Do Newcastle Really Think This Striker Is Good Enough?

1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 122 Comments

We never thought that Dwight Gayle was much of a player or much of a striker, but there’s news that Newcastle may be interested in signing the Crystal Palace striker this month.

Maybe Alan Pardew is motivated to sell Dwight to Newcastle for a good price?

gayle scoring after 30 seocnds

Dwight Gayle scoring after 30 seconds against Newcastle last season
So it’s not just this season we are asleep

Certainly since Pardew left Newcastle for Palace the fortunes of both clubs have gone in opposite directions – Palace have been on the up – and Newcastle have struggled with relegation.

Gayle almost left Palace in the summer and he’s scored goals wherever he’s played at – but it’s mainly been in the lower divisions.

He joined Palace from Peterborough in the summer of 2013 and since that time he’s played 65 times for Palace and scored 22 goals – but in the Premier League he has only 12 goals in 55 appearances

He has 10 goals in ten appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup combined.

Gayle cannot get much playing time at Crystal Palace – so if we are really interested in this player – which we doubt – it says how far Newcastle have come down in their ambitions.

Maybe that’s only to stay in the Premier League – certainly that has to be the goal this season, after making our worst start ever in the Premier League over the first 20 games.

Maybe we are only tagged as being interested in Dwight because everybody knows we need at least one good striker bought in this month – and if we don’t get one we will in likelihood be relegated.

That’s where we seem to stand at the moment but Dwight Gayle cannot possibly be the answer.

It’s not too encouraging at the moment for a club as massive as Newcastle United.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

This is exactly the type of striker we should be interested in. Pace to burn.

How many of those premier league appearances have been starts?

  • 2 Thump // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:08 PM

Is he good enough? Absolutely not.

Does Graham Carr think he is? Probably.

    This club, man.

  • 3 FollowFollow // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:10 PM

Just pay up for Carroll and get Remy on loan. The pay back is that we stay up, guaranteed.

  • 4 Belfast // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:12 PM

I’d rather sign him than sign some unknown frenchie to be honest.

  • 5 Toonfan8 // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:12 PM

Remy and Shelvey are must, we really miss that type of players and bring Jose Enrique back…(Willems in the summer)….and we are sorted…quality team
    Thauvin….De Jong……Aarons
I think, that is enough for stay in the league, in the summer top talents Willems,Xhaka and one big CB….

  • 6 Jib // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:14 PM

We are definitely looking for a striker
The German media is linking us again with SVHamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

  • 7 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:20 PM

the name and his background suggest he’s not good enough !

    i disagree though tbh !

he’s not the top top striker we all want but he’s used to hard work and has everything we are after and tbh we need that grit and determination for when our fancier players just dont hit the mustard like we are in now.

  • 8 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:21 PM

    afternoon all,
hes the similar type of player to a bellamy or vardy…quick busy player but dont think he’s anywhere near as good….been looking at transfermarkt…and 2 players who are in the last 6 month of there contracts who myt be worth a look at….CAM ever banega from sevilla 27…and CB nicholas N’koulou from marseilles 25…..not sure if we will sign anyone tho…..not many signs at the minute

  • 9 JamRec // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:23 PM

It’s a risk but then Newcastle love to take risks when signing players so we will probably sign him… the question is whether there is a profit to be made!

  • 10 Thump // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:27 PM

@Springy: AC Milan want Banega, and Chelsea want N’koulou so we probably have more chance of Ashley showing ambition.

    Quality players, though.

  • 11 smoke beer, drink tabs // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:29 PM

Would like to see Shane long to be honest. Can play up front or out wide

  • 12 JAMSHA // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:31 PM

18mil for carrot lol, max 5 mil or fk off

  • 13 geordie157 // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:31 PM

If we took Remy on loan, go all out for Shelvey that may be enough to get us up the league.

Would love a left back…Ben Davies ideally but he’s back in the starting xi now I think, willems is still injured? Enrique back on short term deal?

  • 14 Jib // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:32 PM

Michy Batshuayi is the one I think we may get.

Michel , Bielsa’s replacement says he won’t let him go but Le Brune will overrule him I think.

  • 15 dok - the horrid colonial // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:35 PM

only risks this club like to take is with relegation, and I am slowly accepting the fact we will most likely drop…. again…

  • 16 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:36 PM

I’ve always been impressed with Gayle whenever I’ve watched him. Decent player; very quick. I’m surprised he’s been sidelined at Palace. Realistically, we need to keep one eye on the Championship during this window. In that regard, he wouldn’t be a bad signing, as he’d most likely be kept on in the event of us going down.

  • 17 dok - the horrid colonial // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:37 PM

Marseille has already said michy isn’t going anywhere…

It looks like we’re dragging r feet again Pardew after every player we want love to give him a left hook we should have at least one player in we been in talks with Townsend n shelvey since window opened been linked with Dwight Gayle and remi a player that rather go QPR then us

  • 20 toon kk // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:45 PM

Big question – if Carroll came who’s going to supply him?

Two or three games later we’ll be in exactly the same position as now while Carroll was recovering from his new injury.

  • 21 Jib // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:46 PM

Marseilles said Thauvin wasn’t going anywhere !

  • 22 geordie157 // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:46 PM

Leicester signing Gray for 3.7mill shows not all players are over priced, he is a raw talent but again feels like someone we could have taken a chance on.

Would like to test Leeds to see how much they want for cook, mowatt and bryam.

  • 23 dok - the horrid colonial // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:54 PM

face it, were not getting anyone, except what we can resell… keeping the band playing as the titanic goes down, by all means.

  • 24 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 1:57 PM

    carroll worth 8mil max.

not saying he’s not a very good striker and i’d love him back but he’s worth about 8 goals a season as he’s mostly injured and just not worth the risk imo.

  • 25 jimiley // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:03 PM

He is good enough if he is cheap enough. The Toon is only interested in the transfer fee and the wages. Whether he can play is a bonus. Anyway, why do we need a striker? We have our new signing Mr Riviere. God I long for the days of Shepherd and Hall. All is forgiven.

  • 26 toon kk // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:04 PM

Let’s face it if we go down is it such a bad thing? Fans must be starting to get slightly fed up of watching us playing in a league we can’t compete in. At least in the championship we may get a bit of excitement for a change.

  • 27 lesh // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:10 PM

Gayle’ll be typical of the quality we’ll bring in – if anyone at all comes in.

    And Jib

Do you deliberately set out to be a tw@ or does it come naturally?

  • 28 brklyngeordie // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:11 PM

Truth be told I wouldn’t mind Gayle and would prefer him over MerceREMY think he can play striker or wide just like Remy..

More importantly CM needs to be taken care of and if we aren’t going for Shelvey read that Porto are looking to move Imbula we should be on phone asap and get him in

  • 29 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:11 PM

I doubt West Ham would do business at £8m. With his extended run in the team and recent goalscoring form, I think they’d want at least £12m. Given our position, I think it’s a risk worth taking. There are no guarantees with any player over injuries, and Carroll may well be through the worst of his. Gosling was never fit for us, but seems solid now at Bournemouth. Bellamy was always struggling early on with his knees, shin splints etc., but shrugged them off later in his career.

It’s a hypothetical question, obviously, but how much would Carroll be worth if he scored the goal that kept us up?

  • 30 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:17 PM

    @26 toon kk

it def would be a bad thing yes !

seen too many teams go down and not come back up and tbh and with the money going around even though you cant buy the prem its far far easy to buy quality players to stay in the prem than it is to buy them with the peanuts the championship pays.

we are not that bad tbh we struggled with defensive errors giving results away at first but we now seem to have sorted most of that out (unless elliott gets injured again)
and now it seems like a hell of a lot of very easy chances are being missed that a lot of us would have thought the players who had those chances would have scored !

take the edge off those nerves by scoring one or 2 of those easy chances and we wont be in this position.

lets not forget we have proven performance wise we can compete with the arsenals/liverpools ect ect so we could get a result against most teams one our creases are ironed out.

  • 31 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:18 PM

  • 32 loonie-toon // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:19 PM

Would b great to have caroll n arma leading strike for us but Carroll to much of a risk e played about 4 games all season max I would pay for him 5 mill tops and how much u fink Gayle is valued at??

  • 33 Rotonda heights // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:27 PM

i’m guessing he doesn’t have to work too hard at it.

  • 34 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:28 PM

can someone explain why everyone is hot for shelvy, when he cant even start for a team that is getting relegated? I always thought he was a solid player, but why is he out of favor in swansea?

in addition, how could the asking price for carroll be 18M when its universally accepted the 15M they paid for him was a rip off??

  • 35 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:31 PM

Isn’t it perfectly normal for clubs to buy unwanted players from their relegation rivals in January?

  • 36 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:35 PM

And if he’s not unwanted, but merely benched, why would we be wasting time in a very short window chasing him?

  • 37 Munster Mag // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:37 PM

We need a few players but may have to stick with two. I would trust the defence to hang on, as Colo has improved. As such I’d go for a central midfielder and a striker but we need so much more. God knows what ideas Old Man Carr will come up with, but we need pace and power in both positions. Sadly, I dont think SMC is good enough

  • 38 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:38 PM

I don’t think Shelvey isn’t starting for Swansea because of his footballing quality, he’s been average this season for them but not terrible.

I’d be happy if he signed for us though he is a nasty little piece of work who has good vision and a good range of passing plus his eyes point forward. Also he’s available by the looks of it, relatively experienced and I think he would love playing for a club of our size

  • 39 toon kk // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:38 PM

Don’t get me wrong it’s the last thing I want is relegation, but MA has had chance after chance to strengthen our squad, we’ve often said we’re just a quality player or two away from being a decent side but what do we get? Usually our best player’s sold or no new signings at all. We’ve been a poor side for years, over rated by most fans for what ever reason? Maybe because they play in a black and white shirt. Tbh a kid could scout players better than the clueless clowns wasting money on two thirds of the players coming into the club.
Let’s just see what happens in this transfer window it will determine which league we’re in next season.

  • 40 hibbitt // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:40 PM

taco… shelvey has had a big fallout with huw jenkins the swansea chairmen over the sacking of garry monk

  • 41 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:40 PM

I realize its normal, the questions are:
1- why isnt he in the team
2- why is this the 2nd club in a row that doesnt want him
3-why is he in such high demand(im assuming its because hes young and english)

  • 44 hibbitt // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:43 PM

i feel the same as toonkk i don’t want to go down but its getting to the point were its unstoppable

  • 45 Slank // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:44 PM

A very reasonable question as to why Swansea, who are in relegation difficulties, think that Shelvey isn’t good enough to help them unless he is injured.

It would appear that every transfer window always includes a story about Carroll wanting to leave West Ham. If it is Carroll or/and his agent planting the story the conclusion must be in the absence of any comments to the contrary from West Ham that the club support the efforts to rid themselves of this player.

  • 46 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:46 PM

Shelvey has lost his place with England, Liverpool and now Swansea in very short order.
He appears downwardly mobile, at a time when we need to get upwardly mobile, sharpish.
So I come to my first point. If Swansea regard him as dispensable in THEIR relegation struggle, why would we view him as a key signing? (which they all will be, now.)
Don’t want to go down?…sell your duffers to your rivals. It’s a good plan.
It’s hard to believe it would be given credence anywhere but at this rudderless club, fairyland club.

  • 47 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:47 PM

    I was agreeing with you.
    It ISN’T normal!

  • 48 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:48 PM

its starting to look that way…still hoping the theres a few transfer that wow us and lift us out the mire but looking hard work to get anyone

  • 49 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:50 PM

Shelvey is a good player. It’s a pity we didn’t have the wherewithal to sign him from Liverpool in the first place. He’d be a great fit for us. Cracking long-range shot on him, although he doesn’t score too many.

  • 50 toon kk // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:52 PM

Fans have had there expectations slowly but surely lowered to the quality of player they firstly wanted and now expect.
MA way of running the club has seen to that.

  • 51 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:52 PM

while we are talking bout tranfer disappointments, i think it was VERY telling was Wini said the other day regarding he was told they are building a new team when he signed over the summer. If we dont splash cash, the fans arent the only people that are let down. I think its pretty humiliating to get dropped and if mgmt doesnt show the PLAYERS they are investing, this thing will unravel even faster than it has and we will certainly go down.

  • 52 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:52 PM

So wouldn’t a person without a cracking long range shot but who does score many be an an alternative worth exploring.

  • 53 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:54 PM

Tbf the only one of those Shelvey has played a decent amount for was Swansea, he never had the place to lose at England or Liverpool

  • 54 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:55 PM

    You are right.
    I overrated him.

  • 55 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 2:57 PM

It is worth bearing in mind in all of this that after the January 2013 “splurge” we didn’t sail up the table, but dropped a further place to 16th by the end of the season.

  • 56 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:00 PM

Haha he is still young bit tough on him to judge him not establishing himself at a top club yet

Overall he has been good for Swansea barring his fall out with the owner and he’s a better CM than we currently have id say especially going forward

Whether Swansea would allow him to leave for us I don’t know seems a daft thing to do I agree though it seems highly unlikely he can stay there and where else will he go?

  • 57 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:00 PM

exactly, imagine if we didnt spend…..

  • 58 Bri // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:02 PM

A fast, mobile and creative forward along with 3 other first teamers might just keep us up.So come on Charnley get a move on, providing their is any money available of course.

  • 59 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:05 PM

I think the point both Taco and I were making was that signing a player who can’t get into a relegation rival’s first 11 as a key player seems a bit world-gone-mad.
He may do well. He better had, really.
    How lucky do we feel?

  • 60 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:08 PM

We already have one goalscoring midfielder in Wijnaldum (and potentially another in de Jong, although that’s starting to look a forlorn hope). What we lack is a playmaker, and for that I’d say Shelvey fits the bill. To be fair, most long range shots are just a good chance for the goalkeeper to show off a bit anyway, but it gets you off seat at least, so nice to have someone in the team with that in his locker…

  • 61 Slank // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:10 PM

    WWSBRD @ 56

I wouldn’t say that Shelvey is better than our any of our midfield players. He is different.

He couldn’t replace either Tiote or Gini. His most noticeable attribute is his long range, almost always accurate, passing.

Could he operate alongside Tiote and Gini ? Probably as he brings attributes that neither Tiote or Gini possess.

However, he appears to have a suspect character which could rule him out unless the club thinks the risk is worth it.

  • 62 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:14 PM

still no transfer news yet then?….another slow start….you would think with our current situation there would be a lot more activity…or news even?

  • 63 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:16 PM

He may well have those qualities.
The point is that Swansea, if they let him go, would be conceding that they don’t think he will show them often enough in a relegation fight.
Are we that type of club, then, that’s obviously getting extra out of players?

  • 64 Slank // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:19 PM

I am of the opinion that Gini, Tiote and De Jong could operate in the midfield. Gini’s play is all about movement and getting into attacking positions. He has the stamina and energy to do this unlike De Jong who hasn’t.

De Jong has the ability to operate as a ‘Cabaye’ type midfield player. His range of passing is excellent as is his vision. McClaren should start the next game with the three of them. De Jong is very similar to Carrack.

  • 65 toon kk // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:20 PM

We’ve had the same problem for a long time, and that’s you Never know which Newcastle will turn up. Yes we’ve got our weaknesses but even when we turn up and play well we’ve always got the same problem- No cutting edge in front of goal, it’s costing us so many points. Here’s hoping for the top quality proven striker the club craves.
MA big question will be has he potential sell on value.

  • 66 Tsunki // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:22 PM

Unfortunately time and experience tell us that transfer windows are an exercise in dodging the chaff and flares being ejected by the media, agents and clubs in their complicated battle to horse trade, broker deals for their charges and sell stories to the all-believing, all hoping fans.

Speculation can be fun of course, but I’m guessing we’re as well to don’t the tin hats and hunker down for a barrage of rumours of the usual suspects of non-arrivals.

  • 70 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:28 PM

While I’ve seen the argument made that we go about our business in secret and then leave the world stunned, there are many more instances of our transfer dealings being highly public and drawn out sagas, with the name being in the frame for weeks until the deal is finally done (or not).
If that latter were the case, then the names in the frame so far may be the actual targets.
Let’s hope it is the former.

  • 71 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:29 PM

There’s obviously been a falling out there, but I wouldn’t expect a player to carry any grievance into his new club. The same with Townsend at Spurs (talking of pointless long-range shots…). If anything I’d expect a spike in form, with any potential attitude problems being a more long-term concern.

Montero is another player who can’t seem to get into their team. I wouldn’t mind him either.

  • 72 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:31 PM

You spent the first six months of last year trying to portray yourself as the ultimate, loyal fan, always there to cheer the lads on.
You compared your own support and loyalty favourably with everyone else’s in that smirking way of yours.
You spent the second six months of the year trying to re-invent yourself as the scourge of the board, the coaching team and the players, never thinking to offer much loyalty or support to them.
The one consistent has been your unbending and un-ending insistence that Ashley has nothing to do with any of this, and that the people he employed and continues to employ, without a hint of censure, bear the almost the entire blame.
The vast majority of your posts are specious attempts to show that Ashley’s methods are fair and reasonable, throwing out and standing by conjured up figures, while demanding anyone who dissents provides “the links” to support their own case. Links you could easily find yourself if you weren’t determined not to waste a precious moment of the WUM time that got you ejected from a rival blog.
You are loyal to Ashley and massively disloyal and unsupportive of those staff members charged with trying to function within the mess of your hero’s operating restrictions.

  • 73 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:39 PM

Mine was a simple, no frills question. You mention losses in NUFC. All the more reason for NUFC to charge the full commercial amount.

You mention the repayment of the loan and the tax man. The advertising revenue to NUFC would allow NUFC to repay more of his loan, which is a tax free extraction.

You mention SD profits. SD could pay the full going rate and still get the massive returns which the advertising allegedly brings. I’m talking about the actual cost of the advertising not the so called “enormous” benefits to SD as a result of it.

My question still stands unanswered IMO.

  • 74 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:43 PM

It sounds bad true but he’s only not playing because of outside football issues. Last season people crowed over Swansea and Shelvey was a stand out player for them, this season he hasn’t hit those heights but Seansea have been terrible which isn’t entirely down to him

Tiote can’t do what Tiote is good at anymore mate and Gini plays on the wing because he can’t break up the Colback Anita partnership. Shelvey comes in he is starting CM imo

As for attitude NUFC go for attitude players because they are cheaper. Mitro has attitude issues, Benny did, Barton did etc etc

  • 75 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:44 PM

my take on shelvey and why i personally like him is purely his attributes and stature in the game !

he reminds me a lot of gerrard/nolan in being a noticable player in the middle who can do everything and keeps things simple.

he’s not without inconsistancy but when he’s playing with confidence and motivation he’s one hell of a player.

  • 76 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:46 PM

I ask for links because I can’t find it. I’ve also found when I’ve actually asked for the link it’s not forthcoming.

I mow ask you for any posts of mine which show what you’re saying is right. I can stand by every post. I have said the buck stops with Ashley. I’ve predicted this mess. I’ve criticised Carr and Charnley as being useless when others have defended them. I’ve argued against bloggers who criticise Ashley for ansolutely everything. There’s plenty of stuff to throw at Ashley without exaggeration and lies. Such crap just undermines the legitimate criticism of him.

I think you’re in a mood at the minute. Go and dig up some my quotes and contrast them. Prove your point.

  • 77 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:47 PM

His fall from grace has surprised me. I don’t know why it has happened, but it has.
My question is whether he will find the stable, nurturing and positive environment at a relegation threatened NUFC to put our fortunes into reverse.
We are looking for a rock to throw a rope around as we sink here. Is he, with his falling out etc, it?

  • 78 Pitmatic // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:51 PM

de Jong just hasn’t shown anywhere near enough for me. Hard to say if it’s fitness or not, but he reminds me of a 40-year-old Teddy Sheringham, expecting to get by on guile alone. Hopefully he can chip in with a couple of big goals at some point, but I wouldn’t be building a three-man midfield around him.

I didn’t see Tiote’s return to form at the weekend, but hopefully he can keep it up through the rest of the season, before being pensioned off to Russia or wherever in the summer. Like Cisse, he’s been magnificent for us at his best, so it’d be nice to end on a high note, despite the various lows.

  • 79 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:52 PM

Being a loyal fan cheering the team on is not incompatible with being the scourge of the Board. So where does reinventing oneself come in? You’re so in love with your own prose, you get carried away.

  • 80 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:55 PM

Why don’t you dig them out?
That’s what you’d tell me to do.

    On the subject of lies.
The other night you advanced a figure of £5m as you “top end” estimate of what billboard advertising was worth to SD.
When another poster suggested £20m, you dismissed this as risible on the grounds that the figures had never been revealed anywhere.
Disregarding the obvious fact that you’d shot down your own figure too, you stuck by it, rather in the way Toon Darn Sarf, your replacement on the other blog, used to.
Repeat the lie until it becomes the truth is exactly your style.

  • 81 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:56 PM

Also, I spent ages arguing against posters whose extreme anti -Ashley views went unchallenged. I’ve made my points and it’s now not nearly so bad on here. I still chip in from time to time when I hear nonsense spouted or to try to get more information myself on the finances.

  • 82 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 3:58 PM

    @78 pit

    i personally agree via siem.

when he first signed and watching the 2 friendlies he played for us i was thinking wow this is the missing link !

since his latest injury and even in his second to last game which was his best performance for us since his injury imo he just has not shown me anything !

no vision/accurate passing/perfect timings of runs or accuracy and power in his shots in fact not anything that made me think WOW about him when he first came.

really hope all our players find their best form though but if i was to have a bet i’d bet on river having a lot more impact than siem.

  • 83 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:00 PM

Same with Swansea was he the reason they fell or is he a victim of a failing team?
In an ideal world I would have better but we are where we are and we need player better than what we have and he certainly fits that bill imo

  • 84 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:00 PM

Neither is having anti-Ashley views incompatible with supporting the team, a charge you and your fellow apologists have tried to smear others with repeatedly.

  • 85 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:00 PM

Why don’t I dig them out? You’re the one making silly allegations you can’t support.

So you give one example. You say I dismissed it as risible. Quote me. Show me what I said other than ask for a link. Cannyou provide thevlink btw. You sem to think it’s easy to find so do me a favour.

  • 86 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:03 PM

So he fell victim of a failing team.
Good luck to him here, then.

  • 87 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:04 PM

    You are doing it again.

  • 88 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:04 PM

Don’t do as I do, do as I say.

  • 89 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:04 PM

Haha am not suggesting he is the only player we bring in

  • 90 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:06 PM

    BandB @84
So you agree. So what’s it got to do with being incompatible or reinventing oneself?

Having anti-ashley views is only incompatible with supporting the team in such circumstances as when you boycott the games and urge others to do the same especially in a relegation battle where thecteam needs your support. With fans like you we’d already be relegated. You didn’t think the fans could make any difference on the final day as I seem to recall.

  • 91 lesh // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:09 PM

The Gayle interest has all the trappings of Pardew leaking this to the media. He’s taking the pi$$ out of us!

    I hope so anyway.

  • 92 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:09 PM

No quotes from BandB. Now you’re in your box please stay there. You’re clearly smarting with long term issues and they’ve built up until you’re in a mood. Innocent readers might get the idea we’re married if you keep sniping at me periodically.

  • 93 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:10 PM

    Me neither.

I’m happy with the points I’ve made.
    Thank you for your input.

  • 94 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:12 PM

You should’ve been there on the final day to see Jonas’ heroics. Unforgettable. I pity fans like you who miss out, preferring to snipe at others who supported the team’s cause and not your own.

  • 95 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:12 PM

And I’m in a bad mood and can’t handle my emotions ….periodically.

What a transparent chump you are.

  • 96 Bri // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:13 PM

Just thinking even if we do sign players would any body trust that lot to bring in the quality and also in the positions that need strengthening because i wouldn’t.

  • 97 santon3 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:14 PM

I would love to get Andy back, sometimes player coming home usually do much better like Shearer and Beardsley. I would gamble to get Andy back but probably not for 18mil, it’s just westham being an @ss they bought him for that amount and don’t want to lose.
Definitely Andy compared to all strikers being linked to us so far.

  • 98 reilly // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:15 PM

Foot Mercato: Newcastle are in close discussions with Bordeaux over Henri Saivet with an asking fee of £3m.

  • 99 lesh // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:15 PM

It must occur to Charnley that we need key players in now!

He obviously doesn’t understand the need to start winning games!

Me, transparent? I pride myself on it. I know transparency when I see it and so do many others.

    @98 reilly

saivet is the sort of players i’m expecting tbh !

he’s a bargain and tbh a very good player ! all be it def not a player we are in desp need of lol.

another dm to add to the 3 we all ready have ! even though he is better than what we do have i still dont think macca will play only 1 if he does sign >.<

  • 103 Bri // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:25 PM

Hope you weren’t caught out by those lady boys.

  • 104 BandB // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:27 PM

I recall you claiming I’d called you “worse than sh*t” back in May.
I recall several posters saying they didn’t remember that, and asking you to provide those short quotes.
    We are still waiting.

And sticking your own hand up in the air is a faintly embarrassing thing to do. Not that you’d realise.

    I’m off now. Have fun.

  • 105 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:28 PM

hopefully its true that nantes are wanting obertan whoohoo

  • 106 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:29 PM

there’s a lack of recognition of our current predicament from macca up,the players are saying the right things they know we are in a fight and they periodically show a performance that shows that but macca seems like he’s wearing blinkers and cant see the shit were in and charnley and carr for that matter are hiding behind there pillows hoping the big nasty monster(relegation) goes away…..wheres the fight from them….a statement of intent….but theres nowt?

  • 107 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:31 PM

tiote to china for £8mil !

  • 108 WWSBRD // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:32 PM

  • 109 Belfast // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:33 PM

I say I say Skunki there’s not too many blogs have their own vicar who’s in finance. Stop complaining !

  • 110 JamesToon // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:33 PM

    RE the Gayle/Carroll links.

I’d take carroll, for no more than £9mil, and Gayle for no more than £6mil. Carroll is a big target man who still loves us, and would bring passion and can bring a much better long ball outlet when we’re under pressure/can’t play out the back. While Gayle has the pace to get in behind defences and cause problems.

I’d prefer Remy on loan till the end of the season, along with Townsend on loan, Jonjo Shelvey, Andrew Robertson and Joel Matip

  • 111 santon3 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:35 PM

    is Alan Dzagoev good striker?

  • 112 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:36 PM

    @108 wwsbrd

he was mate but he’s really come into his own since being made into a dm/cm.

  • 115 Munster Mag // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:38 PM

I think we know there is money there to spend – at the very least there is the summer money that can be brought forward – although that summer money may be predicated on the Sky money and presuming we stay up. I think we will see 20m spent. Therse – said it. But what that gets you in January, i dont know. Re Austin, the simple fact os that he scored 18 goals for a poor QPR team in the prem. That has to say something surely? I dont know him well as a player but 18 goals is 18 goals and the qpr players revere him.

  • 116 Munster Mag // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:41 PM

Lets just hope SMC wraps Wini, Tiote and Mitro in cotton wool because we cant afford injuries to them. Tiote could turn our season around.

  • 117 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:42 PM

I vaguely recall that and that I replied and justified that statement. If you can cite the quote with date and time that you’re talking about and I’ll endeavour to find the justification that I gave.

  • 118 croftus5678 // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:42 PM

    @115 munster

do we know his goals per shots ratio compared to cisse/mitrovic ect ?

i’d have thought it would have been a lot better but you never know.

  • 119 SPRINGY // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:43 PM

my views on these are…i like the idea of bringin carroll back but his fitness and price are not good so not for me unless its a 8m deal or something daft like that, gayle has want we need in pace and work rate but dont if he has premier league quality,he may just need a run of games in a side, so unsure tbh,5m deal maybe….but saying that, what other strikers are realistically are we going to be in for…..or that are willing to join us?

  • 120 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:45 PM

    Mrs BandB
It may not be today. I’m at work till 11pm. I also need to recharge my mobile battery. But I should be able to carry out a search tomorrow. Hold me to it.

  • 121 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 5, 2016 at 4:51 PM

I’d remind you that only yesterday you asked me to support my claim that you’d been calling me, as if you never had. I went back to your three previous posts and cited three derogatory comments. What does that yell you? Probably nothing when rationality is absent. And don’t say I don’t adore the fairer sex because I do. I’m a man of the world too so know a good deal about them.

  • 122 Ravostag // Jan 5, 2016 at 8:08 PM

Much better value than Austin and overated foreigners sign him up
