There’s An Unhappy Camper At Newcastle

4:37 pm, Monday, January 4th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 188 Comments

Siem de Jong is not a happy camper at Newcastle this season and it’s not surprising as he has been unable to break into the first team and doesn’t even come off the bench in every game – so he is having very little playing time.

And it doesn’t help that’s in a team that is 3rd bottom of the Premier League and fighting against relegation so far this season.

siem de jong aston villa 1-1 storm

Siem de Jong – unhappy camper

It cannot be easy for the 26 year-old International especially after last season’s injury woes and his collapsed lung.

This is what Siem had to say to Algemeen Dagblad:

“It sucks, especially because I need the minutes to get into a rhythm and get used to the physical games in the Premier League.”

“It feels a bit like my first years at Ajax. Sometimes you play, then you come on as substitute or you are not part of the squad.”

“There is also the feeling that you have to prove yourself. There is a new coach this season, not the one who bought me.”

“There were also new signings. No, it isn’t the easiest situation.”

Siem is right – it’s not an easy situation at all, but he’s got to do his best and prove he is worth his place in the side.

But we do expect McClaren to try to give Siem playing time from the bench and we are hoping Newcastle will start to pull away from the bottom of the league.

In fact the main (only)  thing for Newcastle this season is to avoid relegation and we are hoping Siem can help us do that.

Comments welcome.

We’re going to need top, top players for next season in the Championship! Mike should be aware of that. Hmmm. What is Nile Ranger doing these days?

  • 6 Belfast // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:44 PM

There’s not really a place for him in the team in my opinion. The signing of the other Dutch bloke in the summer was bad news for him. Still looks like he’s got something about him but if it’s a straight choice between them the other guy starts every time for me.

  • 7 toonking // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:45 PM

Looks as though we’ve got another sissoko attituded player in our team this time it’s de jong.

You want to get back into this team well start getting some goals or start playing as a LW to give wini his chance as the CAM because he’s certainly got more goals i him than you have.

Does anyone have Xisco’s mobile number by any chance? Graham Carr has been asking me for it… 😯

  • 12 AncientC // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:47 PM

Alan Pardew has denied these allegations stating on the Newcastle official website: “Following media reports concerning my player selection for our final game of the season against Liverpool, any suggestion that I colluded and agreed with our loan striker, Loic Remy, that he did not have to play in this game are wholly untrue.

“To suggest that I considered there to be nothing riding on that game is also completely false. Our final league position was at stake, as was the race for the Barclays Premier League title for our opponents, Liverpool.

“What is more, each and every one of us associated with the Club was desperate to get a result for our supporters, especially those 2,800 travelling fans who made the journey to Anfield that day.

“The reality was that Loic had sustained an ankle injury in our game against Cardiff the previous week. The results of an MRI scan conducted after that fixture revealed ligament damage and swelling around the joint.

“Had Loic been fit then clearly, without question, he would have been selected to play in what was a crucial game like every other.”

(Come back Pardew, we miss you)

  • 13 Belfast // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:47 PM

Classic example of our dodgy transfer policy though.

  • 14 GeordieTwo // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:48 PM

Hmmmm. I see BandB mate. Well, it’s a good thing I’m looking for Xisco’s mobile number then.

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:48 PM

To be honest though, apart from miss that header and play shyte against Sheff Wed under indtruction what’s he done wrong ?

  • 16 lesh // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:49 PM

    Avoid relegation? The priority?

Didn’t Ashley say he’d like to win something then he’d sling his hook?

If that was the case, then let’s hope we win the FA Cup.

But can he be relied upon to keep his side of the bargain?

    That is the $64000 question!

  • 17 GeordieTwo // Jan 4, 2016 at 4:52 PM

Where are wor other top, top players of yesteryear? Where is Luque when we need him? Xisco is looking good now as well. That’s the kind of firepower I’m talking about. Ashley will be so pleased if I can get these players back to fill in while we decide what to do in the Championship. Do we stay with the already fabulous Arsenal model? Do we bring in some Austrian pre-teens? What is the plan Mike?

The club should have loaned De Jong out at the start of the season could have meant he would have been properly match fit !

Still would like to see him in a middle 3 with Tiote and Wijnaldum at the very least at home

Don’t despair mates! I’ve got lots of other brilliant ideas to share with Mike about wor current dilemma. I’ve been visiting Ashley in the Fuhrer bunker recently. He looks a bit worse for wear I’m afraid. Hiding from his beloved supporters is very tiring apparently. He has all his top people working on wor problems. Kinnear has called in. So has Llambeezee. So am I worried? Never!

It’s the sign of a committed player that Siem expresses his frustration at not getting enough plating time, but what he needs to remember is his injury record. He has recovered from a very nasty injury but he has to be patient as Newcastle have been. On the transfer front I hope Newcastle snap up Remy and go guns for Townsend and Shelvey.

  • 35 GeordieTwo // Jan 4, 2016 at 5:08 PM

I’m now contacting the Austrian pre-teens for Graham. We’ll not be offering a lot in the way of wages of course. We have to make sure such top, top players as Saylor and Obertan keep getting their much deserved dosh. Yes, that’s how you build for the Championship. Well done Mike!

Maybe if you could head the ball in from 3 yards out you’d stay in the team. Average player.

  • 42 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 5:20 PM

Loan players at best then! Towsend who can’t even get on the bench at Spurs, Remy the £80K pw carpetbagger who turned us down twice once to go to QPR & then the bright lights of Chelsea. Not convinced on either. We need some quality in though because we are TOP of the Premiership for injuries again with 10. Of these 3 are CBs (who wouldn’t get in another Prem side plus Haidara (FB). We need at least two quality defenders but I bet we don’t get em. Certainly need a proven striker with goals in him as Cisse is now to have surgery so another long term “casualty” Need to offload, Marvaux & Gouffran £60k & £55K pw respectively

  • 57 BandB // Jan 4, 2016 at 5:36 PM

The Chronicle appears to have been briefed about a month ago that there would have to be outgoings before any incomings this window.
That’s the kind of news you pass to the town paper, not the nationals, so it could be a correct steer.
The benefit to the club is going to be largely in wages saved rather than in transfer fees…..unless we intend to sell a Sissoko or Perez. None of the others will bring more than a few million each and could be a hard sell anyway.
If incomings are predicated on lowering the wage bill first, then they are likely to take as long to work through as a straight transfer would.
This could test our patience, but the quiet start so far only suggests that they weren’t exactly quick out of the blocks with the outgoings.

    4 Thump // Oct 4, 2014 at 5:38 PM

@manxpie: Pardew is a more realistic goal for the time being. Somewhere on their site they’ve mentioned that if they’re successful in getting Pardew out, they’ll go after Ashley.

Keep in mind that people are hardly falling over themselves to buy clubs these days. The sale of NUFC may very well depend on how we perform in the league, best way to do it is to make the club as attractive as possible and give value for the £200m-ish price tag Ashley has slapped on us (stock purchases + loans) and right now, we aren’t worth that and everybody knows it.

    Pards just been interviewed.

Tough place to come, their crowd are very patient which helps (first dig) they keep the ball ….. towards the end very even but we did not try to protect our 2-2.
Cisse missed a lot last year but has enthusiasm back….pleased for obertan who lost his way but he is a young man and could be a big player for us (new one) sammi is a young player and been in the shadow of his bro, should be ripping this league up…been so patient with him.
re the next game. Well players go away now I wont grt them for ages.

all manxpie is doing is using ashley’s records on appointments in the past as proof why it won’t change. SBR one of the best managers we’ve had in premier league era, his run was not even as bad as pardews current run but fans still couldn’t accept the bad run. that proves really we are only going to have a few months before the same again with who ever comes in, it will be just another manager merry go round and we will get relegated again.

it doesn’t end their because fans use pardews past at other club to give reason for his sacking, then again we need to take into account ashley’s records from the past of all the appointments he has made so far.

it just will not change and the best way to see him sell is either relegation or we abuse SD ourselves at matches because that is what his important to him and we are just advertising.

Now it begans with me sounding positive about pardew but right at the very bottom I say relegation might help see cashley out

In other words I’m saying crap managers are all we’ll ever get and it just won’t change.

Anyway it’s got to the point now where I’m extremely pleased he is gone and we’ve now got the type of manager who will see us relegated giving that fat b@stard the championship money he deserves

It’s on players like you, with your illustrious background, that I counted on in order to make the top 6 THIS season.

A fine mess you and your mates got us into.

Like most athletes know and champions adhere to, forget past glories and reputation, you must prove yourself every time you step on the court, field, course. There’re 100 people willing to do that, chasing you down.

So, what did you do in the last game you played Siem?

  • 73 Mister Tuff // Jan 4, 2016 at 5:57 PM

Toonking – because I do not include a list of all our duff second rate managers when I poke fun at King Percy supporters does not mean I think there are no equally equivalent shyte managers that we have employed. Just I do not list them all.

I see your reasoning but I think he comes for a lumpa so his start date aint relevant.

We could do with bedding him in for Man U a week tomorrow.

They should start SdJ against Watford in the cup on Saturday just to shut him up.

  • 75 toon kk // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:05 PM

Siem de Jong wants to think himself lucky he plays at all. There’s far better player’s at bigger clubs around the world spend half there career warming a bench. If he proves that he’s worthy of a start, he’ll get one. He could work on getting his pace upto scratch for a start.

Just because I give pardew some credit and back the opinions of those who sound pro parjew does not mean in any way i’m actually a believer in pardew being a top class manager or one we’d want to look at had we been owned by john hall, freddy shepard or an owner like that of city.

  • 77 LGFUAD21 // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:08 PM

I said in the summer that I didnt see how Gini and De Jong fitted in the same team.

They both want to play number 10 and both flourish in that role.

    HOWEVER

At Ajax De Jong did partner Eriksen in a midfield 3 with a holding player behind (I believe it was Anita)

I’d love to see if the following worked

    ———————Tiote
    ———–De Jong——-Gini
    Moussa————————–Perez
    ———————Mitro—————-

That’d be an incredibly attack minded set up but it could work against the “lesser” teams providing we keep the ball.

Only worry is that we would be sacrificing Colback’s poor but effective tackling. I think because hes a bit dirty (like scholes was) that it often hides what he does when he’s on his game.

  • 78 LGFUAD21 // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:11 PM

Lets not forget that SDJ finished his Ajax career playing as a striker also.

Given we arent having much luck there maybe we could try him up top once Mitro has bullied them a bit.

    Or the other way round

I cant see SDJ bullying cbs but I can see his movement being awkward for them. Once they get used to that, using the bullish Mitro could shock them.

Just trying to head off some of that “we’ll never sign anybody…oh, we signed someone…what a bloody hero” thing.

Scraping around for insider portraits of Ashley, one thing comes up agin and again.
It’s that while he loves his lolly well enough, his real pleasure comes from driving a hard bargain and ALWAYS coming out on top.
And if he can’t win on his terms, he’s quite happy to wait for his day to come, even if it means cutting off his own and countless other noses to spite his face.

  • 80 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:13 PM

Well Firebug if we just rely on signing low quality loan players in January that will signal the end of Toon’s Premiership days because Cashley will then off load Sissoko,Perez, Krul,Janmaat & Gini to recoup his losses & the way back will not prove so easy as last time with what we have left.Perhaps SDJ will get a game in the Championship. Can see understrength side fielded against Watford (FA Cup) & then season over yet again in January

    West Lancs Geordie

It will take something special to save us from relegation this time, and apart from the fans this club has nothing special left.

Either we spend some dosh on a bit of quality or we sink to the championship, I don’t see us doing the former, unless we manage a loan deal (Chelski are apparently in talks with us over Remy) but the latter is looking more and more likely.

If we go down I think we will be there for a while this time.

  • 85 AncientC // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:22 PM

Charnley back in early September “The decisions we’ve made over the past few years have given us the financial strength to net spend significantly this summer, as well as retaining those key players who were in demand from other clubs.

“We’ll continue to spend on the squad moving forward and have no need or desire to sell our best players.”

As far as I am aware, none of our players were in “demand” in the last transfer window, and rightfully so considering the results and performances.

You have to give credit where it is due, the club made a net spend on players, which had not happened whatsoever since the club came back from the Championship – this at the same time that the club needed a net spend for a chance of survival in the Premier League, strangely enough.

The point I was making to Jib is that while most people think Ashley won’t pull on his Premier league project because of money, there may other sides to what makes him tick that might.
And if he can’t get Premier League football and world-wide exposure for the THE PRICE HE WANTS TO PAY he MIGHT just begin to entertain thoughts of other ways to skin the cat that don’t involve him breaking with his dearest principles.

  • 89 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 6:26 PM

JT It pisses me off when we keep being linked with big name players who always seem to end up somewhere else. It also pushes price up. Much rather just find out we’d made a signing out of the blue. Like when Cisse arrived for £10k but Cashley won’t sign Austin nor begian from Marseille. It will be loan player(s). If the fringe players Mc isn’t picking now whilst we are losing should get rid & lower wage bill.

  • 114 Tsunki // Jan 4, 2016 at 7:03 PM

Yes we are stuck with the big guy. Some time back I pointed out that Ashleys business empire was spider like as it encompassed brands covering the bargain to the reasonably trendy markets. He can rejig the focus on brands as they ebb and flow in popularity and always stay ahead of the game as regards which brand or product is popular at any given time. He kind of holds a morphing monopoly if you like. King of the lower to middle end sports / fashion tat biz.

Not wanting to revisit the ground and club marketing TV advertising scam er sorry agreement ( stupid phone 🙂 ) but he really really needs to keep a tight grip on that little beauty because that accounts for probably 60% of his marketing exposure in the UK and probably almost 100% worldwide. At a rough guess. He’d be hard pushed to get that much advertising value anywhere else.

Loic Remy’s return to Tyneside is looking increasingly likely as RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi reveals he is in talks with Newcastle.

The Chronicle revealed this morning that Newcastle were among the clubs offered the chance to sign Remy this window by Chelsea, with Blues boss Guus Hiddink keen to free up funds to reinvest on new signings. The Magpies’ fellow relegation strugglers Swansea City, Norwich City and Aston Villa have also been offered the chance to sign the Frenchman.

    ADVERTISING

Mohamed has since revealed that Newcastle have sent a delegation to meet with the representatives of Loïc Remy, ahead of a six months loan move. He also states that the 29-year-old will take a week to contemplate the offers made for him before making his final decision.

It’s nothing personal but your doing it again. Talking about things you really haven’t got a clue about. I don’t propose to talk shop in any detail on a football blog.
It’s not as simplistic as looking at a current share price. Ashley will almost certainly have various put options which gives him the option to sell shares at a predetermined price in the future. Should he wish to exercise the option. What you see as a current loss is only a paper loss until it’s actually realised.

    Tsunki

Sorry mate I was getting bored.

    toon kk

Me neither mate, mostly just lazy press, I don’t thing we would splash 8m for him anyway, and that’s the supposed asking price.

  • 153 Tsunki // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:08 PM

Jack, and I mean this in a nice way, I don’t understand anything you said. And I’m not going to try.

  • 154 Tsunki // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:10 PM

Belfast and Tsunki? Ian are you for real? Whatever it is you’re talking about just let it go man. 🙂

  • 155 Jack Root // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:10 PM

I thought we had left the way open to Palace to get Austin.

  • 156 Tsunki // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:11 PM

I say I say I say, Belfast – have you heard about the blog vicar who thought he was an economist?

  • 157 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:14 PM

Should they stay or should they go?
Willo the Weak – played well for Wolves let him go if they want him
Obertan – If interest from Nantes let him go
Vuckic – not going to make grade sell perhaps to Rangers
Marvo – Reduce the wage bill get rid
Riviere – Not good enough -out
Gouffy- Wages too high not good enough
Cisse – sell if anyone will have him
    Registered players 24 – 7 ( 2 currently injured)= 17 less 8 still injured
If we deregister Krul & get an on loan keeper
We will then need recruit at least 6 or 7 plus we have Mbabu (youth)
Of the rest we have Darlow,Lascelles not ready & Sicknote Saylor.
We only have 3 recognised fullbacks & Hairdara is injured
We have only 2 recognised strikers with Cisse injured & Riviere & Goofy not good enough
Need quality CB as relying on Mbemba & Colo every week
It’s a very poor squad without adding quality.

I am in finance. Ancient can’t even get that right.

  • 160 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:21 PM

I also think Bigirma (oh how do you spell it Tsunki?)who is out on loan with Coventry was included in original squad. Extend loan to end of season & deregister him. Frees up another.
This is really where you lads shit on on spreadsheets should really EXCEL

  • 161 Belfast // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:22 PM

It always was Belfast and Skunki. Just like champagne and white lightning really.

  • 167 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:27 PM

Bladeuser- Great but how are u going to get Cashley Out . We have no one to replace Colo. SMAC will go when Cashley wants him to carry the can & well the Sheep are just Mutton dressed as Lamb

  • 168 Jack Root // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:28 PM

Rejoice all fans of the blog. Tittle -tattle and internet gossip – the January transfer window is wide open and there is a huge bag of Ashley’s money available. Let’s get stuck into It.

  • 169 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:28 PM

    See yer Tsunki
The Blog is bound to go downhill now!

  • 172 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:33 PM

I hate the January window we always sell & never replace never mind strengthen. But remember tomorrow is the first day of the rest of NUFC’s season

    Any news on Charlie boy.

  • 175 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:35 PM

Hope your right Belfast. Where’s my old mate Jack Butler he never seems to be on these days?

  • 176 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:37 PM

I think he’s in the sickbay Welsh. He’d never pass a medical here would he? He’d fit in well with sick note Saylor

  • 177 Belfast // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:38 PM

Don’t know actually. He usually disappears for a while and then he returns like a bad smell. 🙂

  • 178 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:45 PM

Don’t think Remy or Austin will move from London probably end up at Palace or West Ham.
Do we take a punt on the Belgian striker from Marseille then?
After all Belgium is the top rated team for the Euros although he will probably cost too many Euros

  • 179 jane // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:46 PM

what does to have a chip on ones shoulder mean? does this describe bladeuser? does he feel superior or inferior?

  • 180 Mag52 // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:52 PM

Could be that Koeman and Southampton are not seeing eye to eye at the moment, the selling of their best players without replacing them seeming to be the cause. Does this ring any bells ?

  • 181 Lindisfarne // Jan 4, 2016 at 8:53 PM

I would like to see de Jong lining up next to Tiote if we start with the same formation at Watford and move Colback to left back. He doesn’t have the pace to be an attacker but has the bulk to be a midfielder and presumably the technique to hold on to the ball and pass.

I think PL defenders are used to playing against a single orthodox CF and will find a pairing of Perez and Thauvin more difficult to handle. The regular first team should therefore look more like this, with the relevant changes due to incoming transfers.

    ___Thauvin_____________Perez
    ______________Gini
    ___de Jong______________Sissoko
    ______________Tiote
    Colback__Dummett__Mbemba__Janmaat
    ______________Krul

  • 184 Malta Mag // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:31 PM

Sorry Tsunki but am I the only blogger that hasn’t a clue what on earth you’re talking about?? I mean the post was about DeJong and you have written numerous posts which are utter bollocks about whatever. Maybe it’s me and I’m missing the point but it sounds like you’re in some kind of parallel universe mate??
Reference DeJong and getting back to the point in question, why don’t we try either him or Perez as the front man with Gini behind and Thauvin and Sissoko supplying the goods? I’ve appealed for time to be given to Mitrovic but time may be against us. As for the Remy rumors of a loan deal, well why not? The kids class and has that mobility to drift across the front line and create problems for defenders. I would prefer to get Charlie Austin but if it doesn’t happen then yes let’s go back for Remy and forgive and forget.

  • 185 BandB // Jan 4, 2016 at 9:59 PM

    Malta,

You seem to have inadvertently posted this half an hour and 20 posts after a new thread started.

He’ll never see it back here, man.
