Even More Reason Newcastle Need New Striker This Month

2:44 pm, Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

More bad news on the injury front for Newcastle as Papiss Cisse, who we were told could be back in training this week has received  more expert opinions on the condition of his groin and he will now undergo surgery for his groin problem.

Cisse is expected to be out for two to three months, so that would take us towards the end of April with only a few weeks left in the season – so effectively he’s out for the season.

Papiss Cisse – out for two to three months

Papiss has had a number of injury problems these last couple of years which have kept him on the sidelines at Newcastle.

And that’s even more reason now why Newcastle need to get one and preferably two strikers signed this month – maybe one on loan.

McClaren has revealed the club have had a number of specialist opinions on Cisse, and they were told could give it a try and see how it goes – but the club have decided the right thing to do is for the Senegal striker to undergo surgery.

Newcastle are now short of strikers and surely we must sign at least one striker soon?

Jonjo Shelvey (and Henri Saivet) should add some scoring power but we need an experienced out and out striker brought in – and the sooner the better.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

So thats Krul , Cisse , Haidara and Obertan out for the rest of the season essentially? We should de register them from the squad get new blood in now !!!

  • 2 firebug666 // Jan 13, 2016 at 2:49 PM

Bit of a shame really, the way we played last night would have suited Cisse’s style, and he may have taken a couple of instinctive shots in or around the area, we know he is capable of that.

Even with a fully fit Cisse we desperately need another striker, one with pace preferably. Seeings as we are deep in it again, Remy would be perfect.

I’m actually worried about losing tiote . we look more stable with him in the team. He really breaks opposition up and our defence looks calmer.

    Can saivet play like tiote?

  • 5 SPRINGY // Jan 13, 2016 at 2:56 PM

sky sports reckon the china side have now put an offer in for tiote

  • 6 JDdubai // Jan 13, 2016 at 2:57 PM

This has to be good news in the long run though – no excuse of not getting in another CF now. If Cisse had been fit next month they could have risked it..

Also good news Carroll is out, saves the next 17 days of being linked with him.

I think Shelvey and Saivet are replacements for Coldback and Anita tbh. Tiote on his day is still class but injuries have set him back big time. I think of the three Tiote is the one we need the most as Anita doesn’t work with who we currently have and I’m no fan of Coldback tbh

And of course holding onto widjnaldum in the summer is key. He’s head and shoulders above most in the team.his movements and intelligence is of very high calibre .

  • 9 mindshaft // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:02 PM

Agree on Tiote, we definitely look more solid with him in the team over Anita..
Shelvey has obviously been guaranteed a starting position although it looks like he’s been promised a forward mid spot which is where Gini has been doing so well in last couple of games – are we selling Gini?????

  • 10 ilovetoon8788 // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:03 PM

I share the same opinion as you. Anita is still a good player to have but I don’t rate colback at all . he’s a honest professional like dummett. But unless we are aiming for constant bottom half finish we need to replace them.

  • 11 mindshaft // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:03 PM

Sissoko and Gini are probably the only players on the same wavelength and are both head and shoulders above the rest of the team – we need to build a team around these two – could be quite a lot of investment though

  • 12 ilovetoon8788 // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:05 PM

We cannot keep gini for long. He will play for a top 4 side in the future .

  • 13 JackButler // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:07 PM

Coldback, for me, is a jack of all trades master of none while Dummett is woeful at left back and not good enough to play in his preferred as a centre half and while we continue to buy and carry players like these we are always going to struggle

  • 14 Our Toon // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:08 PM

Nice to see most have seen the light with Colback, as for Shelvey I’m concerned about this advanced role. Surely Gini has to be advance or are we throwing him out on the left again?

  • 15 SPRINGY // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:10 PM

the way these signings shaping up its looking like 4-2-3-1,with saivet dm, shelvey dm midfield with the freedom to involved spray the ball around and gini attacking mid to support the strike

  • 16 SPRINGY // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:11 PM

another should be under thauvin and aarons!lol

Unfortunate but good news about Cisse.

No doubt last night’s performance and three goals will no doubt have provided some relief for Charnley and a striker would’ve been put down at the bottom of his agenda.

However, we need to get a good striker in, nowt special, just someone who can net 20 over the remainder of the season. But, the thought on asking his master for more money must have him shaking in his little boots. Anyway, as he was at Pav’s memorial service he’ll have an excuse for doing nowt this afternoon – apart from hiding in a corner stuffing his face.

Yesterday’s Independent reckoned that McClaren’d get the striker he’s been asking for. No names mentioned so it may have been based on inside information – or not as is more likely.

Anyway, last night’s performance has been lauded in the press as has Dean’s questioned. He should be made to referee games in Azerbaijan or somewhere where he can’t be partial to particular clubs. Fellaini’s antics and the fact he stayed on the pitch were treated with incredulity. Thank you Mr Dean, thank you very very much for a fine impartial performance.

I think it’s a terrible suggestion to sell Tiote. Tiote holding, Shelvey with his range passing, putting a leg in, and goals, and Widj in the pocket, that’s a top central midfield three.

McC likes Colback, and I recognise he’s a busy player, like Anita, lots of give and go, but the other three can really stamp their authority on a game, in a way that Anita and Colback can’t.

Is the issue age? Because other than that, I can’t imagine the reasoning behind a sale.

  • 19 martoon // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:17 PM

I am sorry to tell you all but I reckon Tiote is on his way. There’s something on Skysports news that he may be leaving but also when he was subbed last night he gave a big wave to the crowd which also seemed to suggest it could be his last game!

  • 20 SPRINGY // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:17 PM

it says something that the day before the match we were talking about dean giving a penalty and how biased we were expecting him to be… cant be a coincidence that alot of people see him that way!!!

  • 21 NoahJ // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:23 PM

I like Tiote, but he simply hasn’t been the player he was in the Cabaye era.

I agree he’s the best out of him, anita and colback, but he’s a walking yellow card, he can’t finish 90 minutes, he’s the oldest of the three, and he has scored only 1 goal (that goal against arsenal). In other words, he’s dispensable (though, I’d rather have gotten rid of Anita).

If we get >£5m for him, I think it’s ok business

  • 22 nufc 11 // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:27 PM

Is it worth selling tiote for 8million if we get relegated unless he really wants to move problem is saivet is an unknown no pl experience we really are on the word of Carr for better or worse.

  • 23 corkypants // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:27 PM

Agree about Mike Dean SPRINGY the lad i work with is a big plastic united fan and i told him about Mike Dean and his love for ‘big clubs’ he said Mike Dean was a good ref lmao

On the Tiote situation if we can get 8mill take it anything lower and theres no point selling at the mo

Just get Austin or Lacazette and i will be happy with the window, the striker we get doesnt need to be fast or doesnt need to be strong the only thing we need is a player who can stick it in the onion sack simple!

  • 24 John Tudor // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:28 PM

Just a few words from me on being a lifelong fan of nufc and not as some odious and obnoxious posters that can only resort to that tack.
all of these are true, some can be verified others not.

the fairs cup final away leg listening to a dodgy little tranny radio outside in longbenton (as reception was shit inside)with father and his brother now sadly gone, The joy of winning it and i recall the monday morning at break time the whole school singing and chanting, the teachers having to come out to get us in,and a couple of the ring leaders called Toolie and Fletcher.

camping out for league cup tickets interviewed by ronnie gill pictures in the paper but ending up from first in the que to being halfway up Barrack rd entrance as the pubs chucked out and the swarms arrived to get in first.

bit of a rant i know but no one takes my memories away, and i have every right to express MY OPINIONS on here without being accused of being from pennywell or hendon.

    you know who you are

forgive the grammar in not au fait with new fangled tech.

  • 25 defenders needed // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:48 PM

Personally I think we should see how the new boys get on next weekend, because Gini can bang them in and with shelveys forward passes, it could be all we need and all mitro needs to start banging them in. If that’s the case would rather see us invest in our very shaky defence which struggles to keep clean sheets. What we need is a good solid tall Centre Back and I know dummit played well last night but he’s not consistent and would love to see us bring a left back in. And hey the way Southampton are not doing great this season try and bring Ryan Bertrand in another good British premier league proven player.

  • 26 Charlietoon // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:51 PM

Colback was a great deal because he was free, English and left the Mackems to join. No one ever said he was an amazing footballer but you can always guarantee he will put a shift it which makes him worth having in the squad.

  • 27 defenders needed // Jan 13, 2016 at 3:57 PM

I completely agree charlietoon you can guarantee that he does put shifts in no matter how bad his balls into boxes are

  • 28 lesh // Jan 13, 2016 at 4:42 PM

Dean’s renowned for his ‘impartality’ but he gets away with it.

Someone mentioned Howard Webb (I think) who’s comments about Fellani and his antics were astonishng – something along the lines to of refs know what to expect of him (his late tackles), it’s the way he is! So that’s alright then. I wonder if Fellani’d get away with it were he playing against ManU?
