Steve McClaren has said everyone is angry at Newcastle and that’s after the fourth time in succession that we have been eliminated in the third round of the FA Cup, and that’s even after a goal this season was to win a cup.
Newcastle are also third bottom of the league with just 17 points from 20 league games – so frustration is starting to overflow with the long-suffering Newcastle fans.
And that’s especially true after the absolutely pathetic performance of the side under John Carver in the second half of last season when we got 13 points from 19 games.
Steve McClaren on the touchline today
John Carver should never have been appointed to that position in the first place – it was way over his head – but then absolutely nothing was done about it and we nearly ended up being relegated on the final day of last season.
We were simply very lucky not to be a Championship club this season.
But then this season seems almost like a continuation of last season’s complete nightmare for Geordie fans.
🙁
It’s just that something is seriously wrong at Newcastle these days – the club is being so poorly run from the top.
The traveling fans at the game even turned on Florian Thauvin singing – “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” – and at the end there was booing from the extremely frustrated fans.
After the game today this is what embattled Newcastle manager Steve McClaren had to say to BBC Sport:
“You cannot ask any more from the players, we have to get on with it, that is the nature of football.” “Players have to be big enough, bold enough, have courage and we have spoken about that.”
“Everyone is frustrated, we are angry, the same as them and the players are disappointed. We went to Arsenal and the performance was terrific.”
“It’s very frustrating, they had one opportunity there, from one mistake. We totally controlled the game and created chances. That’s football, you have to stick the ball in at one end and defend at the other.
“We came here to win, we came here with a strong team and we had a different system. We controlled the game. We played to win, we went to win and everyone is frustrated; everyone is angry.”
What we need now is a win against Manchester United at home on Tuesday night.
So somebody needs to score a goal for us at St. James’ Park on Tuesday night – or even an own goal would do it.
Comments welcome.

Comment #43Will Steve ever realise that performances mean nothing if you don’t get results. He can harp on and on about Arsenal as much as he wants but we lost then, and we’ve lost today. It’s more empty words from an empty man.

Comment #45Same team against Man U . Well really he hasn’t a whole lot of options.
Well JT if Cashley does start selling the crown jewels then it’s the end because last time he did we got away with it – just! but bouncing back straight away just won’t happen again with this shower

Comment #48We are in much more trouble at the moment than we ever were last year, why? Because teams above and below us are improving and strengthening. Bournemouth are about to make their second signing in Afobe and just beat Birmingham with their 2nd string team featuring a load of teens who’ve never made a senior appearance before!!!
Just shows how badly run out club is

Please no more foreigners, we need players who know the league and are ready to fight NOW not players who may need 10 games to get used to the league

Comment #54What a surprise…another early cup exit. Hey, it was to Watford though.
Can anyone seriously tell me how we’re better off now, than we were a year ago? Is anyone still arguing that the club called it right in the summer? Did enough? Made a bold statement?
As per usual, it seems like hot air with little delivery.
BandB…Has anyone stabbed a guess at the retail value for the development? From my experience, building costs for a site are usually in the 30-40% bracket, so circa £100m maybe? That’s a nice tidy profit for MASH holdaings in there. Still, Mike isn’t taking anything out of the club. Check the accounts. No wages, dividends…he hasn’t even recalled his loan!
I can forgive another early cup exit, as long as Mike continues to try his hardest.

Comment #55Forget Remy .He’s going to Palace as Pards said he’s not interested in him or Shelvey you watch.
Springy you’re right Berehino has put on loads of weight & is also trouble which we’ve got by the shedload.
When is Carr going to pluck his next rabbit out of the hat? Soon I hope but all these players being mention are just hope value. In the position we are in we just can’t wait till the last week of the window when prices start to inflate anyway. We need to start recruiting now & getting rid of the dross.

Comment #56I’ve been reading this blog for many years and this is the first time I’ve posted. Today’s defeat yet again proves that the club is ripe for relegation if drastic action is not taken. We are crying out for a goal poacher like Austin. A creative central midfielder who isn’t afraid to put in a shift for the team. Shelvey in my mind is no worldbeater but with his premier league experience he could be just what we need for the difficult run in we have also a centre back. And left full back are a must a winger would be nice aswell maybe Philips at Qpr. All in all 5 players fifty million would be a good net spend. And if we can clear some of the dead wood all the better.

understand mate but who?…..we are struggling to get players from abroad who probs dont see the nightmare this club has become every week and are alot cheaper…decent premier league players will be giving us a very wide berth and alot more money….but if we manage to sign some great but struggling to see that happen…..shelvey maybe?

Comment #5854 Sheltered housing might be a good bet. At least there would be an option for some of these none performing players when they find themselves out of work.

Comment #64McLaren is now on the bare bones but he still won’t pick Riviere, Marvaux, Gouffy & for some unknown reason Aarons. Taylor &Obertan have overstayed their sick leave & should be only on Statuary Sick Pay like most of the rest of Tyneside would under normal situations. It’s a joke if there not good enough get rid or at the very least replace with some better quality. We have to watch number in squad though & injuries is certainly not helping this situation

Comment #69All we are saying is give us a goal. If we do manage to score a goal on Tuesday, Manure will probably score 2.
Can’t wait for the day when Ashley sells up. The club is in a shocking mess run by a bunch of second raters not worthy of NUFC.

Comment #71Will Colo be fit for Man U ?or will it be Willo the Weak or even Saylor who should be back this week. Mouthwatering prospects but most likely the promising Lascelles – a man bought for the future!

Comment #72I hope for and expect a reaction against Manure – who are vulnerable anyway.
Anger can be a good motivator.
I think we’ll beat them with another performance like the 3-0 a few years back.
But that could be a mixed blessing. All that does managerially is muddy the waters – Ashley will be getting mixed messages – after 5 games with one goal we score 3 even 4 and he’ll think we’ve turned a corner. Should have had 3 today from the chances wasted. Unlike some I think Mitro will come good and be a top scorer – he is taking longer to settle than we had hoped and has been starved of service in a lot of games.
We still need 4 players. LB CB playmaker AM ST.
Today good players who will adapt quickly are more likely to start at around £15m than £10m. And we have just over three weeks to strengthen the team. I still believe the club will bottle it.

I think we yoked half the horse to the cart in the summer and then said “hang on a bit….let’s see how he manages that first.”
Now the cart is going round in circles, the poor old horse is dizzy, and the harness is wrecked.

Comment #79it’s fine lines in the last few matches we’ve missed chances, made defensive mistakes, conceded a late goal, had some good performances. the defence has considerable improved. sooner or later you would think the balance will just tip the other way and Man U who are almost as poor in front of goal will hopefully be it.

McClaren played a shrewd game today.
ManU will be lulled into thinking there’s no need to worry about defending and we’ll be free to hammer them!
A cunning plan eh.
