Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren today mentioned Henri Saivet is at Newcastle to have a medical prior to him hopefully signing on at Newcastle on a five year deal – but Steve would go no further than that.
Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol also confirmed during his press conference that a deal had been agreed between the two clubs.
The news broke earlier today in L’Equipe that a deal had been agreed between the clubs and personal terms with the player had also been agreed.
Henri Saivet – undergoing medical at Newcastle
Bordeaux manager Willy Sagnol said a deal had been agreed with Newcastle for Saivet and Ligue 1 club tweeted confirmation.
W. #Sagnol en conférence de presse : “@NUFC et les @girondins sont tombés d’accord sur le transfert de @Saivet_Henri.”

Translation:
W. #Sagnol press conference : “NUFC and Girondins have agreed on the transfer of Saivet_Henri.”
At his press conference for the game against Manchester United at home tomorrow night Steve McClaren had this to say:
“I think everybody would say in January we need to strengthen and we’d like to strengthen. We will have to wait and see.”
“We are doing our business quietly and privately. With this one with Henri we will wait until it’s done before we comment.”
“We are at a sensitive stage where we are going through a medical and negotiating a contract.” “I’ve seen these deals fall through and everybody has egg on their face.”
“People can get left upset but all I can say is he’s in the building.” “When it’s all done and signed we will talk about his assets and what he will bring to the team.”
Let’s hope this one goes through – and quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81I think we need to give this lad a chance before writing him off. Not many of us know how good he is, but he seems to be given a good report since moving to CM from the wing. He’ll likely replace Anita or Colback, whilst still being capable of getting forward and scoring or assisting. Seems to take a decent free kick from the vids I’ve seen as well. As for Shelvey, I think he’s a player with something to prove to Swansea and we’ve suffered enough at his hands to know how good he can be. Proven English player who wants his place back in the England squad. Berahino has shown he can score in the PL, but clearly isn’t match fit. Is he the answer? Difficult one. Austin is injured and we don’t know how long he’s out for. Arma would take those chances we keep missing without question, but is it fair to pile all our survival hopes on an 18 year old kid? Probably not. We need a proven
goalscorer regardless of who it is or how much they cost. I believe Mitro will come good, but we haven’t got time to wait.

Comment #83Saviet is not a defensive midielder. He’s mainly a winger.

100% give him a chance, I hope to god he doesn’t bother reading these blogs and twitter before signing on the dotted line, he would be back in France without bothering to repack his stuff.
The lad has played at SJP in 2012 when we beat Bordeaux 3-0 to go top of the table.

Comment #87Can’t help but think if we are signing this guy and Shelvey that the club are lining up a Sissoko sale. Saivet can play on the wing so it wouldn’t surprise me if we are without Sissoko come the start of February.

Sissoko going nowhere atm. The board are shit scared of relegation it’s now obvious the pressure is on and he’s an essential part of survival.

Fair point but have you seen the morons on the board?
