There are reports that Newcastle are interested in signing 18-year-old Harry Chapman of Middlebrough – and the Hartlepool forward was a team mate of Newcastle’s Adam Armstrong in the England U18 side.
The Sun are reporting that Newcastle are very keen on signing the Middlebrough youngster this month and he’s been in excellent form this season for the Middlebrough Reserve (U21) side.
Middlesbrough 18 year-old winger Harry Chapman
His contract still has 18 months to run and it’s not unusual for Newcastle to try to sign some of the best young players in England.
Middlebrough have an excellent Youth Academy and they have been a lot more successful than Newcastle in bringing though young players.
But they are not daft either and we’d be very surprised if they would want to sell Harry to neighbors Newcastle United, especially when they are likely to become a Premier League club again next season.

Middlesbrough are currently top of the Championship on 55 points and they are 6 points clear of third placed Derby County and have a game in hand.
This is what Middlesbrough’s U21 manager Paul Jenkins said about Harry a couple of months ago:
“Harry is one of many players who has made good progress both in possession of the ball, and more importantly for me, his work rate without the ball.”
“He can set the world alight with his individual talent, but as a coach, I’m even more delighted with his understanding and his contribution to the team.”
“He can be as good as he wants to be, like many of our young players. But he needs to keep his head down, work hard and understand that he’s part of a team.”
“His individual talent will always catch people’s eye, that’s for sure, but he needs to keep going.”
It would be very surprising if manager Aitor Karanka would want to lose Harry Chapman before next season.
