Newcastle Closing In On Deal For French Striker

8:57 pm, Monday, January 4th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 87 Comments

According to RMC in France, Newcastle are in active negotiations to tie up a six month loan deal for Loic Remy, but former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is also thought to be interested in taking the French International to Crystal Palace on loan.

Loic has already showed on a season long loan from 2013-2014 that he can score goals for Newcastle – with 14 Premier League goals in 26 league appearances for the Magpies.

Loic Remy – while on loan at Newcastle

However, the worrying news is that the 29 year-old has asked for a week to consider the move – and that may be a ploy to allow Alan Pardew time to move in and sign the striker on loan for Palace.

Loic has never been able to break into the first team at Chelsea since he signed for them in the summer of 2014 after failing a medical in Boston for Liverpool.

Remy is very keen to get regular playing time so he has a chance of making the French squad for the Euro 2016 Championships in June.

But it could be a huge blow to the Magpies if Loic chooses Palace over Newcastle.

How low can you go?

That would be similar to the striker choosing QPR three years ago when the London club were bottom of the league and after a verbal agreement had been made that he would sign permanently for Newcastle in an £8M deal.

QPR were relegated in 20th place that season and then Newcastle took Loic on loan for the next season, but at the end of that season we couldn’t persuade him to sign for us.

We still hope Newcastle can get Loic in on loan – he could literally save us with his goals.

Hopefully, Newcastle have made a good offer for the French International.

Comments welcome.

he’s not going to leave London nor is Austin. They are going to Palace or West Ham. Austin may go to Spurs. Don’t thisnk Chelski would sell Remy or Loan Remy to Spurs

I think you’ll find Mc will be told to play Darlow, Lascelles Mbabu De Jong, Gouffy & Thauvin even Toney against Watford to rest other 1st Team Players & save them for Man U. Why would we try to win FA Cup this year when weakened squad has been selected in previous years.
It’s Club policy for season to be over in January

i actually can see this happening.
    Not because:
Ashley has the best interest in the club in mind
    Charmless knows wtf hes doing

    but because:
its the cheapest, make shift temporary option to keep the boat afloat

Anyone got a spare Play Station – that might seal the deal !

Sky Bet have already produced a market on Rafa Benitez’s next managerial position, with Newcastle the shortest Premier League club at 16/1. The Spanish national side is 4/1 favourite, with one of his former clubs – Valencia, currently being managed by Gary Neville, at 6/1.

  • 15 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Thing is we can get these players but we have to over pay for them in order to do it lets see if we do shall we

  • 16 jimiley // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:20 PM

At long last the Toon has achieved consistency under Mike Ashley. We lose a lot. 9 in a row to the gooners. I am now hoping that we have continuity and Schteeve is given an 8 year contract like Pardew. All is well in the Toon camp.

  • 17 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Don’t let Remy string us along. Make him an offer & then move on because there’s less than 4 weeks left of this window. It’ll all be last minute dealing when WE need players in & then out NOW.
I know everyone is speculating but we all know in our heart of hearts that it’s loan deals at best. Austin & Carroll are too risky injury wise & what about Full back cover only 2 fit plus Mbabu. Need a quality CB but we won’t get one with Sicknote Saylor, Willo the Weak & Untested Lascelles in the ranks behind Mbemba & Colo

  • 18 BandB // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:22 PM

Sixteen to one sounds pretty short doesn’t it?
But imagine being shown seventeen paper cups and told to find the ball in one go or you are dead…..
Now by comparison, our relegation odds are like being shown three paper cups and given two goes.

  • 21 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:24 PM

When did we last see this headline about Remy? :
NUFC closing in on deal for French Striker
When he chose QPR before us for Money!

  • 22 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:26 PM

Remy went to QPR for money…so?

  • 23 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:27 PM

Hope we are both proved wrong Lindisfarne but I think that team or one very similar will be the one.
So much for Mr Cashley wanting to win something.
He can always try to win the championship next season

  • 24 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:30 PM

Remy is a MERCINARY. he chose money in front of playing football & went for the big lights of London wich is where he will stay in my opinion.

  • 25 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:33 PM

Remy is a footballer who was offered a good wage at a dodgy club vs a less good wage at a dodgy club all with the aim of showcasing his skills and getting to a good club

Think all the players we sign come because they love the quayside?

  • 26 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:33 PM

Sorry WWSBRD I have morals & wouldn’t entertain him even if it mean’t us being relegated. Shouldn’t come to that because if we can’t finish above Mackems Villa, Swans ,Canaries & Bournemouth we don’t deserve to stay up.

  • 27 toon kk // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:34 PM

We should really push the boat out, bring back Joke Kinnear he’ll sort out the Remy deal out, you never know he may even bring Kebabs in too.
Things are starting to look rosey!!!!

  • 28 welshgeordie9 // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:40 PM

Why is that other clubs sign their players straight away, ours either take ages or the player spends a pissing week to decide.

  • 29 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:40 PM

OK but he’s not good enough to play for Chelski . This season proves you need team players who work for each other close down & chase in packs. Then somebody who knows where the net is like Vardy & his mate Mahrez at Leicester, Deeney & Igalo at Watford. If we bring anyone in they must ht the ground running from Day One. Bournemouth too have no stars but they never give up. That’s the mentality needed for a relegation battle. & if that happens at NUFC and they battle every week & still go down then so be it.

  • 30 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:41 PM

He wants a week to consider his option?

Now why didn’t that surprise me in the slightest?

    Mercenary till the end!

  • 31 welshgeordie9 // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:41 PM

Surly palace won’t be signing both Austin and Remy.

  • 32 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:42 PM

Ud rather watch championship football next season then have a good quality striker who was very good for us play all because he gets paid? What did we offer that QPR didn’t? We were crap aswell remember (and still are)

  • 33 John Tudor // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:43 PM

@23 that he will struggle with

  • 34 banjax // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:43 PM

One reason we might land Remy is Chelsea’s insistence not to allow him to go to a club above them in the Premiership such as Crystal Palace. It is well known Remy prefers the capital but his current club would much prefer him to come to us. This would be good business especially the way our league position is making any transfers such as Austin a much higher price now than in the Summer. If we dodge relegation later, Newcastle will look a much more attractive proposition in June and we are more likely to get our targets, and acquire them at a lower price. So let’s hope we can get Remy and Debuchy on loan till Summer.

  • 35 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:45 PM

He wants all of Newcastle scouted players just for spite

  • 36 Lindisfarne // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:45 PM

    West Lancs Geordie

Ant-man may be back in time to make an appearance. I can not see that side accidentally getting through to the next round, plus any replacement players used by Watford will be trying to impress the manager and get into the first team. Rather than cement a move to another club.

  • 37 toon kk // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:47 PM

A week for Remy to make a decision? It will take Mash three weeks to ponder whether to risk a gamble on us staying up by not strengthening.

  • 38 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:48 PM

Also Welsh why wouldn’t Pardew want both?

    Zaha, Austin, Remy

Cracking attacking force and with Cabaye behind them you could see a different Palace even better than they are now.

  • 39 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:49 PM

    Spot on Welsh.
It’s because we show our cards put it all over the media & press. Price goes up & we lose out. We lost Bony & Gomis to Swans, Alderwield (on loan)&Van Dyk to Soton & which Ayew was it we were after Swans player of Villa,? Shactiri went to Stoke. And the list goes on. All bigger clubs than us then

  • 40 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:50 PM

  • 41 lochinvar // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:51 PM

Optimistic – shows how much I know or can remember !

Remy on loan looks like an attempt to avoid signing Austin – could be a disaster if both elect to stay in London. If neither come to Toon and Arma stays in Coventry just who the hell will we sign up front ?

That apart Shelvey is a must.

  • 42 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:52 PM

I’d take Shelvey in a heart beat, Remi maybe on a I loan but I’m unsure if I really want him back.
Wouldn’t have Austin, to like Mitro and to injury prone.

  • 50 Belfast // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:58 PM

Zidane as head coach? Epic legend but a huge risk to take over Real Madrid.

Anyone know why Rafa was sacked? I’m guessing RM don’t like stability?

  • 52 OneAlanShearer // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:59 PM

If Ashley wants the club to stay up he needs to have a better plan than just loaning remy. They need to have a number of plans for at least 4 to 6 players in each. If I was planning our survival I’d bank on getting 5 of these: shelvey, austin/remy and carroll, ever banega, Redmond, Vestergaard, jonas hector, szsezny however you spell it, Redmond, fabien schar, bas dost, granit xhaka, lacazette. How the hell can’t they pull their finger out and get them in. Incompetent the lot of them.

Some site is saying we are one of three clubs that have enquired at Palace about Dwight Gayle.

    I’d rather have Dwight Yoakam

  • 54 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:01 PM

Well all this London talk that’s why a megabucks Foreign investor has not come in for NUFC. The North East is “unfashionable”Can’t understand it 52000 punters every other week go to watch a load of donkeys run round a field .They couldn’t go wrong but regrettably that’s what we need to turn us back into a great club – Mega bucks (10x what Cashley will ever have)

  • 55 optimistic prime // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:05 PM

Palace after Shelvey to according to papers, and obvs Remy and Austn.

Why won’t they buy Obertan Marveux and Williamson?

  • 56 NezzaNUFC // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:05 PM

If I’m honest I think out of all the teams Remy could go to, I think he would choose Newcastle.

    Stopped laughing yet!

Here me out, if Remy came here and scored loads of goals for us he will always be in the media here and being talked up a lot, he would have a better chance for playing for France through media with us than finishing 6th say with Palace.

Some may say well he could score loads with Palace, yes, but the media here would make out that Remy alone saved us from relegation which he can’t from Palace.

  • 57 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:08 PM

All we are looking at is injury prone players, guys who can’t get into other Prem first teams & loan signings. Now is that a forward looking club.?
Carroll on loan with option to buy if we stay up
Shelvey on loan with option to buy if we stay up
Townsend on loan with option to buy if we stay up
Remy on loan with option to buy if we stay up.
But where is FB, CB or midfield playmaker.
It was said we need to add 3 but we need at least 7 & shed 7 duffers

  • 58 welshgeordie9 // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:09 PM

Why have Real Madrid got Zidane as their manager, don’t get me wrong he was an awesome player, but what’s he won manager wise.

  • 75 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:44 PM

    Jack Root
Perhaps you can answer this with your finance background. Ashley owns 100% of NUFC but only 60+% of SD (?). Why wouldn’t he sell the advertising rights at SJP in the open market i.e. for their full market value? He gets the full benefit via the club that he wholly owns. Presently, unconnected SD shareholders are seemingly benefiting from the free advertising. There’s nothing in that for Ashley.

  • 76 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:48 PM

    Jack Root
Put it another way. Ashley could ask SD to pay the full going rate. Perhaps a small % reduction. Mates rates. Why doesn’t he when he owns 100% of NUFC?

  • 77 jimmysmith // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:48 PM

Remy, a left back of equal quality, and a midfield of Tiote, Widj, and DeJong behind, and Sissoko and Perez working the flanks. Mitro, Anita, Colback on the bench, and there’s your better second half of the season, and platform to build on. De Jong deserves a genuine shot at a place, and he does have goals, in fact that side would have plenty of football and goals in it.

  • 78 nightfa11 // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:51 PM

    Lets be real here..

No quality player will sign a long term contact with us..we’re in relegation places.. Lone deal is the best way for them..and getting in players of quality of remy in, is the best the club can do at this time.. Thank god its euro season and everyone wants to play and prove themselves..

  • 79 jimmysmith // Jan 4, 2016 at 10:57 PM

60% of SD amounts to whole lot more than all of Newcastle Utd. So there’s real value to him personally in getting all that exposure from the advertising and he doesn’t have to sell it or justify it to shareholders. It’s a sweetener to them, a nice little perk for everyone, except us. And the problem for us can only get worse, as time passes, and other clubs gain the greater benefit of higher revenue streams by virtue of inflation, more investment in the game, and general growth, while we get nothing and the debt remains.

  • 80 Jib // Jan 4, 2016 at 11:12 PM

    What’s with the “us”
Do you have money invested in NUFC ?

  • 81 jimmysmith // Jan 4, 2016 at 11:17 PM

We must have a good chance to get Remy in on loan, or any other current English based player, because they will know we do have some good players, that our need is great, and so there is a job to be done, and they’ll also know just how big the club is, and how great the ground and crowd is.

  • 82 jimmysmith // Jan 4, 2016 at 11:21 PM

“Us” is the fans, as I see it, who miss out on the benefit of that revenue as it flows back to be invested in better infrastructure and players on the pitch, with the situation worsening over time if nothing changes.

  • 83 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 4, 2016 at 11:31 PM

That still doesn’t explain it for me. If the going rate is say £10m, but the benefits/returns to SD are worth very much more, SD doesn’t need a reduction never mind a waiver in the fee. It doesn’t explain why Ashley wouldn’t have NUFC charge 100% when he owns 100% of it.

  • 84 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 4, 2016 at 11:36 PM

We’re in a pickle. You’re ever the optimist. Charnley and Carr can’t get it right at the best of times never mind now when they’re bent over a cart with their pants down.

  • 85 lesh // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:22 AM

We’ve all noticed that Pardew’s reported as interested in our reported targets and of course realise that the press’ll make a meal of what are probably its own stories.

There’s also the possibility that Pardew’s leaking these stories to make a point to Ashley. The point being that he’s got more influence over transfers at Palace than he was given while at SJP.

However, I’m inclined to believe that our interest in Remy is more of Bullchit Bishop’s disinformation intended to quell any restlessness that may be simmering on Tyneside.

  • 86 lesh // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:25 AM

And if Remy wants a week to consider a move back then he’s not what we need.

In saying that, we’re hardly the club every ambitious player wants to join are we.
