Newcastle Still Confident Of Getting Top Striker Target Signed

5:55 pm, Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

News today that Newcastle have not given up on Graham Carr’s top transfer target this month – 24 year-old  Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette – who we have been after for over two years now.

The report is in talkSPORT.

Alexandre Lacazette 987

Alexandre Lacazette – Newcastle still confident of doing a deal?

The player went public recently and said that an offer was made by Newcastle but that he didn’t want to leave his French club and wanted to stay for the rest of this season.

Alexandre will be eyeing a place in the French squad for the Euro 2016 finals in June, which are being hosted by France, so that stance is not too surprising.

This is what Lacazette said only last Sunday about a potential Newcastle move:

“I read what you write in the media.” “Now I am at Olympique Lyonnais, I want to have a good second half of the season, so for me a departure is not valid.

“This is my agent, David Venditelli, who cares.” “He knows very well that I did not want to leave, so he declined the offer.”

The report suggests Newcastle’s pursuit of Alexandre is not over yet and that Newcastle are even confident that personal talks with the player could change his mind.

The first thing Newcastle would need to do is talk to Venditelli his agent – and persuade him it’s a (really) good deal for his client.

Money also talks in these situations as we know all too well,  with agent’s fees going through the roof.

But we would still be very surprised if we can get Lacazette in this month.

We do need a top striker brought in very soon and maybe we are still trying to persuade Loic Remy to join us on loan for the rest of the season.

Loic could get the job done for Newcastle and he would start so he would also have a chance to possibly make the French Squad for Euro 2016.

Charlie Austin could also do a job for us – but things seem to have gone quiet on Charlie – who is out injured at the moment with a hamstring problem.

Comments welcome.

He said no, his club said no, his agent said no….I can see where the confidence comes from

Anyone take a guess why we are odds on favourites to sign Berahino? Something happened to move us up the ranks?

might have got discussed earlier today but did others see the stat that says dummett is the 6th fastest player in the league @ 21.8mph

    fastest is martial @ 22mph

    WLG
I’d like to distance myself from that comment because as far as I am concerned he can keep his grubby face as far away from St James as possible

Out of curiosity does anyone know about how financial fair play would affect us? With these reported signings they could possibly add up to over £100million net spend… surely we must be very close to the limit already?

austin is the one striker we need imo not berehino or lacazette ect even if they do cost 2-3 times austins price !

and townsend ? dont get me wrong i like the lad and it would be great to see a toon player in an england shirt which with form townsend could well do but where would he fit into the team ?

as i see it we have wijnaldum / sissoko / shelvey / saivet who pretty much must play and then maccas thinking is prob colback as a must.

then we have rolando / thauvin / perez / siem / anita / tiote (but tbf tiote may be off)

not to mention the dross in fergie/ober/vukic/bigi/marv !

another of Carr’s man crush signings?

at the 20m mark, you’d think bigger clubs than us would be after him

can’t say I have seen him play but, anyone from the french league (with no prior experience) is going to be taking a chance

with our points tally, we need someone reliable probably from another english team. Some of those like austin and remy concern me with their injury record though, if we get 5+ games from them it will likely be enough

I would like berahino or remy (on loan) myself

I think you know what you are getting with any of the 3 mentioned though

Can’t believe the good news …what a relief … David’s not dead after all.

Just seen the Celebrity Big Brother clips. Black comedy gold. Shoot me for laughing.

Old Blackley had his photo taken with Mr Guest a couple of years ago when he was house hunting in Hexham. Canny little fella.

whoohoo thank god for that !

nicholas bendtner on toons radar is denied (PHEW)

  • 13 firebug666 // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:13 PM

Newcastle are not interested in signing Nicklas Bendtner this month, the Chronicle reports.

Bild reported yesterday that the Magpies are keen on the former Arsenal striker, who is currently contracted with Wolfsburg.

The Danish forward was a laughing stock during his time in the Premier League, although his record with the Gunners – 47 goals in 171 games – is certainly respectable.

Still just 27-years-old, a move back to the Premier League is not out of the question for the Danish international, but Newcastle are not one of the clubs looking to bring him back to England this month.

The Magpies are looking for a new striker, but the Chronicle report indicates that the Tyneside club have absolutely no interest in Bendtner.

We will be no where near the fair play limit the money we have made from big sales and TV rights over the last 4 years and it hasn’t been invested back in any where near to the figure that has been took out Shteve said in the summer he had 150 mil to spend over three Windows but the fat man will be panicking so will be letting him have more than 50 this window

  • 15 jimiley // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:16 PM

I think Carr must be after a team of French guys. This is getting silly. Actually it is beyond parody. Wake up old man, there is a great big world out there. Scared of planes or what??

  • 16 defenders needed // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:17 PM

Jimiley maybes he likes his men French it’s a secret fetish of his

  • 17 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:21 PM

    Guest? Gest. Holy focaccia.

  • 18 jimiley // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:21 PM

This policy of letting Carr sign French players is a total success. Especially when we sell on the few good ones he buys and keep the majority who are dross. Just look where we are in the league, and with each passing year the team gets better and better.

Makro’s raving about Dummett. I know what he means. Ando is saying he’s stood up to the task against some good, good players, doing the dirty part of the game.

I think he gets hammered on here because he’s a local, academy lad. Aaron Hughes left to play at the top level for many years. Gary Caldwell and Fraser Forster haven’t done badly.

  • 20 Ayozeserious // Jan 13, 2016 at 6:38 PM

I personally would prefer Austin to any of the names mentioned but maybe the injury he currently has is an issue however if there willing to spend 20 million it should be split between Austin.Lewis dunk and Willlems.it would represent better value and strengthen some key positions in the squad. On the tiote transfer rumours I would sell simply because apart from the last couple of games his form has dipped badly since the departure of cabaye and also he has a tendency to pick up injuries. If we can recoup 8 million and use it to strenghten the squad it would make sense to let him go.

    Beermonkey

Not sure if you watched it but last night dummet and martial had a straight sprint for the ball and dummet kept up with him. Very surprising.

    Blackley

That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on tv last night. Absolute comedy gold.
