Conflicting Reports On Newcastle’s Attempt To Sign Striker

7:41 am, Thursday, January 7th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

There were various reports out yesterday about Newcastle’s attempts to get Alexandre Lacazette to Newcastle in January, but it was always going to be difficult to attract a player who has said many times in the past that if he leaves Lyon he wants to move to a Champions League club.

With Newcastle 3rd bottom of the Premier League we have slipped alarmingly in the last year and have been fighting for our Premier League lives, as other smaller clubs like Leicester City, Watford, West Ham and Crystal Palace – to name just four – have flourished.

Alexandre Lacazette – not coming to Newcastle

The initial report was that a £25M bid had been made by Newcastle to Lyon for the 24 year-old striker bit then various reports following the news in L’Equipe disputed that.

Here are the various follow-up reports that came out yesterday – some of which we are sure were just made up:

  • No bid was made and Newcastle were puzzled about the L’Equipe report – although the club remains interested in the player
  • Newcastle did make the bid and it was accepted by Lyon but Alexandre turned us down
  • Lyon and Newcastle couldn’t agree on the fee for the striker

There are some big clubs interested in Lacazette should he become available – and we don’t think Newcastle  now have much chance of signing this player.

We missed our chance a couple of years ago before we started to go south and Lacazette started to improve.

With our terrible record over the last year it will be very difficult to get good players in this January.

But that’s exactly what we have to do if we are survive in the Premier League this season and then really build for the future this summer.

Comments welcome.

This is what Elliot has said…..

Newcastle go into the tie at Vicarage Road in deep trouble and in one of the relegation places. When asked if the FA Cup was still going to be taken seriously this season, Elliot told the Chronicle: “Of course, the FA Cup is the biggest competition outside the Premier League.

“To go on a cup run or win the FA Cup makes you a legend at this place. That’s something we need to do. We have to give everything to win the Watford game.

“It also breeds confidence to take into the league if we win. I think it’s a brilliant game for us and we should attack it.

“It will kick-start the new year even more. If we take the confidence and attitude forward from Arsenal then hopefully that can only be a good thing for the club.

Of cause the reality could be a lot different.

Morning Ron…the same one that played Arsenal 😉 that was an easy one! lol

firebug…we have problems uniting because we cannot agree on a means to and end!

…maybe the means shouldn’t be that important. Their are plenty of fronts to fight Ashley from. This seasons to be a problem for a lot of posters who just want us to come on here and say “Ashley out”!

If we were united then should it really matter if we are charging him (Ashley) at different fronts?

There is only one way to get Ashley’s attention, I said it before and often on here, Attack his SD empire, Rangers showed it, and when it was threatened here Ashley made his statement.

Football protests, fans discontent, Ashley out campaigns, or booing the players means nothing at all to Ashley. But protesting SD or even just the threat of it has him wobbling out with all sorts of offers and concessions.

If you want to bend Ashley you have to go for his beloved SD.
