Tomorrow Predicted To Be A Huge Day For Newcastle

8:35 pm, Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 125 Comments

Soccer Sauce is usually (very) accurate with their predictions in the transfer market and they are forecasting that tomorrow  could be a huge day for Newcastle United.

They report we are in discussions for both Andros Townsend and Saido Berahino and point out that it just so happens that Saido is not in the squad for the FA Cup replay at Bristol City tonight.

Saido Berahino – Newcastle striker target

Here are the tweets they have sent out suggesting tomorrow could be a huge day in the transfer market for Newcastle United.

Hope so.

    He’s ill

  • 2 G // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:37 PM

Oh well, look forward to tomorrows headlines then.

  • 3 G // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:39 PM

OT, hypotheticaly speaking, how long do you reckon it would take to turn Andros into a footballer, then get fatty fit? Assuming they both sign for us.

  • 4 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:41 PM

I think we would be looking at early March before both would be realistically match fit and thats providing they dont pick up any niggles in training !!

Saido looked about 3 stone overweight when West Brom played us last month

  • 5 toonicle // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:42 PM

Heard he was in London for a medical?

  • 6 2 goals 1 cup // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:45 PM

if were going to pay that much for a forward at least get somebody better than we have already got would you really put this guy ahead of perez and mitrovic .hes massively overrated because hes English and got pace would rather we got pato hes got the experince and ten times more qwality

  • 7 Belfast // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:50 PM

Haha classic! still going strong then.

Will we get another update when they finish school tomorrow? oh sorry I mean when they check with their sources.

  • 8 Mag52 // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:50 PM

Looks like MA is getting a bit of his own medicine with the price WBA are asking for Berehino. It’s called karma Mike.

  • 9 Fostino // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:50 PM

All speculation but if true…il be a happy boy.

All we need is another lb then

  • 10 JP...from The Rock // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:51 PM

I would love either Chicharito or Berahino to come and play fpr us ASAP. Both a very quick and very deadly infront of goal. I would welcome the move surely. Can understand why some complain about Berahino being overweight but if we survive he is ours and in the meantime I am sure he will score goals for us and help us achieve just that, survival. The lad has bucket loads of potential and strikes the ball better than anyone we have at the club. Real venom in his shots. I hope we get this deal sorted tomorrow.

  • 11 Toonfan8 // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:51 PM

Berahino would fit perfectly to our squad, hope it’s true. Schoenmaker or what is his name, will get him up to speed quickly. Townsend too. They are must in this window.

  • 12 Jib // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:53 PM

  • 13 defenders needed // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:55 PM

    Speculation that’s all it’ll be

  • 14 G // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:56 PM

Jib, he’s looking slimmer than the last time I saw him

  • 15 FollowFollow // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:59 PM

I don’t understand the attraction of Berahino. He’s done nothing on the pitch. Only displayed a bad attitude.

  • 16 NoahJ // Jan 19, 2016 at 8:59 PM

    the berahino deal is interesting:

    If we get him, great

If Chelsea get him, then Remy will likely be available, great

  • 17 defenders needed // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:01 PM

This will be another Charlie Austin fable ed will post rumour after rumour from different sauces about berahino and it will never happen like I said the other day if he comes either mitro will be getting shifted to become a bench warmer, and I can’t see the fat man having that. Over 25 mil sat on the bench just on two players. Or completely change his system to 4 3 3 having two front strikers with Gini playing just behind them both in the middle then dropping saviet to have just 3 in midfield again more money wasted.

  • 18 NoahJ // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:01 PM

    the attraction is threefold:

    1. he’s young
    2. he’s english
    3. he’s a goalscorer (albeit for one out of two seasons)

I know what you mean, though. I’d prefer a player with better attitude, etc. but I think Ashley sees this as a short-term gain and long-term investment. I think he’s good enough to keep us up this year, and will be easily re-sellable in a few years

  • 19 Toonfan8 // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:01 PM

Chelsea are getting Pato, you will see it.

  • 20 defenders needed // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:02 PM

    Sources pardon my grammer

  • 21 the broons // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:02 PM

Even though I dpn’t think theres a chance of it happening, I would be delighted if Behranio joined.

    1. We need a striker desperately
    2. He has shown he can score goals at this level and in what I believe is a really poor West Brom team.
    3. He has that bit of extra pace we lack up top, Can’t help but imagine the Andy Cole days. Both are similar.

  • 22 Our Toon // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:03 PM

By the time they get fit and into shape we could be relegated. How long before Berahino has a strop here and decides he doesn’t want to play?

  • 23 croftus5678 // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:04 PM

i’m getting very confused at to what our formation is going to be now !

as i see it mitrovic/wijnaldum/sissoko/shelvey/colo/mbemba/janmaat are all pretty much undropable.

some could argue colback is also under maccas charge and then you add saivet into the mix !!!

then any other signings ???? i mean wtf ?

  • 24 G // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:10 PM

Joking asside, I would suggest Beradinho is a good few weeks away from match fitness.

  • 25 Our Toon // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:11 PM

With Berahino and Townsend apparently joining it can only mean sissoko is off….unless we drop mitro

  • 26 defenders needed // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:11 PM

Croftus they would have to play in this formation, dropping saviet.

But that would mean saviet on the bench doesn’t make sense I can’t see mitro been dropped.

  • 27 MassiveG // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Pato wouldn’t cut it. Rolls Royce player in a team than badly needs a Ford Mondeo up front (see Austin).

Maybe 4-4-2 would be conceivable as a tactic but that makes Wijanldum/Jonjo role difficult (for saivet)
    Berahino Mitro
    Townsend Jonjo Wijno Sissoko

    Townsend Wijno Sissoko
    Shelvey saivet

  • 28 toonicle // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:13 PM

I just don’t understand where he would fit. If he chooses to come here it would be with the promise of a starting position and we aren’t suddenly going to start playing 2 up top. He doesn’t like playing out wide. Not to mention he’s not played much at all so would take at least a month to get up to speed I’d think?

  • 29 lesh // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:16 PM

I’ve got mate who’s told me that when he was at the Hopping last year, Gipsy Rose Lee told him that Wednesday 20 January 2016 was to be a big day for Newcastle United.

Now if anyone else can look into their balls ……

  • 30 croftus5678 // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:16 PM

    i’d go with

colback/dummett/perez become squad players who can do a job in many positions but i can not see why we are after wingers unless they can play as wing backs and tbh i can not see rolando/thauvin/obertan or townsend doing defensive work.

  • 31 Our Toon // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:16 PM

Those team selections make no sense at all, Shelvey now going to be a ball winner is he or a defensive midfielder because that he is not.

Sissoko will be sold if these 2 come in, Gini will get pushed out to the left, Townsend to the right and Berahino behind mitro.

Berahino won’t come here to sit on the bench

  • 32 Shot Bru // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Irrespective of who we sign it’s good to see there might eventually be competition for places in the squad.

And we might have a plan B in terms of tweaking formations with the different types of players we have.

It’s good to see tight arse Ashley having to spend some coin on the club

  • 33 defenders needed // Jan 19, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Our toon but jonjo is more of a playmaker playing from the back with his long range pin point passes, so can’t really go further forward, can he? Croatia could you imagine the shtick Shteve would get though if he pushed Gini back out wide with the form he is playing down the middle.

It must surely occur to the powers that be that when there’s an abundance of quality in the squad, then players are selected to play in whatever system is to be employed against whichever opposition’s to be faced.

Ah, but there lies a problem – do we have the wit to analyse the opposition and devise game plans to suit the occasion?

  • 76 Our Toon // Jan 19, 2016 at 10:44 PM

    Defenders needed

Shelvey may well be a deep lying playmaker but you can’t set up a team without a ball winner, firstly the defence needs protection no matter who you are, our defence is arguably one of the worst if not the worst so again Jonjo playing as deep playmaker isn’t going to prevent goals. Secondly you need to win the ball back so the importance of having a tough tackler is key to winning games.

Rotonda – 5m is the fee for Tiote mate, 8m would have been nice but maybe he feels to make such a step down it’ll take more than 60k a week tax free…..he could get more in the middle east after all. I still think he has some role here this season so not fussed if ye doesn’t go.

  • 77 Our Toon // Jan 19, 2016 at 10:48 PM

Shelvey had a good debut but I was a little disappointed in his constant 30 yard shots. The most important thing on Saturday was a win for us so keeping possession toward the end was key, not Shelvey attempting to score on debut. This is a dogfight so team needs to come first not personal glory. I hope that sinks in whilst he’s here

  • 78 Tsunki // Jan 19, 2016 at 10:50 PM

  • 84 p // Jan 19, 2016 at 11:12 PM

Well there is going to be a series of signings over the next few days probably. They are likely interlinked.

Who knows who will end up where though.

I suspect we will end up with Townsend, Spurs will get Berahino and then we will have to go elsewhere, perhaps Lacazette. Thauvin will be gone if a winger turns up though.

Clearly Mikey is caking himself about relegation and so he should. Apart from Villa, I reckon 2 spots are up for grabs.

Bet against Allardyce and the jammy mackems at ones peril whilst hoping for a Norwich or Bournemouth implosion is rather risky with a pair of decent’ish managers and fighting spirit.

NUFC will have to start turning performances into 3 points and a fair amount of time.

I would not bet against signings but who is anyone’s guess.

  • 89 ramajama // Jan 20, 2016 at 12:46 AM

It’s amazing how negative people can be on here..Berahino and Townsend being proven Premier League players and if it all happens to be true means Mike Ashley would have splashed some good cash.
Yea both Berahino and Townsend aren’t fit but can you remember the transfer windows where we signed nobody…I’d much rather this and will be well happy

  • 90 jimmysmith // Jan 20, 2016 at 1:02 AM

Yeah, Townsend and Berahino are of the right quality, and we simply just haven’t had enough of them to punch our weight for so long now.

Ok, he’s sorted us out financially apparently, now he appears to be looking to give us the team a club our size should have, but that’s the least he can do if he’s going to continue to take his advertising for free, and if it is happening, it’s been a long time coming, but even so, kudos to the man if he delivers, that’s what it’s all about.

But changing the ground name, bloody ‘ell, come on. No matter what he might achieve here on in, that was barking mad.

  • 91 lesh // Jan 20, 2016 at 1:11 AM

    Now then young Chancel.

Don’t read to much into Spurs blocking the Townsend move. It’s Levy playing games to screw as much as he can – £14m would come in handy to bid for Beharino or whatever his name is.

  • 92 Take a Chancel on me // Jan 20, 2016 at 1:15 AM

  • 94 Sav // Jan 20, 2016 at 1:49 AM

Look at Berahino’s stats. 1 goal in 4. I don’t think he offers enough. As for Townsend, he may as well change his name to Obertan.

  • 95 Mister Tuff // Jan 20, 2016 at 3:05 AM

Jib Jibberish – the blog pest – what is the inside information from the club via your man on the inside – you know the peanut man – your Uncle Peanut.

As for you knowing much about football never mind NUFC ———– F***ing Brazil United.

How anyone can think there is a club team of this name is beyond me.

  • 96 jimmysmith // Jan 20, 2016 at 3:55 AM

I don’t think of Berahino and Townsend as upgrades on our best 11, on Sissoko or Perez, for example, but as providing the sort of depth and competition for places that has restricted us so much in the past. Townsend is certainly better than Obertan, and if Pochetino rates Berahino, and wants him at Spurs, I’d be amazed if he then wouldn’t be a valuable addition for us.

My suspicion though is Levy wants us to buy Townsend, to in part fund their bid for Berahino. I’d be very surprised if we got them both, and of course not surprised if we got neither. But delighted if we did.

  • 97 brklyngeordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 4:11 AM

So was watching the PSG vs Toulouse game today and there was a player that caught the eye actually 2 but will focus on 1 and that was Brathwaite for Toulouse seemed a very fast player like made DiMaria look slow kind of fast think we need to take a look at him as i think would be a cheaper alternative to Townsend or Phillips if anyone else is familiar opinions please

  • 98 brklyngeordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 4:16 AM

by the way while watching that PSG Toulouse game saw same problems that there are in Prem which is ref never seemed to see the fouls on PSG one that should have led to a PK early in 2nd half which could possibly put them 2-0 but late in game saw the a foul that was possibly a flop that led to a 89min pk for PSG which got them the 2-1 win how convenient

Refereeing really can ruin my passion for the game sometime as it is so obvious some teams benefit and others suffer due to clear bias

  • 99 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:23 AM

West Brom are also interested in Townsend, could it be Levy stalling as if West Brom get the Berahino money they would then cough up the £14 for Townsend? Lots of potential links between a few transfers at the moment, nowt to do but see how it all shakes out really.

If Chelsea do go for Berahino then a move for Remy is more likely, but there is Russian interest apparently, so he could well hold out for the roubles.

I wonder how Tiote’s move falling through will impact upon our business as well. We need to free up squad space, unless we are going to have players on the books who can’t play as they aren’t in the squad. That would certainly demonstrate a change in stance from Ashley and the board.

  • 101 Ron Knee // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:29 AM

I suppose the moral of the story is that we should have done a thorough job in the last transfer window, instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel in this one!

  • 102 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:33 AM

    Ron Knee,
I think quite a few on here tried to point that out at the time.

  • 103 expatmag // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:38 AM

    Ron knee

Exactly the point I have been making for so long now.

As a business, this club is reactionary. It was clearly evident in the summer more senior players of greater quality were required.

All this guff of 50 million quid to be spent in each of the transfer windows is nothing more than calculated risks by a seasoned gambler.

Secondly, thus Tiote situation is very odd indeed. Lets be honest here. Why would he fly all the way to China without either party not knowing the salary offer or agreement.

I think he has failed the medical.

  • 104 Ron Knee // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:39 AM

At least our dire situation has forced a change in the transfer policy – but at what price!

  • 105 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:42 AM

Has the dire situation forced a change in policy? This window or next was always going to see a greater number of British or homegrown players coming in just to fill the Premier league quota. I doubt that either Berahino or Townsend would be being looked at if it weren’t for the quota. Debateable that Shelvey would have been.

  • 106 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:47 AM

The Shields Gazzette is reporting terms are now agree and he is to have a medical later this week. Who knows what is really going on…

  • 107 Ron Knee // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:49 AM

So you don’t think McClaren has had some say in transfers?

  • 108 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:51 AM

Going back to the Phillips/Townsend debate, did anyone see this article last night on HITC? Phillips got the 7th most Premier league assists in the 2015 calendar year, despite playing just 15 games in a team that was relegated. 1 less than Vardy who played 37, 3 less than Cazorla who played 33.

  • 109 sparky55 // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:57 AM

Nobody would have been looked at if we were 13th or 14th because in fat man’s eyes we would have been doing better than expected (ie anything better than 17th will do).

The only reason he’s spending the money is to ensure premiership safety and to get his hands on the share of the 5 billion sky pot.

Lets not carried away that he’s a changed man or anything daft like that…it always has been and always will be about the money…and that’s why sissoko will be on his way anytime soon as well…he’s the only player we have of any value left.

  • 110 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 6:58 AM

I don’t think he is getting much more than Pardew had particularly. We were linked with Townsend last January window as well, Berahino was linked before Macca arrived in the summer. Shelvey was also linked with a move here before last January window.

The club know they need to bring in more homegrown with players leaving, so I’m not sure it is a shift in policy more a requirement.

  • 111 cyprus // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:11 AM

This Berahino guy reminds me a bit of that Hoilett. He feels he should be playing for ManU. He doesn’t perform for ‘lesser’ teams than his status. He’s been woeful this year and sluggish. Can a relegation threatened team inspire him?

I’d prefer P(l)ato. But, would he be inspired? From Brazil and Italy to NUFC? Not so sure.

    Keep searching Carr.

  • 112 cyprus // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:13 AM

All that is your speculation dude. You may be right, of course, as is the case with speculation. I think you are wrong. I may be wrong.

  • 113 LGFUAD21 // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:19 AM

I get the feelings that Mcclaren gets a bit more trust than Pardew.

Pure hunch but it wouldn’t surprise me if Pardew did nothing but moan about wanting new playrs rather than offering up any of his own solutions.

Mcclaren comes across as far more articulate about football and specific in his needs so it wouldn’t surprise me if that conveyed more trust in these investments. You rather back someone who knows what he’s doing than someone who doesn’t (even if that’s just the impression they give you)

As for Phillips i wanted us to sign his last summer. Always thought he’d be a solid, affordable addition. I prefer h to Townsend to be honest but I think either could do a job here.

On squad allocation and the issue with tiote not leaving. I think we’d unregistered Gouffran if push came to shove and we couldn’t move him on. Same goes for willo.

I do think for all the mistake he has and continues to make, that people need to be a bit less cynical though. I’m Don’t believe ashley has taken a penny a t of this club. He just hasn’t reinvested when needs be. That’s why we now have money to spend. If this windows keeps up then we’ll be one of the biggest spenders in the league. Not too far off teams with far greater revenues at the top.

People can talk about the free advertising all they want but I have argued before. He also gave us an interest free loan. He’s probably not too wrong to want a little something back. And the loan still far exceeds any revenue we’d have gained from a paying sponsor. We also have a sponsorship deal (granted with an evil company) that is well above a team of our level should command. End of the day ashley ain’t a charity as some on here seem to expect an owner to be. No owners other than Chelski are pouring their own cash into clubs these days. Even qpr and Cardiff have learnt the hard way.

Do I think he’s a good owner? Certainly not. Do I think he’s a conduit of Satan and the torys (who are one in the same themselves to me) to destroy the heart of the geordie nation as some on here make out. Certainly not either.

complacency is the biggest problem here. But I don’t think the policy was necessarily way off. It just couldn’t done with some refinements. I don’t think people realise how much of a war chest we now have built up by being frugal. The way most of it has been spent could catapult us in the long run with the potential value of players. Which is important because if you’re not in the champions league, how else are you going to build the finances to compete. In short you need to buy a player for £15m sell them for £30m and turn it into two £15m players balancing your squad.

  • 114 Reyantoon // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:31 AM

Realistically speaking, signing Townsend for 12m upfront is a risk.Because he hasn’t played many games for a while. He already turned down a move to Westbrom tho.His heart is in the NE.I think he already discussed with Mclaren too.If he had been interested, he’d have joined wba by now.But as Daniel
Levy is greedy and stubborn man,he may force him to move to wba.Or he may use him as bait in order to get Berahino. The man may have an ambition to succeed but he is an awful dealer and tough negotiator.I’ll be extremely surprised if he allow him to move to nufc on loan, with an option to sell him for permanent!!

  • 115 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:33 AM

I always liked the idea of the ‘Ashley blueprint’, but to do that you have to have the correct people in position to implement it. For me, that is where Ashley fell down massively, and I think still does. I’d prefer changes at board level again along with a specialist in youth development coming in to oversee all youth and academy structures. He skimped and saved by not employing the best people for the jobs, and it cost us, and has lead to a pretty miserable period for the fans.

On the commercial side, we are lower than we were before Ashley (based on last published accounts, gap is closing though so it could change next published), so I don’t think there is much scope for praise there, again, something a competent person in charge of that area could solve. Our commercial revenues were the same as Spurs when Ashley took over. Worlds apart now, because Levy has driven the brand and developed it.

I’ve never been fussed whether he takes money out or doesn’t, as long as the team on the pitch and the club itself is developing, he is welcome to money he has earned through him building and developing the club. I don’t have any real problem with it unless it becomes detrimental to the club and its main purpose.

As for Phillips or Townsend, I made my argument yesterday, it is a no brainer for me, Phillips every time.

  • 116 Jail for Ashley // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:35 AM

Pure speculation on the Pardew Mclaren situation, they trusted him enough to give him an eight year deal and it was the belief in their now proven beyond doubt flawed policy that dictated transfer policy rather than a managers influence, we all know Mclaren was hired as a manager who in Charnleys (or somebody’s) words “wouldn’t put obstacles in our way”
Do we really have to go over the loan thing again. It could be argued that it was his disastrous mismanagement that got us relegated and saddled with further debt so therefore he should have took the loss rather than the club.

  • 117 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:37 AM

He will go to West Brom if that is the only bid accepted I’d guess. As for his heart being in the North East, Townsend is reported to prefer a loan deal somewhere as he doesn’t want to move permanently anywhere at this time.

How would he have joined West Brom by now? They haven’t had a bid accepted? That is the same as saying he would have signed for us by now if he wanted to.

I’d also argue (and did the other day with Ancient) that being a tough negotiator and extracting the best deal for his club is exactly his job. I wouldn’t call that an awful dealer, it makes him competent for his role.

Would you be happy if Charnely turned round to Napoli and said that we wanted £25million, but as you only bid £17million then we will just accept it? That seems to be what you want Levy to do for us.

  • 118 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:42 AM

As for Pardew and McClaren, I think the stars aligned more than anything. Promise of greater TV riches, requirement for British and homegrown players to be signed, a disastrous previous couple of seasons meaning that we had to spend regardless etc. How much control he has is unclear, but all players we have signed so far (except potentially Saivet) and are currently linked with had/have been linked with moves here since before McClaren arrived.

  • 119 firebug666 // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:42 AM

    sparky55 @109

Great post mate, and I agree.

If we were 13th or 14th we maybe still would have looked at players but maybe not the ones we did go for.

As Cyprus says it’s all just speculation, but given Ashley’s track record, I don’t think we would have spent as much if we were not destined for the drop.

Maybe Ashley is changing the way the club transfers are done, and maybe he has seen the light after years of dangling just above the drop zone, but I just don’t see it.

This seems to be an act of desperation to keep the fans onside, and avoid relegation.

A leopard never changes it’s spots!

Oh and January is never a good month to do transfers at any club, but especially if you are in a relegation battle. Lets just hope we get what we pay for.

  • 120 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:48 AM

I think we would have probably gone for Shelvey regardless of our position. The value is there, he was unsettled, the sort of deal the club like, so I think we still would have gone after him. More than that, probably not.

  • 121 firebug666 // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:59 AM

Like I say it’s speculation mate, I think Shelvey would have been on the cards, and maybe a couple of other English players earmarked for the summer, The last time we had a good winter window, (another relegation battle) it was stated that summer transfer targets were brought forward.

I think this is a bit like that, mind I’m not complaining, just not getting carried away with any idea that Ashley might have changed his ways.

We are spending big now, so our summer spending may not be as expected, and these players may have to last us a few years as in the past.

Just an opinion but once us fans have been appeased and a revolt held of it’s likely that Ashley and the club will revert to the same old same old.

All we can do is wait and see.

  • 122 Jail for Ashley // Jan 20, 2016 at 7:59 AM

As for being frugal has been some kind of well thought out plan is rather fanciful as well, it has had us very nearly relegated twice now and the ill feeling it has caused can’t be priced. From the what we now know to be deliberate policy of exiting cups to that shocking decision to take the club a few steps backwards after finishing fifth. Would we have done a “Leeds” if that money spent in January was spent in the summer. We’d actually be better off as thousands wouldn’t have chucked seadon tickets and seats wouldn’t be on sale for £2.50 a game.

  • 123 Mag52 // Jan 20, 2016 at 8:00 AM

One or two bloggers wringing their hands at the prospect of McClaren having TOO BIG a choice of players, with some of the good’uns having to sit on the bench from time to time.
Surely that’s what serious clubs are all about, if we ever want to be talen seriously again.

  • 124 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 20, 2016 at 8:09 AM

Yeah, competition is good, but Townsend and Berahino will only move here if they are pretty much guaranteed a starting spot. That isn’t competition, that is just likely to upset others. I wouldn’t mind if they were definitely better, but I don’t think Townsend is and Berahinho or Perez is a close call.

The Mail is saying we turned down an approach from Spuds for Perez this window, Townsend coming playing on the left means Perez will likely be dropped. An unsettled Perez could be just what Spurs want in the summer!

  • 125 Jail for Ashley // Jan 20, 2016 at 8:09 AM

As sparky and firebug say. I’d love to be able to say hats off to good old Mikey he’s got the clubs interests at heart after all, but we are making bids for players having spent most of the season in the bottom three, we just don’t know if we’d have spent anything had we been comfortably in twelth or in Evertons position. We won’t know if things have changed for the better at the club until we spend while in a position of strength.
