Saivet Deal Agreed – McClaren Comments – Bordeaux Confirm Deal

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren today mentioned Henri Saivet is at Newcastle to have a medical prior to him hopefully signing on at Newcastle on a five year deal – but Steve would go no further than that.

Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol also confirmed during his press conference that a deal had been agreed between the two clubs.

The news broke earlier today in L’Equipe that a deal had been agreed between the clubs and personal terms with the player had also been agreed.

Henri Saivet – undergoing medical at Newcastle

Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol said a deal had been agreed with Newcastle for Saivet and  Ligue 1 club tweeted confirmation.

Translation:

W. #Sagnol press conference : “NUFC and Girondins have agreed on the transfer of Saivet_Henri.”

At his press conference for the game against Manchester United at home tomorrow night Steve McClaren had this to say:

“I think everybody would say in January we need to strengthen and we’d like to strengthen. We will have to wait and see.”

“We are doing our business quietly and privately. With this one with Henri we will wait until it’s done before we comment.”

“We are at a sensitive stage where we are going through a medical and negotiating a contract.” “I’ve seen these deals fall through and everybody has egg on their face.”

“People can get left upset but all I can say is he’s in the building.” “When it’s all done and signed we will talk about his assets and what he will bring to the team.”

Let’s hope this one goes through – and quickly.

We’re also linked with Burnley’s Andre Gray who has 15 goals and 5 assists in 22 appearances this season, however it would be an initial loan then a £12million deal in the summer.

Would love Gray, very pacey striker, proven to a certain level, i think with his form and with his pace and physicality he would flourish in the premier league. Would probably prefer him than spending £18m on berahino.

Saivet is now in, no idea really what type of player he is, had a look on FM and they reckon he’s fairly fast and is more of an attacking midfielder rather than defensive. As long as we get Shelvey i’m happy, as no doubt Saivet will take time to settle in if he’s any good, just keeping my fingers crossed that he’ll be one of carr’s rare “gems”.

Obviously with Gray there are the FIFA rules where you can’t play for more than 2 clubs in a season (i think??) so the loan would get by the rule then we buy him in the summer. However I’m not sure burnley will want to sell considering he’s their top scorer

he’s apparently one of the best 2 cm in ligue 1 in the first half of the season and his manager says he has been the most important player for bordeaux in the last 6mth…so needs a chance but also needs hit the ground running like you say

From what i hear about saivet, he’s a creative midfielder which is really what we need, but not gonna judge him till he actually plays, just hope he’s not another french flop

“He has an above average technique, is powerful with great vision and acceleration skills. He also has good dribbling and passing skills, and as I said before is a great tackler. However, he can be quite inconsistent against defensive teams, but I wouldnt worry too much in the Premier league about that 🙂 Best position in my opinion, box-to-box. He started as a striker, and then a winger until last august when Sagnol moved him in the central midfield of our team.” (Local fan on youtube today)?

Judging by the reactions it’s fair to say that nobody can confidently say this is a good signing. Some people have said he’s a striker, a winger or even an attacking mid. I’ve only seen him play in previous years on the wing or up front. This year however, his better performances reportedly have been using his energy and power to break up play and win the ball. I haven’t seen this so can’t comment but if he is coming in with shelvey then I can see that being our new midfield partnership which I think could mesh really well.

If we sign Shelvey and Saivet why would we need Tiote ? Anyway Tiote is starting to show his age after long periods of injury have taken their toll and it seems he fancies a £3m move to an Arab league anyway. What we should be more concerned about is scant mention of recruiting any defenders – they are a priority.

Is Saviet a replacement for someone who will be allowed to leave such as Tiote , De Jong ( depending on his health and fitness and playing time – I would hope he stays , just needs time ) or someone else ?
    Any ideas ?

We should get a result tomorrow. Man Utd are one of the worst teams in the league. They should be in the bottom 5 going by their performances and players.

I would say Tiote is probably offski. Somebody high on the pay scale will be leaving anyway. I’d rather get rid of Goufrann and Marveaux myself.

Fantastic stuff from nufc here, they’ve acted swiftly and thoroughly

We desperately need goals and discipline so they rushed out and bought this CF, well he was a CF, but he didn’t score many goals, so he become a winger, but he struggled there so he became a holding midfielder, which is great, because we’re lacking there…..

Well done Lee, you’ve signed the new Alan Smith, seriously he even plays as many games as Smithy!

    Canny stuff

Why would we need tiote? he’s the only one who’s physically dominant and decent at breaking up attacks, colback and anita too lightweight

does anyone actually know what kind of player saivet is? what he’s good at? I heard he’s played in positions such as DM, CM, winger and striker?? Sounds like another gouffran..

I see what you’re saying but our midfield isn’t exactly a strength and hasn’t been for some time. As a team we need strengthening all over the pitch. The club decided to add to the midfield because currently we have tiote, Anita and colback. With rumours of tiote leaving they have went for these two. I would like a clinical striker brought in after shelvey.

This is not what we need unless a player is going the other way.

Worst case scenario. Steve Mc has got sick of wijnaldum cutting in when asked to play out wide so will trade him for this guy!!!! Don’t think that even we’re that stupid..

I’d like to think Marvraux of the list for him. In which case will save some lovely lolly, and Penfold will be happy
