Siem de Jong has tweeted an injury update, after he badly damaged his eye in training last Wednesday and could have even lost the sight in that eye.
He is still not allowed to train yet.
Still not allowed to train?, I have another hospital check Friday to see if the scratch and the blood in the eyeball are healing ok.

Comment #41The only place I can really see De Jong getting a start is as a striker in the 4231 formation if you put lots of pace around him he can hold it up well and bring players into play
But hes rarely fit so if Mitrovic misses some games he probably wont be available to step in !!
We are going to struggle to move him on with the wages he is on though we should loan him out for a few months and see if he can come back in March/April fully fit and ready to make a contribution !
Send him to Coventry !!! They should be our feeder club as long as Mowbray is manager great to watch and looks after our players !

Comment #47Ajax new what they were doing selling him for 6 million ! When you look at the duds we’ve bought over the last few years it’s frightening ! We could’ve bought a good bunch of British players and had a top team ffs. Thauvin; de Jong; Cabella; Rivi; and that’s only since 2014 Ffs !

Comment #52Yeah to think we shelled out £8m for Cabella and then £12m+ for Thauvin, when Redmond was bought for £3.5m and had already successfully completed his apprenticeship in the Championship.

Comment #54Those criticising De Jong, for being too slow obviously never saw Nobby Solano play!
Nobby did however have what it takes to play in this league and although always hugging the touch line he was never afraid of receiving / making a tackle.
De jong just seems too fragile and not robust enough in his play. The same could be said about Perez, though he compensates through the sheer energy in his game.
De Jong? Get him fit and ship him out as I simply can’t see where we can play him. Gini must have the 10 position nailed on and Perez can also play there. Simply too much competiton for the no 10 position and not enough for the number 9.

Yeah also Cresswell was only 4 million would have solved our left back position for years !! Puncheon was only 1.5 million as well !!
So many players we have missed out on for peanuts in the domestic leagues and we have spent more on foreign players who have ended up warming our bench ?
Maybe its because we never had any scouts look at them and then other teams snapped them up imagine Carr wants to have a look at players before the get the green light !
That boy Roofe from Oxford looks a future star as well we need to be getting these players early !!

Yes we are. It also restricts our ability under FFP to bring others in as we are constrained by a high wage structure. I sense that Carr will not be getting his own way going forward in quite the same way as under Hughton and Pardew. You just need to consider the non performing assets acquired on Carr’s recommendation! McClaren is clearly not prepared to coach players bought by Carr. This window has made that ups dangly clear. Both players bought and those pursued. Time for a change. It’s not Ashley out, but Carr out for me.
Watching Spurs that’s a football club very much in the ascendancy through good management and administration. A very well structured club that ManU are looking to replicate.
Someone blamed Ashley earlier for not taking full ticket allocation for the Chelsea game. It’s nothing to do with officials at the club but the ticket prices at Chelsea. £ 50 + amongst the highest in the league. Arsenal are about the same. An absolute rip riff.
Toon army fans will know that fans from the Premier League undertook a “twenty’s plenty” campaign demonstration, earlier in the season . This at a time when the average away price was £53. Twice that for Bundesliga matches.

Let’s hope so. Playing on the shoulder of the last defender with his pace will move us 10 yards higher up the pitch.

Comment #65If steeve can get close to 30 mill for Tiote and Sissoko and bring in Townsend and Bigaranho it will have been a good bit of business as the 17 mill spent so far will seem like loose change in the summer. Get a LB and CB tied down for the summer and we may just have a real team.

we don’t have a route for these youngsters to get to the first team
were so short of players outside the first 11 any player with any talent sits on the bench Armstrong should have been out onloan before this season same with Sammy bigi sataka
one of the reasons I think kemen left is there was no plan here for him pards used to big these players up but they never went anywhere
hopefully McLaren will get some of these lads out onloan when he can
coventy doing well with arma and there seems to be a lot of communication with us they got bigi back but not sure how he is doing

Comment #74Berahino is pretty much the same age as Andy Carroll was when we sold him to Liverpool
Berahino 85games 22goals WBA
Carroll 80games 31goals NUFC
All of Berahino’s goals in the PL
No toon fan was doing anything but complaining about losing Carroll 5 years ago the phrase “huge flop” wasn’t entertained.

Comment #75Seems such a hassle to do transfer with other premiership teams sometimes ! As well as expensive !
Its a bit more cut throat negotiating which is probably why we do better going to France and Holland because we offer much better deals for the player and clubs but in the premiership we are small fry in terms of what we can offer at the moment !
Feel we are getting played by Berahino and his agent who really wants Spurs or Chelsea and West Brom are trying to get as much money and will probably change the goal posts a bit like we did with Liverpool !

Comment #76The relationship between Carr and Mondial is so fishy I can smell it from here. And the person or persons doing the scouting domestically must be spending more time in the boozer than watching matches. Have a look at the young players we’ve signed from domestic leagues over the last few years. None of them worth a pinch.

That sounds like a good deal. I really like De Jong but he is currently behind Perez and Wijnaldum in that number 10 position. I would love to keep him but it’s not fair on him. He isn’t an impact bench player he has to start.
And if we bring in a left sided attacking mid/winger then I fear Perez will drop to the bench too further limiting his chances.
De Jong for Willems would be very good business.
