Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet are almost certain to start for Newcastle on Saturday when we are at home against an in-form West Ham United side.
It will be interesting to see what the team is with these two new signings in the line-up.
New signings Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey
Both have been told they will play in central midfield so in that case this is on like line-up with the new signings starting.
Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Coloccini (c) Colback
Sissoko Saivet Shelvey Perez
Wijnaldum
Mitrovic
We are assuming that McClaren will use the experience of Jack Colback at left back – and that would mean Paul Dummett would drop to the bench.
That would be unfortunate for Paul given he experienced probably his best moment in his career when he brilliantly hammered home the equalizer last night against Manchester United in the 90th minute.
If Saivet is used on the wing then maybe this is a possible starting eleven with Tiote back in central midfield and Saivet replacing young Ayoze Perez on the wing.
Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Coloccini (c) Colback
Sissoko Tiote Shelvey Saivet
Wijnaldum
Mitrovic
We’ll have to see what the starting side is against West Ham – but with Newcastle having just gained a measly 2 points in our last five league games we must start putting some wins on the board very soon.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Why on earth would Makro drop Dummett, Ed? And for Colback at left back. Holy focaccia!

Comment #3Please no, Dummett may be numb but I’ve been looking forward to colback carrying the water bottles for ages. We’re almost there!

Comment #7I agree with p, Shelvey knows the ropes and Saivet will get a taste if things are going OK.

Comment #8I don’t think Dummett will be dropped. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tiote was sold by then and Colback replaced him with Dummett coming in at LB. However, I’d rather see:
Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Colo Dummett
Saivet Shelvey
Sissoko De Jong Wijnaldum
Mitrovic
Give Perez a break from the wing and pull De Jong back into the squad as I think his linkup play will be improved with Saivet/Shelvey providing better balls on the ground forward rather than long ones over the top that Tiote/Colo like to go for which won’t ever be SDJ’s strong suit.
Anyway, looking forward to it whatever team gets a run out.

Comment #9Yeah, might not be worth changing things up too much with players who have never played together. Will certainly depend on how well things go in training over the next couple of days. It would also be harsh on whoever they end up replacing considering the performance yesterday.

Elliot
Janmaat Mbemba Colo Dummett
Saivet
Sissoko shelvey Wijnaldum perez
Mitrovic
Or he will stick with colback instead of saivet at first.

Comment #12The proven man is Remy. Magpies are half way to relegation, and to turn that flightpath, NUFC needs someone that knows how to get it done, not someone on a learning curve.

Comment #14i doubt he will throw saivet straight in and colback at lb is an awful shout. De Jong needs to be given another chance (7 points from his 3 starts, 1 point from 4 games since) and perez looks like he needs a rest.
i’d go for:
elliot
janmaat mbemba collo dummet
shelvey tiote
socks sdj gini
mitro

Comment #16I don’t think he will play both new players. Dummett will start as left back and Shelvey will replace one of the holding midfielders. This will give us licence to take the game to the opposition instead of using 2 holding midfielders which invites the opposition to attack us and boss the midfield

Comment #18My line up would be
Elliott
Janmaat Colo mbemba dummett
Sissoko shelvey saivet coldback
Wijnaldum
Mitrovic
Coldback on the left to cover dummett and he can move more central if needs be. West ham will be very dangerous now that payet is back from injury.

Comment #21One slight problem, apart from the fact that Dummet will start at LB who in their right mind would start two new players and drop our holding midfielders who break up play and protect the back four?
Tiote is on his way out and Colback despite his knockers like Carrick at Utd quietly just gets on with the job and those who think he doesn’t make a difference need to look at results when he’s out of the team.
Anita and Colback are forming a good relationship, Shelvey gives options but he’s not a holding midfielder. MaClaren needs balance and he needs results, play has been improving steadily and it just needs a little refinement.
Shelvey may start but for me the team should be unchanged with possibly the exception of Tiote who may be on his way out. Perez needs to be played off Mitro either in a 4,3,3 with Wijnaldum or with Sisoko, Wijnaldum, Colback and Shelvey in midfield.
I’m still not convinced that Shelvey will not turn out to be another Barton, a good player but more hassle than what he is worth. the last thing we need is more disruption in the dressing room. I’d have rather paid £12m for Sigurdsson

Yeah I like Dummett as a defender he reads the game well , gets stuck in and puts his body on the line just wish we had a left winger with serious pace so he could just win the ball and give it to the winger
Its weird but whenever Sammy and Dummett played together on the left hand side the two of them worked well together he was inconsistent but Sammy could whip a cross in !! Had about 6 assists last season which is decent considering how little game time he got

Comment #24Hope the tales of Townsend are not true -even on loan we surely could do better than him.
If true my assessment of Wally Brolly will diminish even further – if he has been a party to wanting yet another second rater at the club.

Comment #25Townsend is not completely useless as some are making out on here when he plays on the right wing he cuts inside and shoots all the time but for us he will be playing on the left which he could be decent
Good parts he offers :
Rapid Pace , Work rate , Tracking back, Skill to beat 3 or 4 players , Attacking intent , Good passing and Crossing from the left , English
Bad parts :
Injury prone , Moody , Greedy when on the right wing, High transfer fee and wages and also fell out with Pochettino !!
If we have him and Sissoko on the wings we can pin teams back either side and use Shelvey to make quick passes to either wing that has space means also means we will be rapid on the counter attack either side

Comment #27I agree that Perez looks out of sorts, and I think maybe he needs a break. I would like to see De Jong get another run and move Gini out wide. Imo De Jong is a smart footballer and brings something different to the team. I also wouldn’t play 2 new players so soon after they have arrived – particularly after we played so well last night. Properly excited for Saturday!

We should’ve got rid of Colback and Tiote and kept Abeid. I hope Mclaren gets sacked and we resign him.

Comment #31Spurs blogs are full of fans stating the Townsend is a bighead – and the major gripe repeatedly is that there is no end product.
He had no first team starts for this season and then has a bust up in public with one of the coaches.
The manager must not have given him starts for a reason (prior to bust up).
Spurs valuation is ridiculous – but I wouldn’t put it past Pefold to get him on loan – what a waste of time.
