Alan Pardew had been very successful since he left Newcastle for Crystal Palace a year ago, and he now has Palace in 5th place as Newcastle continue to fight against relegation and are 3rd bottom of the league.
And just in case it wasn´t clear that one of the big reasons he left Newcastle was that he didn´t have control of the transfers at Newcastle – he has said it again today.
Alan Pardew – while at Newcastle
This is what Alan has said was a big reason he left Newcastle when left for a smaller club:
“Of course I questioned my sanity at times because Newcastle is a big, big club,” “But the timing was right for me and Newcastle to say ‘OK, you go down a different road now, and let me go down a different road’.”
“And Palace Chairman Steve Parish’s assurances on the transfer situation were key to me coming here. He said I would have full control over transfers.”
“The way transfers were done at Newcastle, I didn’t entirely agree with, and I didn’t want that here. That was one of the big reasons I came.”
We did notice that in December of last year Alan was very vocal about wanting a striker brought into the club, because we were finding it hard to score goals.
After 19 game played last season we had scored 22 goals – three more than we have scored this season so far.
And we have to believe that Alan was told nobody would be arriving in January (not one player was brought in as it turns out) and that´s also one of the reasons he took the Palace job when it opened up.
It´s interesting that Steve McClaren also has no say in transfers and a year later he is asking that a new striker be brought in this month.
We don´t think the way the club is being run works at all well – but we are like a broken record and Newcastle seem unwilling to change the way they do the transfers – with Graham Carr (completely) in charge.
Maybe if we change we can get out of fighting against relegation most seasons?
It would be really embarrassing if we are relegated and Crustal Palace qualify for Europe this season.

Comment #121Nice to hear Pardew finally say the transfer policy doesn’t work. Now let’s see the new puppet McClaren come out and say it too, then leaves. With any luck NO new manager will come to the club unless it is changed
