Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren has just named his team for the tough home game against Manchester United tonight – and the game will be watched by Newcastle’s two new signings – Henri Saivet from Bordeaux and Jonjo Shelve from Swansea.
Newcastle: Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini (c), Dummett, Sissoko, Colback, Tiote, Wijnaldum, Perez, Mitrovic
Subs: Darlow Lascelles Sterry Gouffran de Jong Marveaux Toney
So it looks like both Kevin Mbabu and Florian Thauvin didn’t make the game through injury niggles and in comes Jack Colback for Kevin Mbabu.
The two new players will be introduced to the crowd at St. James’ Park at 7:30 – just 15 minutes before the game starts.
Hopefully that will give the fans and the players a big lift – help is on the way.
But first things first and the lads must go all out to try to get all 3 points tonight.
This is what Steve McClaren has said about the game tonight and he has asked the fans to support the team throughout the game – whatever happens:
“We desperately need the fans on our side,” “We need a similar atmosphere to what they produced against Liverpool and Everton, so they can get behind the players and get the place rocking.”
“It can really bring the performance out of the team and we’ll need that against Manchester United.”
“You’d say a goalless draw is the odds-on result,” “Then again, it could be 3-3 and everyone breaks their duck. You just don’t know. We just want to start well and put in a good performance.”
“Manchester United are a dangerous team with very good players who can control a game and hurt you on their day. We’ve got to make sure they don’t.”
“They’re still title contenders, I think everyone in the top six or seven has it in them to go on a good run of games and Manchester United are more than capable of doing that.”
“We need to keep doing what we’ve been doing with our performance, but make sure we finish off at the other end.”
“We can take something from our performance at Old Trafford earlier in the season and be a side that’s hard to beat, hopefully show some end product and get the right result.”
Just over one in three fans think we can win this game – let’s hope they are right.
Just less than one in two fans think we will lose this game.

Comment #2Good business this tbf getting Shelvey
Adds some boll0x to our midfield and takes away a direct relegation rivals spine
Be even better if it means we don’t have to witness Colback flouncing around in midfield every week!!
Oh and £8 mil for Tiote? Start the car…..hopefully the last time he gets booked for us tonight

Comment #5That line up shows why we need to keep going this window
Hoping Shelvey will see Schteve re invent our horrid formation which sees our 2 most creative central midfielders pushed out on to the wings leaving the most negative central midfield imaginable

Comment #9So we play brilliantly against Arsenal, Wijnaldum gets moved into a central role.
Then HOW OBVIOUS was it that the deluded & clueless Mclaren would bottle it & shaft him back on the wing & go for the rotten, losing streak of 4-4-2.
Sack this clown already.

Comment #13Can’t believe Jack (Useless) Colback is starting. Stupid steve. Marveaux should be starting. About time he was on the bench. Steve is a lunatic. Signing Saivet to play him as a defensive midfielder when he’s a winger/attacking midfielder. Playing Gouffran as a dm instead of a striker and finally keep playing Dummett instead of Mbabu. He’s the problem.

Comment #14Sign Raphael Guerriero, Koulibaly, Townsend and Remy and lets call it a day.
All we’d need to do is tweak in the summer. Sign and sell one or two.

————–Elliot
Janny—-Chancel—Colo—Dummy
——-Colback—-Tiote
Sissoko—–Gini Wij—–Perez
———–Mitro
but knowing Schteve, he’ll revert to a 442, put gini out on the wing and then bring on another defender when we’re losing, you know, to draw the counter attack, like at Palace, ffs
We should be up and at the worst Man U side in years.

Comment #20It reads more like a 4-4-1-1 to me.
Twitter official has it as a 4-4-2. Nufc.co.uk has it as a 4-2-3-1

Comment #35Newcastle have made there second signing Will Hoare from Crystal Palace after impressing in his trial.
Don’t know much about him but some Palace fans state he’s one for the future and Palace were stupid to let him go. He’ll join the development squad.

Comment #39Seems we’re starting to realize now that it’s currently XP players we need not futures.
great deal signing this player but i’ve still got one concern, if we’re going to sign this guy and use him in CM does that indicate wini himself will remain on the wing?
Subs bench today has got marvo on, no better than thauvin that’s for sure guess thauvin must have some injury and why no arrons, does mac have less belief in him than pardew had in abeid or are we intent in selling him?
