Two Deals On The Burner For Newcastle This Week

7:05 am, Monday, January 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

Newcastle fans are simply fed up and angry at Newcastle´s position in the Premier League in 3rd bottom place.

In addition to that the terrible form the team has shown over the last 13 months has made it nothing short of a nightmare for the fans – make that a living nightmare for the fans.

And it was all topped off with a 3rd round exit in the FA Cup on Saturday at Watford – the fourth time in a  row we have been eliminated in the 3rd round.

So if the people who got us into this mess can move with some ambition and some urgency this month (yes – we know that´s asking a lot) and get three or four good players in then that would go a long way towards saving us from relegation and it could also (maybe) make the fans a bit happier too.

There is some good news in the Chronicle today that the club have held a high level transfer meeting this week with Chief Scout Graham Carr in Newcastle to talk through the targets with Managing Director Lee Charnley.

Whether the manager Steve McClaren was involved the report doesn´t say, but Steve seems to be on the outside looking in – which is ridiculous and one reason we are in the mess we are.

But that´s what he signed up for in June – Graham Carr is in charge of the transfers..

We are supposed to be wanting to sign two or three players in the January transfer window.

Mike Williamson and Shane Ferguson are close to moves out of the club and it seems the two players we want into the club this week if possible are Bordeaux’s Henri Saivet and Swansea City’s midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

Those are both midfielders who can both play in central midfield.

We hope we can get both players into the club,  but we also need two strikers brought in this month – and the quicker the better.

And by Saturday night we will have played another two Premier League games and only have 16 to play, so the Newcastle Board had better get a move on.

    Morning jesper

    Lee Ryder again:

“Saivet did have reservations over a move to Tyneside due to United’s precarious position in the table, but Newcastle will look to convince the player of the move.”

I like the sense of urgency!

RIP David Bowie, according to the BBC.

Leeds wanted Willo in the summer, and I saw reports they were still interested. The club seem to be holding out for too much cash on this so why not propose Willo plus a bit of cash for Byram? Replace one ageing player who isn’t good enough, with a youngster who has good potential and would also offer competition now to Janmaat, as Janmaat desperately needs a kick up the backside to step up his game again. Competition would give him that.

Excellent point. Hope the club are thinking on those lines.

Also rather surprised at the poll for man of the match. Thauvin 3rd? It appears as though he has had a sympathy vote from those who have never seen him play, never mind having had to suffer the usual half hearted crap from himon Saturday.

Give another chance or show him the door? I’d know which I’d chose. Hopefully he is the high earner we need to shed to allow for a purchase.

We better get these in before the Man Utd, because if there is a revolt then nobody will want to sign.

Yeah I can’t understand why it seems quite quiet on Byram, nobody dashing in to snap him up. Only seen him on a few sky games but he looks a proper player. Reminds me of Gary Speed in his work rate and tenacity, and IMO he will probably end up an all round midfielder. It would be a classic steal if we could get him I for a reasonable fee with Willo the make weight!

We need a striker who can finish and also create chances for himself – Mitrovic is a poor Shola

They had transfer talks last week? Didn’t they have transfer talks a few weeks ago to identify targets for this window?

Ffs, Charnley get the hell out of it!

  • 12 lesh // Jan 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM

If the supposed talks excluded McClaren, the Charnley’s even more clueless than I thought. Talking to Carr and keeping McC out of things is just terrible man-management. No surprise there though
