 19 games. As this is now an average of over 1.2 pts per game – the same level of form as our top ten finishes – it is a standard we have reached in only two seasons in five. Are these good odds ?

    He has limited choices.

    1. Stick with Macca and hope for a turn round.
    2. Get rid and look for a ‘bounce’ manager to get us up the table.
    3. Spend on the players we’ll need to up the form – loan or sign
    4. Tinker with the squad – with minimal ins and outs.

  • 30 Ron Knee // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:24 PM

The trouble is it’s up to Ashley – and Ashley alone – to sort out the mess he created. Does he want us to stay in the PL?

  • 31 sparky55 // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:24 PM

You know you’re in the sh!te when you boast about going toe to toe with the mighty west from FFS.

If only we got the penalty eh?…well the other side of that ridiculous coin is we were also very lucky they didn’t put more of their 20 odd chances in the back of the net and put 8 past us.

Guys a fcuking clown…we have to make the change now or we’re knackered

  • 32 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:24 PM

You could say we were lucky to get anything against Bournemouth, and 3points against Liverpool and Spurs….

  • 33 welshgeordie9 // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:25 PM

Doesn’t help sacking a manger every couple of seasons though.

  • 34 Jib // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:25 PM

I reckon we might find shteve there too.

  • 36 sparky55 // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:26 PM

    brom…fcuking spellchecker!

  • 37 Transfer Sage // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:26 PM

The previous 5 games sum up exactly why we are where we are.

We are a team that are capable of beating good sides, personally not sure why other than the attitude of the players changing depending upon the opposition.

It’s no good beating teams at the top end of the table and dropping points to those around you. It’s a cliche but games like today really are worth 6 points.

I don’t like McClaren, I’ve made that clear but we don’t have an out and out goalscorer as we have in the past with Ba or Remy, we only really have a one player in midfield who chips in with goals.

If you can’t score you will always struggle to get points, especially when we are as poor at the back as we are capable of being.

  • 38 AncientC // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:26 PM

Colback was the best passer on the pitch according to the stats – that includes both sides. It all seems slightly pointless having a neat and tidy passer in the same side as Sissoko who crusades with the ball. It is like a free for all across the pitch, everybody playing to their own attributes. I just cannot see where any kind of cohesion is being coached into the ‘team.’

If you take all the available players + the players out on loan, there is a working team in there somewhere. McClaren has got to start picking a team instead of the best match day individuals.

Vuckic isn’t getting into the Wigan side, but surely he has got to be worth a recall and experimented with in training.

  • 39 mindshaft // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:27 PM

Scores on the door – Sissoko flatters to deceive , Darlow terrible, Colback terrible, Mitro is worse than Heskey

    Darlow 3
    Janmaat 6
    Mbemba 7
    Collo 8
    Dummett 6
    Sissoko 5
    Anita 7
    Colback 4
    Gini 5
    Perez 6
    Mitrovic 2

  • 42 Transfer Sage // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:28 PM

Poor interview from Mcclaren…we did not start brighter at all, we were under the cosh for a good 10 minutes at the beginning of the game but battled through it quite well.

I agree the penalty could change the game, but we always looked vulnerable from the balls into the box. Was only a matter of time for west brom to score.

  • 43 GeordieTwo // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:28 PM

I think he does Ron Knee mate. He only cares about a few things as far as the club is concerned. That is the advertising he gets from the televised Prem games, and the TV money. Those two facts are all he cares about. To get both he must keep us in the Prem. He won’t care whether we’re 17th or 7th as long as we stay up. He will panic spend in January as he has done previously. But the club means little to him other than advertising.

  • 44 manxpie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Ffs!!!!! Aaàaaaàaaaahhhhggg the change to who exactly! !!!?
Feskin hell! Have none of you learned anything under Ashley! !!!! And his 8 years?
If in January the crowd are all calling for the managers head I seriously give up

  • 45 Jib // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:30 PM

That 3rd relegation spot could be between the Swans and the Toon !!!
Divided loyalties for you my man !!!

  • 46 sparky55 // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:30 PM

Can’t help but go back three years when our little french magician took WBA apart in the first 20 mins…and then look at us now…we’re not even championship material and all Maclaren can say is we’re getting more consistent FFS

Note to self Stevie boy…losing consistently is not geed

  • 47 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:31 PM

Apologies, on the plus side for you he has gone quiet since I responded to it.

  • 48 SPRINGY // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:31 PM

thats what i mean luck,as a supporter we all know it swings around sometimes we’ll be lucky(everton first half) but that wont get a mention coz that would highlight the fact we were utter shite and again today very poor and the “unlucky”card gets played…..its al flanel to hide a poor performance

  • 49 Mister Tuff // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:32 PM

After the Arsenal game (trouncing) – what can the ordinary fan do to make a protest against the way the club is run/performing.
Apart from stopping going – it appears to me that the only real option would be for the FF and the Ashley out group to send a couple of open letters to the Club and try to demand some answers. No answers would probably be given but the process may kick start further condenmation/interest from the papers to ask the same questions. Mr Tubbs is not currently popular in the press – what else is there that can be done?????

  • 50 Lilongwe Geordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Too many distractions…took me too long to respond before he had posted again! My bad,

  • 51 lesh // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:33 PM

Maybe Rednapp might be the ‘bounce manager’ that’ll save the Club from the drop.

Stick with what he’s got and we’re down.

Assuming we don’t go down, stage two is to recruit a football savvy who’s got good form to rescue the Club from the mess made of Ashley’s lack of vision.

Carr’s future must be called into question – after all he’s been responsible for the players we’ve bought.

If Ashley’s not interested in success on the field, then he should just sell up.

  • 52 brklyngeordie // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Alright enough of this garbage I see on the pitch these players need a proper kick up the rear and need to be told what they need to do if they want to remain in starting XI..

GK’s- Been best position on team by a mile for me

RB- Jannmatt is really pissing me off with his crap overlaping runs and usually at fault for goals on crosses this man needs a proper tutorial on defending never see a hard tackle nor clearing crosses with head def not captain material.. Dont even know who the back up is which says a lot no one pushing this player to improve

CB- Mbemba has been solid and Colo is getting better as season goes along but feel for him as he has no outlet to pass to on left in Dummett or in front of him in Anita or Colback I swear he has better control then most on team and better ideas with ball at feet then our midfield and wingers

Mid- Anita having his best year for us but doesn’t mean he is good but feel could be better if he had Wini to work with instead of Colback who really needs to go to LB he is no good in middle of the pitch. Tiote is a shadow of the player he was when he first came and would love to have seen Abeid or Kemen given a chance but we sold them cause we are solid in the middle lol what a joke.

Wingers- Sissoko nor Wini is a true winger both need to be moved to middle this is stupidity having them wide we have only 3 true wingers Thauvin, Aarons, Obertan Mclaren needs to switch formation if we are not starting any of them.

ST/CAM- Mitro will never do do well because his strengths are in and around the box but the build-up play by this lot is so crap he is useless and Ayoze is really lost out there doesnt know where he should be. De Jong is waste of a jersey get this man out of here.

The club is in real danger and imo could be saved if a manager with a brain and balls came in and could get these players in proper positions and had the balls to drop those that dont go all out for the 90mins because as a fan 2015 was hard year to watch NUFC football enough of this crap ASHLEY OUT IN 2016

  • 53 nut meg // Dec 28, 2015 at 6:37 PM

We conceded 18 corners….yes 18, now does SM really expect to defend them all without goal scoring chances being made,we are fcuking constantly under pressure by our own doing. You cannot give the amount of ground away like we do AND expect to keep clean sheets! Every game is like the Alamo for us !

  • 54 posada // Dec 28, 2015 at 7:02 PM

Ashley – recruit the right people for gods sake man, instead of surrounding yourself with friends, hangers on and people you are comfortable with.
    That includes a proper board.

  • 55 Tartantoon // Dec 28, 2015 at 10:27 PM

100% agree with you Posada but unfortunately I am 100% confident that there is no chance of that happening 🙁
