Report – Saivet Concerned About Newcastle’s League Position

It’s not good to be in the relegation zone at the start of the January transfer window, and that’s why the last three games in which we have picked up only one point was not good at all – because players will not want to join a club in January who could end up in the Championship next season.

Last January QPR in particular were reported to have had great difficulty in persuading players to join them and they had 18 points after 19 games – one more than Newcastle now have – because  it looked like they were headed down in May – and of course they did get relegated.

Henri Saivet – concerned about Magpies’ low league position

There is a report in the Chronicle today that Newcastle are having trouble persuading Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet to join the club – because he is concerned about Newcastle’s low league position.

Obviously he doesn’t want to be playing in the Championship next season – if Newcastle should get relegated – and we are currently odds-on favorites to go down.

But that also seems to be a general problem Newcastle will have in this window – and it’s unlikely to get better as January progresses.

That’s because we have to play Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham and Watford in the league – and they are all in the top eight at the moment.

It also didn’t help that we lost eight games in a row last season and only just  avoided relegation on the last day of the season in May.

Bournemouth and Southampton are also reported to be after Saivet, so they could be better positioned to tie up the deal – especially the Saints.

Actions have consequences – and Newcastle’s very poor start to this season will not help us in January.

    YCMIU !!!

extremely injury prone, not prolific with assists or goals, would double his wages and he’s the one with cold feet!!

In three to four seasons time we’ll be playing our football in league 1, where we might be able to compete. If we stick with our current group of flops it will take two seasons. I’ve never known such a over rated team of second rate players be so over rated by so many people.

still think it’s more a clueless manager who can’t get enough out of the players or find a playing identity. mbemba, perez, wijni etc are all more than useful.

saivet fairly decent player strong/fast/good in air for size and has a decent pass/cross !

however his best position by far is dm which rings alarm bells imo as its all we seem to sign !

is he better than anita/colback/tiote ? imo yes a lot better and add’s another dimention as he can attack unlike those dm’s we currently have !
a bit confused as to why we go for another dm though tbh as its hardly our worst position even though he is a bargain and half at 2.5mil.

Prolific at picking up injuries. He will fit in well. Consistent if nothing else Mr Carr. I demand a squad of 22 injury prone French guys at once. Sort it Mr Carr.

Croftus- all we seem to sign? We have 4 DM’S and they are all woeful and no deep lying playmaker since cabaye. Anita, Bigi, colback and tiote are not up to it. They are average at best and we need better than we have. Shelvey AND this lad are worth a punt. Sell tiote and Bigi.

Frustrates me so much, Bournemouth aren’t exactly doing bad this season yet they’ve already got iturbe signed up.

It just doesn’t seem like charnley or Ashley are concerned despite our position.

Hit the nail on the head buddy….Fairly decent !!. That isn’t gonna cut it no more, We cannot jus keep signing players that are average and expect to survive in the PL.
Lt the likes of Stoke now..Half there team would walk straight in to our first team. The players they keep signing are quality rather than chances we keep going for.
Take Wini out of the summer transfer business and was disappointing to say the least

Can Saivet hit the ground running in the Premier League ? No word on that. So why are we putting ourselves down because we are in relegation mode. All I can say if any player is scared of a fight then we don’t want him. My guess is there will be a few decent players who will want to play for Toon if not just for the wages !

Croftus..Id say dmc is our worst position.. Defenders started to function, But if we let opponents have 10 chances per match we will concede.. Tiote is a shadow of himself, Colback and Anita cant organize players..so our midfield is our weakness.. We need a never give up dmc who can also organize players and make killer passes.. Young cabaye.. Saviet consider is a captain has some qualities, But I dont know how good he really is cos Ive never seen him play..hopefully good enough.. But we really need a “superstar ” in that position.. If we cover that, our ofense play will function.. We have quality players up front..

We dont have leaders in cm..thats our main problem.. Anita, tiote and Colback are all just little helpers to the main guy.. But we dont have one..and thats a big issue..

If we want goals from mitro we need good old fashioned wingers get half a yard and whip a ball in. We must play de Jong tomorrow we miss that link between midfield and upfront when he’s not playing and we miss his experience.

Only if shelvey can take a role of a leader..cos if he doesnt we are back to counter attack football.. Which means 5 chances per match..

Games are often won and lost depending on who wins the battles in midfield and that is where we are lacking so much, i wouldn’t even class colback/anita as ball winning midfielders, what we need is a decent pair, like we used to have with tiote and cabaye, perhaps maybe get Shelvey then Tiote can partner him? It always has to be one who is solid defensively and is physically strong, and one who can create chances from deep and have an eye for a pass.

I am pretty sure 4-4-2 and 4-4-1-1 are the only formations that have won us games this season.

The 4-2-3-1 formation has been a disaster, we reverted back to it against Crystal Palace – enough said about that one.

McClaren has yet to try any other formations, aside from the three mentioned. 4-3-3 has got to be worth a go, maybe just not against Arsenal.

That’s exactly what we are missing. Our 2 DMs play in between the CBs the gap between them and the front line is horrendous. The game plan v Liverpool was to out run them and work harder than them, surely that should be the same against every team.

I’ve been watching colback recently and getting so frustrated with him. I used to think he was really good and such a hard worker he would be the dm in the team nailed on. He never takes the ball down even when under no pressure and just heads it aimlessly up field in which the opposition take back possession. He has been doing this so much I was screaming at the telly against west brom after about the 5th time. When Tiote came on he kept chesting the ball down when under no pressure and passing it off and he totally embarrassed colback IMO. Tiote needs to be the DM in the team going forward and try and get someone creative alongside him so he can get back to his old self like when cabaye was here.

tbh i believe we have that acm who’s better than cabaye and thats wijnaldum but again its another player who’s played out of position.

tiote with wijnaldum i think would make a great cm pairing but he does like his 2 dm’s doesnt he >.<

we tried 433/4141 against watford and their two strikers just completely dominated the DM colback and mbemba and colo. Main reason being the closing down was terrible from us.

Formations imo are just on paper, i honestly don’t think it has much of an effect on how we play, unless it is a change to a 3 at the back or something, like there isn’t really any difference in playing a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-1-1.

For me its all about the coaching, mcclaren and cathro need to be working on the players tactical awareness, how they can exploit gaps, how they can play out of certain situations, how they can create a chance, simple things like, getting a winger to come short to receive a pass, but then if he’s being marked then getting the striker to make a run in behind the defence if we have to go long, there isn’t enough intelligence to create situations like this,. we look so clueless sometimes, and i think this is more down to the coaching. How we sat off west brom was embarrassing, making them look like barcelona, we are so bad at hunting in packs, closing down and limiting the options, thats if we actually intend to.

Actions do have consequences as does copping – Mr Charnley, take note!

He, together with Carr are responsible for today’s debacle and Ashley for his strategy before that.

It could have been avoided had Charnley and Ashley had gone for a then available top coach this time last year. De Boer, Klopp et al were available but oh no, Charnley would choose to put his head in the sand and hope that Carver’d save him a lot of effort this season.

He deserves to be shown the door at the end of the season, whether we stay up or not.

exactly mate, is mcclaren completely changing the game plan though not to outrun teams? or is it the players that can’t be bothered to do it every game?
