News today that Newcastle have not given up on Graham Carr’s top transfer target this month – 24 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette – who we have been after for over two years now.
The report is in talkSPORT.
Alexandre Lacazette – Newcastle still confident of doing a deal?
The player went public recently and said that an offer was made by Newcastle but that he didn’t want to leave his French club and wanted to stay for the rest of this season.
Alexandre will be eyeing a place in the French squad for the Euro 2016 finals in June, which are being hosted by France, so that stance is not too surprising.
This is what Lacazette said only last Sunday about a potential Newcastle move:
“I read what you write in the media.” “Now I am at Olympique Lyonnais, I want to have a good second half of the season, so for me a departure is not valid.
“This is my agent, David Venditelli, who cares.” “He knows very well that I did not want to leave, so he declined the offer.”
The report suggests Newcastle’s pursuit of Alexandre is not over yet and that Newcastle are even confident that personal talks with the player could change his mind.
The first thing Newcastle would need to do is talk to Venditelli his agent – and persuade him it’s a (really) good deal for his client.
Money also talks in these situations as we know all too well, with agent’s fees going through the roof.
But we would still be very surprised if we can get Lacazette in this month.
We do need a top striker brought in very soon and maybe we are still trying to persuade Loic Remy to join us on loan for the rest of the season.
Loic could get the job done for Newcastle and he would start so he would also have a chance to possibly make the French Squad for Euro 2016.
Charlie Austin could also do a job for us – but things seem to have gone quiet on Charlie – who is out injured at the moment with a hamstring problem.
