Newcastle United new signing Henri Saivet says he is ready to start for Newcastle in defensive midfield on Saturday and he did well in the 35 minutes or so he got against West Ham, in his first ever taste of Premier League football.
Henri played alongside Jonjo Shelvey in what is Newcastle´s new look central midfield, with both players coming into the club early last week.
Henri Saivet congratulated by Steve McClaren after debut
Saivet was signed from Bordeaux for around £4.5M last week and he could become a very important player for us, because it looks like the experienced Cheick Tiote will be allowed to leave Newcastle to join Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua this week.
We hope we have enough central midfielders in case we get another batch of injuries like we did in the second half of last season.
Saivet is a confident lad and he had this to say when asked if he thought he would start at Vicarage Road:
“That’s the head coach’s call, he will have to tell you more about that.” “The most important thing is I am ready and ready to play.”
“If I am called upon I will be out there and try to do my best.” “What matters more than anything at the moment is the club, there’s no player bigger than the club.”
“That’s all that is important but I am ready when called upon and I will make sure I give my best.”
“The image people have in France of Newcastle is that it is massive club, it is just struggling to get on track.”
“Everything we like about Newcastle, it is a good traditional English club.” “It is a little bit of a shame that they are not at the top of the Premier League where they deserve to be.”
“The aim for me is to play in front of the defense, to shore up the defense.” “But I am a ball player as well as a ball winner, so hopefully I can help the team to attack.”
The new central midfield duo of Shelvey and Saivet will decide to a large extent whether we can survive this season in the Premier League, after a calamitous season so far with only five wins in 22 games.
And with Swansea winning tonight 1-0 at home to Watford we are back in 3rd bottom place.
Every one of our 16 league games is now massive for the club, including the next one at Watford on Saturday.
We expect Saivet to start and hopefully he can have another solid game for us and we can get a second successive win.
We need it.
