McClaren Tries To Reassure Fans After Disastrous Run

Newcastle started the season with only three points in the first eight games and then we seemed to recover with 13 points and four wins from the next 8 games as we ended that good run by beating Liverpool and Tottenham in successive games.

But since then we have been on another disastrous run of four games this time – against Aston Villa, Everton, West Brom and Arsenal and lost the last three games 1-0 and only drew 1-1 at home to bottom of the league club Aston Villa.

So it´s one point from the last 12 and we are now 2 points above Sunderland and second bottom place in the  league.

That´s more relegation form right there – although we did play very well at Arsenal but we always play well  against the big clubs.

Steve McClaren at the Emirates yesterday

But we missed chances yesterday and could even have won the game at the Emirates if we had a decent experienced striker in our ranks.

That caused reporters after the game to ask if QPR striker Charlie Austin was a target of Newcastle´s this month.

This is how Steve McClaren responded to that question:

”I can’t mention names.” “We are talking very privately and we are not discussing anything about January, any targets.”

“We know what we need and we know what we are doing behind the scenes. I just say we’ll keep that private until such time that something happens.”

“Believe you me, we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to correct things and move on and get results.”

There are reports today that Crystal Palace have moved ahead of Newcastle and are now favorites to sign Austin this month.
