Get These Three Players In And Complete A Great Transfer Window

Newcastle have so far brought in Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea and Henri Saivet from Bordeaux and they look like two good signings for us.

But we still need more players brought in and a winger, striker and left back could make this transfer window a great one for the club.

Raphael Guerreiro

Raphael Guerreiro – Lorient left-back

Newcastle´s defense has been a weakness for a long time and especially in central defense but with Colo and Mbemba starting to strike up a decent partnership it could be that Newcastle wait until the summer to sign a top center-back.

But we could do with bringing in a new left back this month and we have been linked for some time with 22 year-old Portuguese left back Raphael Guerreiro who plays for Lorient and has 3 full caps for Portugal.

He signed for Lorient back in 2013 from Caen and made his Ligue 1 debut in August of that year in the 1-0 away loss at Lille.

Since that time he has played 85 times for Lorient with 8 goals and is now an accomplished left back who could do well in England – and could be bought for around £8M.

Newcastle are said to be in communication with Spurs and Andros Townsend about a possible move this month.

If reports are to be believed Steve McClaren is keen to get the England intentional on Tyneside either permanently or on loan for the rest of the season.

Andros would be a  good signing for us because once he´s fully fit – he hasn´t played for the Spurs first team since October – he can start producing for Newcastle on one of the wings.

Townsend can both score goals and make goals so he would be a good signing for Newcastle

We would love to see Newcastle get Loic Remy in on loan through the end of the season even if he wont sign for us full time.

Loic would be able to produce for Newcastle almost immediately, but it may be difficult for Newcastle to persuade the French striker to come to the north-east again.

If the London press are to be believed he would prefer to remain in London, with Tottenham and Crystal Palace both reported interested in taking the player from Chelsea this month.

Loic would be a terrific second half of the season signing for Newcastle.

So those are three players – Raphael Guerreiro, Andros Townsend and Loic Remy – who could do very well for Newcastle if brought in this month.

Two other things – Charlie Austin would be a great buy right now but he does have a hamstring injury which may complicate things this month.

So maybe we wait bit get him to sign a pre-contract agreement now – and then make the deal final when he is a free agent in the summer.

And if Newcastle are going to negotiate with Lorient for Guerreiro, why not try to get Lamine Kone, who is the impressive center-back who Sunderland failed to sign recently.

He´s available for just £5M and the Ivory Coast Intentional would be a great buy for us either now or in the summer.

That´s it.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Please give it up over Townsend. The other 2 yes would gladly take and a footballing monster CB, then we’re set, albeit with a mediocre manager still.

It worries me that for about three years now we’ve been screaming about getting in a new centre back. And yet here we sit saying “Colo and Mbemba are beginning to gel…. WHAT IF ONE OF THEM GETS INJURED?!!! Bring in a new CB, a goal scoring striker and we’re good. We DON’T NEED ANYMORE Midfielders.

Townsend will not produce goals or assists, look at his stats. Why do you thnk spurs are so desperate to get rid. You’d be wanting Obertan back.

would rather play Aarons or show a bit of faith in Thauvin. Knew we couldn’t go one thread without mention of a guy (Austin) who wants to stay in London and has injury issues.

    Rotonda,
Is Guerreiro that good? Not really seen him to be honest, but I would much prefer Andrew Robertson from Hull, or Ben Davies from Spuds if we were to spend big on a full back.

As for Townsend, I’m pleased Levy doesn’t want to let him leave on loan and he wants a fortune for him. That should hopefully mean he doesn’t arrive at SJP.

supershearer, totally agree on the CB situation. I would love to get Kone if only because the mackems turned him down, and it would be great if he turned out well, bolstering our defence and helpfing to keep us up.

Ed you say Townsend can score and make goals – this is not true – must be a figment of your imagination as stats for the last couple of years would suggest the opposite is true.
You should not let your obvious admiration of this lad blind you from reality.
    Put it another way he’s a dud/knacker.

Do we really need another winger especially if Townsend is the best they can come up with, we have got Arrons, thauvin and marveaux is still here, might as well give him another chance anyway.

Guerreiro is far more polished than for example Haidara or Dummet. A more intelligent cultured player with a football brain if you like, with good pace, good going forward but equally reliable defensively.

After watching Winjanum cooly put away his goal on Tuesday – would anyone play him further upfield.
ie. in the Perez position and put Shelvey in central midfield in Wiljanum position.
Wiljanum reminds me of Peter Beardsley on how he can read situations/anticipation to be in the right place at the right time

SM has insisted on all signings in this window being folically challenged – so watch for a bald striker and CH.

On that folically challenged theme there was a guy on here , sadly can’t remember who it was, who did a hilarious send up of SM’s hair style describing it in football terms, like ”we could sweep it to the right ” etc, etc. Guess you had to be there but it made me laugh.

I think SMC will go for Berahino now, as soccer sauce predicted, and maybee Townsend…and I think that is end of our january transfer window with these two…if we stay up then in the summer they will try new lb Willems/Guerreiro and cb Koulibaly…..that would be very good team if that happens
    GK:Krul,Elliot,Darlow
    LB:Willems(Guerreiro),Haidara
    RB:Janmaat,Mbabu
    CB:Koulibaly,Mbemba,Dummett,Lascelles,Colo,S.Taylor
    CM:Shelvey,Saivet,Colback,Anita
    RM:Sissoko,Townsend
    LM:Thauvin,Aarons
    AM:Wijnaldum,De Jong
    FW:Mitrovic,Berahino,Perez,Riviere,Armstrong
HG:Krul,Elliot,Darlow,Dummett,Lascelles,Taylor,Shelvey,Colback,Aarons,Berahino,Armstrong…11 which would be very good number…
sell…Gouffran,Good,Willo,Marveaux,Cisse,Tiote……Tiote and Cisse only in the summer window

I feel a striker is the main priority left for the window with Cisse out for a while. Perhaps a loan striker till the end of the season that needs games for the Euros (Remy if they let him go), it’d be some motivation for helping out in a relegation battle at least. Whats Welbecks situation at Arsenal? Coming back from an injury he might struggle for game time ahead of the Euros and offers something different to Mitro.

Another CB would be a good shout as well though only if we allow Willo to leave. Someone tall and dominant would be nice,

For LB I think we can wait till the summer window. We have Dummet, Mbabu and Haidara that can all play there which should be adequate cover for now. We should be looking at Willems/Robertson to reinforce next season.

I think Townsend is a better player than many are making out. He might not be top class, and has obviously stalled at Spurs, but he was outstanding on loan at QPR three years ago, and then of course for England in the World Cup qualifiers. I might be wrong, but I thought he played more centrally with QPR, either as a no.10 or attacking midfield, so it may be that McClaren sees him in similar role. Wonderful ball carrier, with genuine pace and skill. I could imagine him having a similar impact to Ben Arfa, and probably dividing opinion in the same way; plenty of frustration, but with flashes of brilliance. £14m is too much, but he’d surely give us something we lack. A loan with an option to buy at around £10m would make sense.

Thauvin has been short-changed by McClaren. He’s barely been given game-time, when he’s come off the bench he’s actually looked a bit of a live-wire. We don’t give players enough time to adapt to the league. I know that’s harder when you’re in a scrap but to send him out on loan! That seems counter intuitive to me, especially back to France.

mentioning townsend in the same sentence as Ben Arfa is almost sacrilege. On his day and under a manager who plays to his strengths B.A is a magician. Townsend isn’t or even close.

I see a few believe Mitrovic did not get the assist for wijnaldum’s goal, which I can see why given the angle of some of the replays.

I was watching the game on a U.S. station which showed a clearer view and it was certainly a Mitrovic assist. Sky sports and BBC are crediting the assist to Mitrovic too.

Rotunda and Charlie, completely agree with your comments re Wini. Lovely player, but our pedestrian midfield takes too much out of the ball. Shelvey looks a little overweight, so hope he doesnt get injured. I have said from the very start that Thauvin doesnt look like a good signing . He seems to lack straight line pace , tackling ability and strength. He does cross well , if given time, but no, I dont rate the guy. I dont rate SMC all that much either, but with the deficiencies in the team based on Ashley and Carrs approach, I may be harsh on him.

He’s out of contact next summer. If they don’t get him out in January his value will only dwindle further, especially as he’d be almost certain to miss out on the Euros. Of course, someone might be desperate enough to pay the asking price, but I think the opportunity will be there to drive a hard bargain late in the window.
