Newcastle Midfielder – I Can Be More Important For The Team

4:53 pm, Monday, January 18th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 63 Comments

Ever since Steve McClaren finally moved Gini Wijnaldum into his favorite position – the number 10 role where he plays in the center just behind the main striker – he has looked a different player – a much better player than when the Dutch international was wide on the left.

Gini is hitting the goals this season for the Magpies and has scored in each of his last two games, and now the 25 year-old has 9 goals and is top scorer for the club, followed by Ayoze Perez with five and Alexander Mitrovic with four.

Georginio Wijnaldum after scoring 9th goal of the season on Saturday

Gini was asked if he thought he was playing better now that he has the position he likes playing in:

“Yes much better because that is my better position. I can be more important for the team.” “I can make better runs with my technique and my goals.”

“I enjoy every goal I make and I hope I score more to enjoy with the team and supporters.” “If you score everyone can enjoy it, especially the supporters.”

“Every point that we get is important. We have to stay out of the relegation zone,” “In the middle of the table sometimes you don’t get the points you think you should.”

“Sitting in the relegation zone you need every point you can get.” “Every point is important. I have the confidence we won’t get back in the bottom three.”

“We have to show it on the field though.” “We have climbed out of the relegation zone a few times but we still dropped back so we must stay out of it and win games in a row.”

“That is the only way to keep out of it.”

Swansea City play Watford at home tonight at the Liberty Stadium and a home win will take them one point above Newcastle and put us back in 3rd bottom place.

But we cannot rely on teams around us losing games – it’s up to us to save ourselves – and the best way to do that is to put some wins up on the board.

And next up is Watford on Saturday at Vicarage Road and we must go all out for all 3 points – once again.

Comments welcome.

So would Berahino play wide left if he comes?

Cant see us playing 2 up top with Wini playing so well as a 10.

Berahino wide left cutting in needs a LB who can attack and overlap Janmaat-style. Lets convert Aarons to an attacking LB, sure he played there once or twice. Just teach him to defend and we could have a worldy there.

  • 16 geordie157 // Jan 18, 2016 at 5:01 PM

Townsend and Berahino would do nicely, adds a lot of pace to the side.

Don’t think a defender is coming though. Willems and Matip in the summer then.

    JDubai

Not a bad shout actually converting Aarons to a wing back…

Played there in pre season, worked hard managed to get up and down the pitch.

But that would mean having to buy another winger

    Sissoko/Townsend-Wijnaldum-Perez
    Berahino/Mitro

  • 55 JamesToon // Jan 18, 2016 at 5:16 PM

Or would it be better to just use him as a winger however he’d get less game time with the arrival of Townsend.

Watford potentially having a debutant against us with Amrabat just signing for them for £6mil

i was absolutley buzzing to be linked with wissam ben yedder ahen he started following a few of our players on twitter and have been keep typing his name in google to see if any more has came of it,, quite gutted to see spurs are bidding for him,, between 6 and 8 million which i think is a steal for him..

The only pleasing thing if spurs do get him is that there endless pursuit of ayoze should come to an end..

Seriously though on ben yedder,, quick,, gd finisher,, instinctive ,, skillfull for me personally the list goes on.. first came across him 3 or 4 yr ago watching a random game n he was qaulity throughout and was brought more to tha attention of him with us having ben arfa n after tht always looked out for him when toulouse were playing or on football manger etc n would quite reguraly google him for any links with our scouting of france and toulouse imparticular with sissoko,, jus this week they were on bt he had another gd game and bagged himself a goal,, i think he would be tha perfect foil for mitro,,anyone else seen him have an opinion????
